I used to think just like that, just like you. Drop your politically correct boilerplate for a while and consider: It's not poverty that causes crime.
It's crime that causes poverty. It screws up your resume` so you can't get a job. It takes you out of the workforce while you're in jail. It doesn't help your credit score. You keep paying fine after fine, restitution, lawyer fees (sometimes).
Does it not occur to you how silly your argument is? Do you honestly believe that there are black men prowling the streets saying, "I be poor so I be going to go rape me a white chick"?
I never said poverty causes crime; I said the more direct correlation with criminal activity is poverty rather than skin color.

I actually agree crime causes poverty, as does a lack of self respect, no movitivation, government dependency, etc. It's a self-defeating cycle which feeds on itself.

It has nothing to do with skin color. I see homes of whites & blacks & hispanics etc with unmown unkempt yards & trash all over the place. Their excuse is they're slobs because they're poor. My reply is always you're poor because you're a slob.

But again, it has nothing to do with skin color.

The ones who can leave, are.
If you knew what you were actually talking about you'd come down here & visit a Walmart & you'd notice every 4th or 5th black man is DATING or MARRIED TO a poor white trash woman, usually who's overweight.
That or you see a white mother who looks "white trash" who has a child who's obviously half-black with the kink in the hair & the black features.
The black father? Nowhere to be found. I'm not making that up, you can come visit a dollar store, grocery store, 1 of the malls, Walmart, etc -- & you will see I'm telling you the truth dude.
Or worse yet you see white grandparents with ONE grandchild who's mixed race. 9 times out of 10 that means the mother is a crackhead/methhead & she had an affair with some black guy who's into drugs/partying. Some druggy white girls like black guys because unlike white men they don't demand anything out of them. They can run around & party & get drunk & make their own hours & black men let them do whatever they want.
That's why you see so many white girls babbling about being "boos" & pretending they're black. They get knocked up, the black father abandons his woman & the kid & runs away to his other white trash women or his black "hoes"(their term, not mine) & then the white mother either goes on welfare or dumps the child off on their parents, where the white grandparents end up raising an unwanted grandchild as their own.
And lol, good luck getting child support. If the father has a legitimate job he'll probably quit the second they start docking his wages. And that's assuming he makes more than 9 bucks an hour. Most of them don't.
The white trash rednecks run the show now.
At least they known how to budget(but not much else). The blacks can't even do that. Look @ the black cities in Mississippi -- in a constant state of turmoil or bankruptcy.
"OMG, how do you stay so positive"......

I'd suggest you move out of Mississippi, but I honestly don't think that will help you.

You seem to WANT to see the absolute worst in people, so no doubt you'd see the same type of thing no matter where you go.

I think you're destined to be a miserable person regardless of where you live, so for all our sake, please stay in Mississippi.

No not all blacks are but usually speaking the ones who have money & good careers don't live in black areas. They live in white areas or out in the country on their own land away from the crime.
Blacks in the south aren't like the blacks in other parts of the country who are more white.
Come down here & live in a black area, I dare you too dude. You'll be scattering faster than the door slaps you on the ass on your way out.
The blacks down here are different from the ones in California or up north. They tend to be less educated, they have their own culture separate from that of even other blacks in other parts of the country & they don't really like white people as a general rule.
If you don't believe me figure it out for yourself.
Like I was telling you the other day dude if you think its a paradise i double dog dare you to come spend 6 months in a black area in southern Mississippi. Assuming your home doesn't get burglarized you'll be out in 2 weeks, tops.
Nobody has a problem with more upscale blacks -- its the "black trash" that are prevalent around here that nobody wants to live around because they sell dope & steal.
So again, it's more about poverty than race.

I lived for 2 years in Portsmouth, VA area. The first 6 months in as black a neighborhood as you can get because it was within walking distance of the base. Yes, there was a lot of crime & drug use etc. One night buckshot came down on my porch roof while I was outside cooling off; I moved out the next day. I moved across the river to Norfolk by the college- still a majority black area but like night & day; no crime, no drugs, no late nite gunplay, clean, & friendly & safe.

The difference between the 2 places- income, not skin color.

Btw, considering how blacks were treated in Mississippi by whites, can you really blame them for "not really liking whites"? It's one of the lasting effects of state-sponsored discrimination.

And NO, you couldn't pay me enough to ever live in Mississippi. But not because of the black population, but rather because of the white population.

