I was a inmate at Rodgers State Prison for 4yrs. And witnessed countless beatings of inmates, many by the same officers that have been suspended for abuse of inmates.True enough every inmate there has committed a crime to be placed in prison,But we are still human and do have rights. The officer who reported the abuse gets nothing but the highest respect from me, because it took guts and heart to stand up to the system he works for. There are some officers who realize you are still human ,but made a terrible mistake. FAMILIES OF INMATES TAKE ACTION!

Yall don't worry about these inmates at Rogers because they are just using these allegations of abuse to use their families. Don't forget they are criminals and when they come to prisons they must become part of the environment to survive. These Officers are not beating inmates because they love doing it. They use enought force to contain the situation. If these inmates would "lay down" and do there time without being disruptive, you would even hear about "alleged abuse". When an officer gets his throat cut,get hot oil thrown in his/her face, or gets urine/feces thrown on them, What about that? These are bad boys... don't forget about the mental states of your family members. Think about the times they would drink, curse, fight, and cause all kinds troube. When you see in prison all clean, neat, and sober, it's easy to forget who they were because they look different. These are the same fiends,killers,sex-offenders, and crack head they were on the streets. They are putting on a front to get support for the people they love. Let them do their time. We provide everything they need. None of us signed up to beat on convicts. When you write to them, tell them to "lay down" and do the time. Send about $20 a month for some honey buns and sodas. I wish we could let you see how your inmates/convicts really act. When I use to get in trouble in grade school, for some reason I could never remember what I did when it came to tell my side of the story. Tell them that you love them and respect the people that are here to protect them.

I feel nothing for you people. My brother was murdered and his killer is in there. I am actually seeking out posts to read how the inmates are treated so I know that the few years that he got will be hell for him.

You are all victims because you have someone in there? No we are the victims and their families. Your loved one will walk out of there someday. Will my brother walk anywhere ever again? No.

Also I can see by your intelligence, spelling and use of the English language that you are families of the inmates. Try using a dictionary or ask someone to help you write, it is a disgrace that you perpetuate the exact behavior that one would expect.

Oh and I love the one who's husband is a drug dealer and trying to just make a living for his family? Are you kidding? He sells drugs to addicted people. You don't think that's bad. Sure they come looking for it but they could be children, they could be very sick people that are self medicating. He is contributing to their dependency. He is taking advantage of people that don't know any better. If I am to believe that he is not an abuser himself.

My ex husband is in that prison for aggravated stalking. I do not think that the guards should be abusing the inmates, but I do not think the inmates should have the same rights as we do. My ex will never know how he hurt and effected my child and my own life! He physically and mentally abused me when were married. And even after we were divorced he still was harming me. You have to put a stop to it. I do not feel bad for any of thoses inmates. What about the vicitims and their families?

well david, you make a good point, the ones that killed, beat stole and abused do deserve to be Ppunished and sent to prison, BUT arent the GUARDS doing the same thing? It is not their JOB to punish anybody-When I die THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON THAT CAN JUDGE ME AND PUNISH ME AND ITS NOT A GUARD NAME JOE!!!!!
Have you ever had anyone you loved or cared about incarcerated? I agree that if you do the crime then you should do the time, however, Not all inmates are bad People. All of those inmates are somebody's- Mother, father, brother, sister,or child, and we love them NO MATTER what they have done!! We might not like the THINGS they have done but we still love them. I believe that the killers and rapist should be seperated from the general population. But the Drug dealers and users, the bad check writers? why should they be beat?

These drug dealers are killing people everyday Whether it be cocaine heroin or just prescription pills. One of my best friends nearly overdosed on some drugs she got and for some strange reason when the police were told they did nothing to the dealers. I am glad to hear about drug dealers in prison being beaten. I am even more glad to hear about child molesters being beaten and wife beaters being beaten. One thing that lets me be this way is I have two people in my family in prison and by God they belong there.

My nephew is in Reidsville mental ward. He shot a guy and the guy is fine thank goodness. But the courts gave him 20 do 10. Instead of trying to get him mental help they keep him drugged up in a cell by his self for 23 hours a day. There is abuse there. If i say too much now and they figure out who he is then the guards will punish him for telling the family. He needs to be in a mental hospital.I think he should be punished but 10 years in one room alone is not a fix. He gets out in a few years and I don't know how his mind is. Can he live with other people now? He has no tv or radio.I would be crazy.

IM TIRED OF WAITING FOR THE SYSTEM TO DO SOMETHING WHEN ALL THE STAFF THERE HAS TO DO IS DO THEIR JOB. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM. WHY CANT INMATES GET THE TREATMENT THAT OUR TAX DOLLARS ARE PAYING FOR?
To answer your question. There are so many inmates who abuse the system and play games pretending to be ill that it overloads the system. Those who are really in need of attention either can't get the medical attention which is needed or are slow to get it.
Until you can think of a way to solve that problem I am sure the prison system will review your plan.
If you really look at the tax dollars going to the prison system to "run" a prison, you'll find the overall amount of money required to run a prison properly and keep staff doesn't coinside with the tax dollars which are contributed.
That information is under https://www.correctionsone.com
You'll see the tax dollars pay for their three meals they have each day,(not including the diet snacks some of them get), the tv's they have in each dorms and in some units (each cell), the cable for the tv's the maintenance of all their toilets they rip out and throw through the back windows, the money to replace the toilet and the window, the pipes they rip off the walls, the doors they kick down, the fires they start, the electric bills, the water bills, and the payment of the staff to maintain and supervise.
That's just part of it.

