You are going to have difficulty finding a small private school here that offers "quality" education. Both county and city school systems are fighting to survive. If you want a small school setting, you might consider Rousseau but they are in danger of closing. Highland Turner is small too. LBJ is a good school with a fine principal but is a very large school which some find intimidating. Marie Roberts Caney is considered a good school and smaller than LBJ.

If your children are older middle school or high school and are not "special" you might consider Oakdale. It is a methodist school that is more like a prep school. There is also a good elementary school at Bethany. Bethany Mission Christian School. Small, reasonably priced and will work with you if you can't afford it. I know one lady that works as a teacher there in exchange for tution for her two kids.
Riverside is ok too, but I don't recommend Mount Caramel. They shelter thier children to much. Plus they are extremely strict about what the kids wear, and the last I heard couldn't even socialize with one another. That the boys set on one side of the classroom and the girls on the other. Same with sidewalks around the campus.LOL I think it is almost like a cult to be honest from what I have seen and heard from former students.
You could always home school your child. There isn't any real laws regarding home schooling in kentucky. Just have to keep really good attendance and graded papers to prove your child is on level if they ever transfere to a public school.

Thank you all. I called around today and checked at schools. I did call Mt. Carmel and talked to the Principal. He said that they've lightened up alot. Boys & girls can not talk to each other and walk together but cannot be alone, which I completely understand. I couldn't get through to Oakdale, I will try there in the morning.

But they still don't associate with the public. They shelter thier children way to much. I wouldn't let my child go there.
Bethany has made great strides toward joining the 21 century, The girls no longer have to wear dresses that reach half way to thier ankles or have sleeves half way to thier elbows. They can wear jewerly as well now. Plus they do participate with the public.
As far as the qualifications of the teachers I don't know. I don't think many of them actually have a teaching degree. Same with those at other private schools, especially Mount Caramel and Riverside.

Mount Carmel does associate with the public. Girls are no longer required to wear dresses. The rules are bottoms must come to the knee and shirts are required to have a sleeve. Not elbow length. The school takes weekly trips into Jackson for the students. I've seen them out many times in the community.

I attended both schools (Bethany and Mt Carmel) along with my sisters. All of us finished college. One has a doctorate, one grad school, and the other a BS. We all turned out just fine. A little discipline and structure never hurt anyone.

I know Bethany has a website. I don't know about Mount Caramel or Riverside. I think Oakdale does. The only reason you turned out as good as you did is because your parents had sense to get you out in public. Otherwise I bet you would be just like a lot of other private school children I came across when I attended college.
As far as the dress code for mount caramel, I don't believe it. The last time I checked they were still wearing those dresses. I saw some of them in Walmarts not to long ago wearing the same dress code as they did ten fifteen years ago. How do I know they were from mount caramel, I over heard them talking about going back to school at mount caramel. You never see in the local papers that they participated in any educational events open to the public such as science fairs, academic teams etc...

Mount Carmel does have a website. There isn't anything on the website about the dress code but there is about the conduct and it stresses no real contact with the opposite sex....They are associated with the Kentucky Mountain Bible College and thier website talks about how strict the dress code is.
Oakdale has a website and Bethany does too.

Mt Carmel still has the dresses dress code. Along with polo shirts and sweaters. No tee shirts nor hoodies or jackets. Bethany can wear pants, Capri pants in the summer. No shorts. They have great teachers at Bethany as well as management.

I have an appointment next week to tour the Oakdale campus & the Mt. Carmel campus. I did see from pictures on the website that the girls wear polos.
