I am doing some research on these two towns.Which is better to raise a family in, considering the children are young and involved with athletics?

You will find that Clarksville is the small town that you are looking for. Activities, people, lack of crime. It is a great place.

Keven,
My husband, daughter (4yrs) and myself relocated to Clarksville in Jan 06 from Baltimore MD. My parents and sister retired here several years ago and after visiting the first time after our daughters arrival we knew this was a place to be. SMALL TOWN USA!
There is a soccer program, baseball program, football program here. From what I read in the local paper high school football is pretty big here as well as band.
The baseball league has a stadium next to the community center(behind the VFD).
It is ironic that since we moved here more friends and family visit us 5 hrs away than they did in Baltimore.
Early spring at Staunton River Boat Park they host a kids fishing day with fishing; food; games and every child receives a very nice prize.
Occoneechee State Park as an American Indian festival every year with pow wows and programs for the children.
It seems during the nice months of April through Oct there are numerous festivals around the area.
The Virginia Raceway is in South Boston and my husband and I love going there.
Prior to our move here we subscribed to the local newspapers (The News Progress and The Mecklenburg Sun)to get a feel of the area. It was a great help in deciding our fate. They will mail out of state.
Every time I greatly miss the malls and conveniences I stroll down Main St and smile. Peacefulness and friendliness is much better than hustling in a mall spending money. Besides I've become an excellent on line shopper. Some of us wives get together and drive to Raleigh or Durham for shopping on occassion.
I found your post by accident... Congressman Goode is going to be here tonight for a special meeting with town officials and I was doing a search for possible businesses relocating here and found you.
We relocated our business here; my husband is a master carpenter and the business name is Gracer Construction, Inc. Amongst other work, he is completing his 2nd addition here and getting ready to start on 2 more. He is a 6th generation carpenter and has excellent references both here and Baltimore. We have 2 lots we are going to build houses on in the near future also.
If you or your wife have any questions about the area, feel free to e-mail me...gracer6@verizon.net.
Being a recent transplantee myself, I would be more than happy to answer any questions.
Good Luck in your future move and hope to meet you in Clarksville.

Hi Mary
I've just read your comments about relocating to Clarksville and it makes me want to relocate NOW. I'm in the very early stages of emigrating and with the visa I am applying for I need to operate a business. Can you tell me what kind of thing is desperately needed in Clarksville? I am very child orientated and would love to provide a soft ball park for little ones or something for the teenagers. When I first decided I wanted to emigrate, I really wanted to open a campground and have spent months researching different areas, but don't know if that would spoil the area with extra traffic. Please could you give this some thought and let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. I loved your comments and know its the right place for my son to grow up. Thankyou Mary
