I love all Wild Animals; however my favorite,
which I forgot to list is the Wildcat. I have only seen one around here, when I was about 54 years old. I have heard them calling in the woods on the East edge of Olney though. + + My alma-mater is Noble High ... I think that is some of my attachment to the Wildcat ( Bobcat ). |

Birds. But not Black Birds.

My favorite is the Illinois Red Eared Box Turtle.
I just love those little things. When I see them crossing a road or highway, I stop put my flashers on (stop traffic if necessary); and place them at least 15 feet off the road in the direction they were headed. + I really don't know of many animals I don't like except maybe the GroundHog. They are mean, vicious and damaging critters. I also loved it when Granny would make vittles out of them. |

My favorit is the Red Fox ... We have a Mother
and 3 kits in our barn outside of Clay City. |

1 Bobcats are nice but not as majestic. We do indeed have larger cats around here. South of Flora (between Flora and Rinard) are several people who've seen the large cats. |

1 That is not fair to any animal or human. That poor Fox is Rabid. No animal or human or bird or fish or whatever can be held accountable for what happens when they are deathly sick. That video is Terrible and Gross. At least they do warn us before hand. |

1 A little more than 30 years ago when I had my place further to the east of where I live now, i had chickens. A big owl was killing them in broad daylight, so I shot it. When we stretched that thing out the wingspan was over six feet. you wouldn't have believed the talons on that thing. It wasn't a barn owl exactly, I didn't know what kind it was. but it was a monster. You'd have a fierce pet, that's for sure. Train it to attack anyone messing with you, this owl I shot was picking up big chickens and carrying them off to the treeline like they were mice. |

Mike,
That sounds neat, actually I have seen some Horned Owls in my younger years that were probably close to that height with a wingspan over 9 or 10 ft. One of my favor things in the Harry Potter movie is the fact that they have all those beautiful owls. P.S. I will be 89 this month ... shhhhh that is only for your eyes ... I have developed a deep respect for you on here. You have ethics and morales. |

I have a new favorite since I saw one last night
in the Little Wabash Bottoms ... Puma, Panther or Cougar ( Mountain Line ); they are called all of the proceeding. And boy oh boy was it ever a magnificent site to behold. I will never disclose the exact location because I don't want a bunch of idiots trying to track it down. She looked like she might have milk in her teets. |

Jeremy...a panther and a cougar are not the same.
I saw a panther in the river bottoms back in '81 or '82. Haven't seen a cougar around though, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn they are. |
|||
|
hm.
I too saw one in the river bottoms to the south of my old farm in 1981. it was black. My wife and kids laughed at me but i know what i saw. I've since been told that a black one is a panther and isn't even really a panther, but is a leapord (sp??) that might of come up here back in the 70s from down around TExas, migrated up along the rivers, etc. I used to hear them too back then. horrible sound. |

The Wildlife USDA Specialist that covers this
area said that a Panther is a Cougar by another name ... so argue with him, not me. I looked on eNature and it confirms what he stated. |
