After contacting the city mayor's office and the county mayor's office, I received conflicting reports. The city mayor's office informed me the curfew applied only to Riverside Drive,Kraft Steet, downtown, etc.--other areas which are flooded. The county mayor's office informed me that the city was inside the county so all of Clarksville-Montgomery County was affected. I never knew the city was subjected to the county. If it is consolidated, why do we have separate governmental offices?(More info should be released on this topic.) Hopefully, this curfew will be clarified on the evening news. Does any official expect that news released at 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. will reach all citizens. Obviously, Clarksville-Montgomery County is not prepared for emergencies. I tried calling the city and county police. Most rings were answered by an automated recording. When I finally reached one human voice, I was told to contact the mayors' offices. If the police have no information, who is planning to enforce the curfew? If a curfew is mandated tonight, does this close the Governor's Square Shopping Center and all the restaurants on and near Wilma Rudolph Blvd.? Does this curfew close all gas stations and all grocery and convenience stores? Can the businesses afford to lose the money if their restaurants are closed by the county? Will the citizens who may have been misplaced by the flood have no place to get food after 8:00 p.m. Obviously, a lot of thought should be put into these decision-making processes.

The Mayor, Mr. Piper, said on the radio this morning that the city curfew is different than the county and that if you are in the city limit that is the one being enforced. He did acknowledge that the county curfew is stricter and that he did not plan to enforce that inside the city. He expressed that the people of Clarksville had enough sense to do the right things. The city curfew is mainly emplaced to protect property that had to be abandoned due to the flood.
