I'll start the ball rolling on this one. I choose Whole Foods, with Wild Oats coming in at second, because of their vast array of organic products. The prospect of consuming genetically engineered food is very dicey, sticking with "certified organic" eliminates the possibility of that danger.

I prefer Whole Foods out on Metcalf, but it's too far away, so I shop at Price Chopper up by the mall.

I have been doing business with Nature's Pantry in Independence, MO. A little light on produce but overall a good selection of organic products. I find it hard to find better prices than they have on supplements and bulk organic foods. I recently bought a yearly membership there for $15.00 which saves you 5% off their prices.
Highly recommended! |

I'll have to try out Nature's Pantry. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
I'm heading for Austin tomorrow. The HEB down there also owns a whole foods grocery store called Central Market. Fresh everything and beautiful flowers. Best candles and aroma therapy goodies I've ever smelled. Central Market prints this interesting little saying on their recycled brown grocery bags: “I am a brown paper bag. More than likely, I’ll end up under your kitchen sink with a few of my friends. I might get cut up and wrapped around an old text book, or just stuck under something messy. It would be nice if someone made me into a kite. I’d like to be a kite. But whatever happens, I will never forget the day I carried groceries home for you from the Central Market.” I had forgotten the years of Mom wrapping our school books in cut up brown grocery bags. You can get plastic bags at the Central Market, but I always ask for paper, just so I can reread the kite story. |

Price Chopper up at North Oak and Barry Road plays oldies music. You can find me singing along while I'm loading up the grocery cart.
Usually I call it a "bucket" and not a cart. |

I love the prices at Save-A-Lot, never was much of a "brand name" kind of guy.

Wow, here's another "Waste of Time" comment. How come you invest time reading forums if everything is a waste of time? I think e-mail is wonderful. Have a happy day! :o) |

Lol...I clicked on Fred's posts, and he has ten out of fourteen posts where he says, "is just a waste of time." Lol...so then I got to thinking about it and after a while I realized that I just wasted five minutes of my life that I will never get back checking out his posts. I'm thinking it was just a waste of...nevermind.

Roy, I perceive that Mssr. Flynn-Stone is an irritable sort. I myself have had days when everything seems disturbing at best, but usually wait until I have my thoughts collected well enough before I express my inner emotions publicly. So Fred (if I may address you by first name), please know, that at least from myself, you have friends here in the village forum and I would welcome having an "off forum" discourse with you via email to address your concerns, just advise us. |

Golly, you are so right. I did the same thing. You crack me up. Whenever I get grumpy, I go for ice cream. Big Burger has an unbeatable chocolate & vanilla twist in an old fashion ice cream cone. A couple of months ago, they had the words, "Got Ice Cream" on their signage. It made me smile and I whipped in for a twist. Good Marketing! |

Fred: I'll take Village Idiot's offer one step farther. Just let me know if you'd like a BB Twist and I'll pre-pay for you to have a yummy ice cream at Big Burger. My treat!

Hooray, they are putting in a new Save-A-Lot in my area (Meth Capitol of The Region, LOL!) at Truman Rd. and Crysler. They have the best prices on Ice Cream Sundae Cones and reading glasses! |

Me, too. But I eat milk products anyway, then run for the bathroom about 20 minutes later. The nice thing is, we'll never need laxative when we get older. Give me a malt and I'm good to go.(no pun intended) |

What became of Mike down at the Save-A-Lot? He was always there working very hard and kept a good disposition.
Just wondering. |
|
I used to not shop at Save-A-Lot because it didn't carry many diabetic type items, but have noticed lately that they are now carrying more sugar free items. I started shopping there again and I do save at least $40.00 over what I was spending elsewhere. I get beef on the hoof, though, which helps on grocery expenses alot.