Are you nuts? That was 50 yrs ago. All the people who did that are dead & the people who were children back then are nearing Social Security age. You can't be serious....
The evidence seems to suggest this guy was killed by what is either a black male hustler or by some black guy who had a gay encounter & then went crazy & killed the gay guy for "shaming him" & then robbed the guy & that sorta thing. Don't you read the news stories you talk about?
The people may me mostly dead, but the racist attitudes live on. Just read your own posts and those of your fellow Mississipian on here.

My neighbors spend each winter with a relative in Biloxi. They constantly tell me the racist attitudes there haven't changed a bit over the past 50 years; it's just a little less overt now.

Alabama finally repealed their inter-racial marriage ban in 2000, but had it not been for the black vote, the ban would have been UPHELD by a 60% majority white vote.

60% of whites voting to maintain an unenforceable ban on inter-racial couples marrying in 2000!

50 years may have passed, but attitudes in the deep south haven't changed much.

Nope, that just your racist beliefs.
I didn't understand it until I went in the military. Growing up in rural Minnesota the only black people I saw were on tv, so I assumed they were all like what you saw on the news- poor, criminals, drug users, etc.
Imagine my suprise when it turns out all black people weren't poor or criminals or drug abuses etc. I quickly realized all the stereotypes I was taught as a kid were just that- stereotypes based on ignorance.
I don't blame my parents; I don't think they ever met a black person their entire lives. They saw them on tv and from a distance on the rare ocassion they went to the Twin Cities for the state fair. They were just ignorant, and to be fair they still are.
YOU on the other hand have no such excuse. You're just plain prejudiced.
You call me prejudiced, but I believe you have lived a very sheltered existence. I know I'm right and nothing will change my mind, not even you.

That's the very definition of irrational bigotry- refusing to even consider alternatives.

I've lived all over the country in many minority majority places as well as poor white places. I've seen nothing to indicate race has anything to do with how most people behave, while living in abject poverty does.

Again, it's not irrational. I have lived around blacks in large numbers all of my life. I SEE HOW THEY BEHAVE. Their actions and behaviors are not figments of my imagination.

It is cultural and its definitely racial. You can hope against hope that it's not the case, but you're lying to yourself.

Look at these well paid black athletes, they have mega money and behave in the same ways-so what's the excuse there? I'm sure you have one, right?

I hold no real loyalty to the Civil War or the confederacy or jim crow or any of that garbage. I speak from what I've seen of living in this stinkhole for over 20 years & from traveling this state from top to bottom & east to west. I know this state if I know anything.

And how does that explain all the millions of whites who act the same way?

Portsmouth was as dark black in the deep south as you can get in the 80's.

I've also traveled throughout the south- North & South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, & Tennessee. I've seen it all over the years.

I've had to be away for a few days and so couldn't check the news. Racing back home from my job that pays to cage and feed Sheep's pets, I immediately logged on to the Web to check the newspaper site for the Press Register, Clarksdale's local fishwrap.

Breathlessly, I searched the headlines looking for the headline telling me the real McMillian murderer had been run to ground.

Nothing.

Scrolling up, scrolling down, frantically I control-effed to find something -- anything -- about the diabolical white Southern scum that had perpetrated this perfidious deed.

Nothing. Not a story. Not a headline.

And it looks like ... yes, seeing nothing, I finally realized.

The media is in on it too! They're covering up for the real killer, too, who is doubtless some snaggle-toothed neo-con-federate with a gun rack in his pick 'em up truck with the Rebel flag license plate on front and the BB King license plate on the back (if you're from Mississippi you'll know what I mean).

They're ALL in on it! The newspaper; the television stations; the black sheriff; the all-white, yet-to-be-picked jury; even the unborn, racist-to-the-very-marrow-of-t heir-as-yet-unformed-little-bo nes fetuses are covering up the identity of the real killer. It's everywhere! There is a racist wall of racist silence.

And then I understood at last. That's when a guilty tear formed at the corner of my eye and i said to myself "*That* is why WeTheSheeple stands up, shakes his little fist, and mewls his wrathful rant: "You all deny that the real killer is a white man because you're *all* racist. And, oh, one more thing: You're racist. And besides that, you're racist. And when you're not racist, you're being racist. Worse than that, you're being a white racist. You're so racist. I mean, so so so so soooooooooo racist. You're so racist that you're racist and you don't even know you're racist. You racist, you."
