I just read James Fugate’s column and I am furious! So, the BCS board policy is that the school facilities cannot be used for personal or commercial use.
Okay, so are they going to continue to let the AAU or BYF teams use the facilities? You might say that’s different but it’s not really. I have to pay admission to those games and they sell separate concessions from the school so they (AAU, BYF, or whatever organization) are making money while using the school’s facilities. Would that not fall under commercial use?
Also, they let have in the past let people use the facilities for family member’s funerals…You might think it is heartless of me to bring that up and I hate to, but it would fall under personal use. Also, I’ve been to several wedding and baby showers held in libraries or cafeterias at the schools. That is definitely personal use!
Is Farm Bureau still using a school’s cafeteria for the annual meeting? Another hmmmm…..
Zumba classes….are those free? Or do people have to pay a zumba teacher for his/her time? Wouldn’t he/she be making money using the school’s facilities??? commercial use??
(FYI, I'm all for these things happening! Just pointing out that they violate policy but it wasn't enforced!)
I’m sure there are many other examples where this policy has not been enforced (and not just in the past years -it has been happening this year)
Since it is BCS board policy, then they need to enforce it fully or wait…..a better idea --- change it --- to let these boys play, and to be able to legally make other decisions for other groups to be able to use the facilities with board approval…. The money they would make off admission/concessions just from the 22ft Academy would be enough to keep Rousseau afloat and more. The high school could get textbooks and computers. LBJ cold get an art or music teacher back! But instead of doing something that involves common sense, they decide to raise their tuition from 1500 to over 5000 for each player after they’ve been here for going on a month! That’s crazy! It's obvious they want them out but why? They weren't in this big of a hurry to get rid of a criminal boss or a sex offender! So, what's their problem with these boys?? The community is all for this positive experience!!
Are they jealous of these boys? Are they afraid it would take attention from their boys on the the bobcat team? I got news for them; the boys team is not going to do any worse just by this prep academy being there….they actually might learn a few (many) things! It has already been said they will work around the boys use of the coliseum and it wouldn’t interfere at all with their practice/games…so really BCS Board, WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? DO SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR THIS SCHOOL SYSTEM!!!
Thank you to Oakdale!!!!!!!!!!

It's funny he's all up set about this and when we had a teacher arrested for drugs no picture very little press I could care less if they ever let them play ball we don't even support the bobcats and were worried about these people

BYF etc are non-profits. Maybe he is out to make a little off of this too. Check and see who is involved in the promotion of this team.

I say let them play in the Coliseum. It is a beautiful facility and from what I've heard all the gate and concessions would be going directly in to the Breathitt School System. What's to lose? It would bring some, much needed, positive publicity to our county. I'm talking about college coaches from all over the country coming to our small town to watch basketball in our gorgeous gymnasium. Fans, statewide, eating at our restaurants and staying at out hotels and buying our gasoline. I fail to see the downside to letting them use our facilities. If they are paying TUITION to go to a PUBLIC SCHOOL, would that not make them students of the Breathitt County School system. If this was a decision that was made by the state, perhaps the state is as crooked as our school system ever was. Progress, growth and opportunity are not bad things. Our county desperately needs a little.

Don't throw all parents under the bus.... Whose the only parent on the board that has a son that plays basketball? This woman is capable of doing anything. She tries to act all goody goody but she's not. she does her dirty work behind closed doors. She's a very sneaky underhanded woman. The only reason that people kiss up to her is cause her husband is a doctor. No one would put up with this backstabbing sour puss woman if he wasn't a doctor. What gets me is people know how she is but cater to her and most of them that kiss up she wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. So keep supporting her flower shop, going to her husband as a doctor, and electing her to office. You will find out about her sooner or later. She's only out for her kids she doesn't care about anyone else's.

I would like to know the same thing. If this is such a great organization for us to have, why weren't they smart enough to check out the situation before they came. Who are the Breathitt officials that have promised them low tuition, unlimited use of the building for practice, and for games. Do they pay city tax for being employed in city limits or county and city property taxes? Who are the big community leaders that James David Fugate keeps saying are supporting these, who are the business leaders. Sounds like the business people will be the only ones that benefit. All these strong supporters should stand him and show themselves. Why are they hiding?? Why can't anyone find out who they are and how this will benefit the children of Breathitt Co. They should be spending their time and money to help the schools that are in trouble financially for the benefit of our local children. Why don't they support the local high school teams? Nothing was in the paper about them. I say stop buying the paper and the trash that James David Fugate is printing. At least get the facts right before you print!

I myself would like to know all the facts behind this organization of all the place they could have went to come here James Fugate uses his rag to bash people he doesn't like or crosses him all this from a Christian man . We've all heard how change is needed well its here but it seems it not liked if it goes against of all things a basketball team that has not one member from our county . I don't know who you are but you are right if these prominent people would help outsiders why not help the children of Breathitt County .what they don't understand is when these people leave they will laugh at us and talk of the poor people of Breathitt county James Fugate is no more a reporter of need but a tabloid paper for his on agenda most of it is copyed from other papers . He knows lots of people believe what they read I wouldn't believe nothing he said but he really thinks he something . If you want to know something funny check around and see who gave his wife the job she's got at the board and tell me how high and mighty he is hypercrite that would be a word that fits him

It's hilarious to see you idiots accusing James David of the same stuff you accuse Bobby of -- that is, using the paper for a personal vendetta.

I thought James David's paper was owned by Manchester now.

Well since dumbass people get on here wanting to know about how the team got here if you know how to read you would have read it in the paperS.. They would like to play in our wonderful gym,,, but our stupid board members won't let them. They say it's because of a rule that they themselves can change, but won't because she thinks it's gonna take the spot light off her son. What Dumbass don't know is that there gonna bring money and scouts and really great things to our school system. Those boys should get to use the gym they are enrolled in our school system. They let other activities go in there!!! And they should sue the system for lying to them.. And why the hell should they have to pay tuition now that they are students.. Oh wait we all have free lunch but yet i got a letter from the school saying my child owed them lunch money and they have never had to pay, well when i call them gonna tell them to take me to court cause i'm not paying them shit!!! And yeah when they leave and we lose an awesome opportunity to raise money for our school and put us in the spot light(because we diffidently need it.. SO GOOD JOB TO OUR DUMBASS BREATHITT CO BOARD OF EDUCATION!!!!
