This is what happens to Nashville when Police Chief "Serpass", a total outsider to Nashville, is more worried about honest citizens than what criminals are doing. He has been like a big spoiled brat child since he arrived in Nashville. He was not able to control his Police Dept. in New Orleans much less his kid. Now he has pushed our council to ban guns in parks. The next thing he will want is for everyone to hang all guns on the fence post before you entire the city.
Wake up Nashville, your city council and police chief are out of control.

I hope that metro and other cities that chose not to allow permit holders to carry in parks knows that the next victims blood is on their hands

What are you proposing that allowing you to carry a gun in a park would do? Use it to shoot and kill someone? That would mean someone's blood being shed, right? What's so good about that? A life is a life. People are always going to do bad things - no need in adding another gun to the equation.

I agree. These city councils and county commissioners that opted out have just declared their parks criminal-friendly zones.

By banning guns from anywhere, you're only assuring the only ones that have guns will be the criminals. LEGAL HCP holders will simply stay away.

How could one person be so nieve?

If there's blood shed in a Metro park, it'll be a victim's blood, the victim of some criminal that couldn't care less about the "No Guns" sign hanging at the entrance.

Wake up and get a clue!!! This is about not allowing law-abiding, LEGAL HCP holders to carry their weapons in a park.

Before you respond, for the love of God, research what it takes for a Tennessee resident to get a handgun carry permit. Do that then come back with a more educated comment.

Well, hello, Moma. And, no, it doesn't have to be MY way. I just think that if a person wants to have a battle of WITS they should have some ammo. 4truth doesn't have the ammo on this subject.

It's not the HCP holders that are causing the problems but yet we're made out as the bad guys. All we (HCP holders) want to do is protect ourselves and our families. We DO NOT think we make a place safer just because we're in a particular place while armed. We DO NOT WANT to shoot someone as 4truth implied.

HCP holders are not the problem. The criminals are the problem.

Good point! I wonder how many park victims were HCP holders in the first place and left their weapon at home just because they couldn't bring it in the park. The new law is not going to make much difference one way or the other.

Ms. KateB (being respectful), I agree, it may not make much difference one way or the other. But, if someone were to try to hurt you or your family, wouldn't you like the option to stop it immediately?

YES, ABSOLUTELY! I agree with you there 100% and I support HGP holders of having the option to carry. Its the feeling of safety for the person and their family as well as the right for the HGP holder to make the choice for themselves and not by the govt.

I'm not a HGP holder and I don't currently intend to be one but I'm not against others having the choice. Personally, I prefer to stay my hm-hm out of places where I am alone and likely to be a victim. Course now adays, its more likely to be by home invasion than a mugging (or worse) in a park.

You're right about the home invasion thing and I tend to steer clear of bad places and situations. I may carry a gun but I would prefer to never have to use it.

I will still carry in a park that is posted as a no carry zone. I will protect my family and my self at all times. The police are a reaction force, they very rarely stop a crime before it happens.

My (kind of hazy) understanding of castle law tells me you'd be protected in that situation. Seems like not too many years ago there was a convicted felon in Memphis that defended himself from a carjacker, even though he wasn't supposed to be carrying. Completely justified. Of course, if they catch you it can be a pain in the ass... Although I think most cops would be sensible enough just to look at your carry permit and "remind" you. Maybe I put too much faith in their ability to think for themselves, but I'm an optimist that way.

But like you say, police don't really exist to prevent crime. That's been pretty well established by the courts of this country, at least. Despite their boast and bluster, they can't really do much to prevent crime. Even trying to is a dangerous path to walk down, because it usually ends up with unconstitutional restrictions on law abiding folks.

I'd be a lot happier if TN would wake up and go with free and unrestricted open carry for all law-abiding citizens. At least it would be a deterrent to some of the more opportunistic thugs.

Sorry man, no common sense allowed here. This place is a breeding ground for mouth breathing gun freaks who don't "do" common sense. Logical debate is also a waste of time. Remember, these people think life is a movie and they're all dirty harry "protecting" all of us to stupid or weak to protect ourselves.

The back slapping between the gumby heads will continue- as evidenced by your posts rating.

I personally agree with the cops and your post. THANK GOD common sense is prevailing and the gun gonzos minority opinion is held in the reverence it deserves.

I know two people who couldn't pass the insurance salesman "exam"- despite taking it over and over again, who are proud "Law abiding Handgun Carry permit holders". It takes a pulse and enough genetic material to hold a pen or pencil.

Astute observation! it is easy to see the trending isn't it? And these are exactly the people who should be packing heat in social situations- where small minds easily overcome is casual conversation might feel threatened or pushed into some sort of metaphorical corner where the gun has to come out because they aren't going to listen to anymore of "yer smart mouth"

HA!

not ONE person has point blank blamed HCP holders for all of this.. ALL of us know it's the criminals that we need to watch out for.. It's just not necessary to bring a gun in parks/bars/restaurants/etc.. let's say if ONE HCP holder is NOT in his right frame of mind and MAYBE is drinking(we know they arent supposed to) or whatever- Here comes World World 3.. But, I also know that a criminal will also have their gun too..
SOOOO- all I am TRYING to say is- WHY "allow" MORE guns in?.. Hope this makes sense?..It's hard to communicate via email-