Would you agree to your taxes being raised so that we can provide better medical care and upgrade facilities?

It really saddens me to read all the negative things that you all post on this web site. Let me start by saying I am truely sorry that any of you have family or friends in the Prison System, for I to have a brother in Rogers, and not for once will I say he does not deserve to be where he is afterall we ALL have to abid by the law or suffer. However, it seems to me if all the things you are saying are true some of you should get Lawyers to help your loved one, and then sit down and ask yourself if your loved one could in anyway cause himself any of the grief that you are reporting. Once again I am sorry for the pain you go through for I face it myself, but PLEASE wise up and realize NO ONE goes to Prison because they are a model citizen.

I am horrified at your total lack of human qualities. Compassion, Sympathy, Love! I have not heard someone so closed-minded speak since the days of Bull O'Connor and the Freedom Riders.
You must live in the middle of the sticks with no TV. Countless men and women are in prison on false accusations, wrongful convictions, or have received excessive time for minor charges (to be made an example of). How many times have we heard the DA made a mistake and sentenced the wrong person to death row? Do these people also need to suck it up and accept that someone did the crime and they must do the crime? You sound outright heartless. And last I check the Holy Bible (not that you sound like a believer or anything near it) tells us that it is not our place to judge. I think the correct phrasing is Judge lest not ye be judged. When judgement day comes, how would you feel if you were judged and damned by one mistake with no room for forgiveness? Hopefully, you dare not be hypocritical enough to ask for forgiveness in your prayers. May God be with you.

Are you not guilty of the same insensitivity? The people they "abrused" and "stoled" from did have rights. That's why they were tried and convicted. That is why they serve the time. Prison is no longer in place to punish it is supposed to rehabilitate. That way when rapist, murderers, and theives return to society they are no longer rapist, murderers, and theives. If we cage them and treat them like animals for x years then their behavior or misbehavior upon release is directly proportional. Just as with any of God's creatures. When you cage a dog and beat him and starve him and subject him to abuse on a daily basis, when you release him instinct drives him to lash out. Then what purpose did your punishment serve except to make your situation worse than before. The Lord tells to love thy neighbor, feed him when he's hungry, clothe him when he's naked, shelter him when he has no home. In the case of these inmates, love them. Nurture them, Guide them onto a better path. You may be suprised by the outcome.

I have responded to several of the horrific statements made on this site. I may better serve my purpose if I speak in general terms. Each of us (minus a few) have done things in our past for which we should have been punished. It is the curse of human will. We are told what is required of us but the ability to choice and lure of wrong often leads astray. Here in the South, most of us hold on to one form of religion or another. They all teach forgiveness. I see none in many of these posts. I agree. If a crime is committed there should be consequences. But who are we to say that someone is not human enough to be treated as the human God created them to be? Which of us was there to see that person pain or anguish or person misery that drove them to there crime? Who here is without sin? I am 27 years old and have never seen the inside of a prison cell. I thank Jesus that I was blessed with the opportunities that make it possible for me everyday. I don't have to steal to eat. I am consumed by evil or overwhelmed with hate. So I can't fathom murder. I have been victimized by rape twice. Molested as a child. And would never say someone deserves to be brutalized on a daily basis. I prayed. Something so many fail to do. The carried me through countless trials and tribulations. It is my ability to forgive that affords me forgiveness when I ask. I have seen a murderer and a theif turn a new leaf because someone found it in themselves to forgive and love. It is the eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth that has left so many on both sides of the fence wallowing in misery. I say Rebuke Satan. Rebuke his ideas. Let's love our brethren and figure what brought them to such a dark place in life. And maybe if you pray for them and show them that consideration, someone may forgive you come judgement.

Revision: I am not consumed by hate or misery.

Clarification: God is the only salvation. The only path to Redemption. Once you have lost your ability to forgive, how dare you ask for the same?

I am sorry that someone that you loved was killed, that is horrific and the person does needs to be in prison or recieving a severe punishment. Let the truth be told though, there are several people in this world who are educated and are devoted to someone in the prison system. You can not say that all people are of a lower class and are uneducated because someone they loved or loves made a mistake. You referenced drug dealers and the one taht was supporting his family by selling the drugs,I will never understand how someone can see selling drugs as being O.K and at the same time I cannot see how someone can rationalize and not understand that the one buying the drugs is just as wrong and liable. We all have a choice!!!I believe 100 million percent that evil individuals who are guilty need to be punished, but what about the few who are lied against and put in a place like Rogers when they did not commit the crime. I have a masters in education and my feelings changed completely about the GDOC as soon as I saw an innocent man go to jail and two years of his life get wasted. Do me a favor, deal with your anger and try not to be so quick to jude others. There is noone on this earth who is worthy of judging, noone is perfect.
