State, County and City salaries

Watching the arrest of Bell, California officials tonight on TV for taking exorbitant salaries. The news report stated that they got away with it for so long because the citizens let them. What type of salaries are our officials drawing? I know the drivers for the Transit Authority make an average salary of $40,000 to $45,000, plus 100% paid insurance premiums,$750 uniform allowance (no receipts required)$200 Christmas bonus and a 12% wage increase over the next three years. Very good for a high school education and a CDL license! They need more taxpayer money -- why?

Not sure about those. Might need a physical FOIA form for that. I don't think they are online.

City employee salaries are listed public information; however, what these figures won't tell you is that the city manager can give an employee a raise at any time and as many times as he chooses without City Council approval. For example, Adam Barberro I am told gets regular monthly pay raises from the city manager. I would love to have some FOLA his financial records from the city.

the salaries of city and county employees are available to anyone at the courthouse. All you have to do is go up there and sign for them and show ID. They put them in the paper sometimes.

I remember a year or so ago they put all of the city employees in the paper. Nothing was really very shocking. They all seemed in line with what I would have expected. It even showed overtime for the past year.

Thanks for the great info. Where in the courthouse -- County Clerk Susan Thomas' office? I have heard there are some credit cards floating around that are paid without anyone actually seeing an itemized accounting. Still against the passing of either Special Services levy or Transit levy at the Nov. 2 election.

I can see the Special Services, but why not the Transit levy?

Go to my first posting - the union contract is way out of line, the Board raised the amount of the levy from $1.5 million to $1.8 million, the present levy is not up until 2012 but the Board wants to make sure the taxpayers keep on paying. For eighteen months the Harrison County buses funded by the HC taxpayers traveled three times per day to take Mylan employees to Morgantown. The Transit lost $150,000. The manager with 17 yrs experience was fired for no reason and a person without any certifications and not even a driver's license was put in her place for a salary of $60,000. All five Board members can sign checks for the Transit Authority. I could go on and on about the absolute waste and corruption of the Transit Authority! Vote NO on the Transit Levy to put a stop to this waste!!!

So if the bus levy is voted down then what? Do the buses disappear? People left with no way to get to work? Doesn't sound like an improvement to me.

The bus levy currently running is good until June 30, 2012. Therefore the Board will have time to clean up their act and put the bus levy back on the ballot in May, 2012 primary election. They have a $1 million dollar reserve fund they can spend if needed. What the current Board does not seem to realize is they need to go by the State Dept of Transportation rules to continue receiving funding ($400,000 per year) and they need to maintain a good relationship with the State Director of the DOT in order to continue driving the buses. The buses DO NOT belong to the individual Transit Authorities they are purchased by the STATE. As it is now the State could come in and shut down the Transit buses and garage due to non-compliance of DOT regulations. Of course this will not happen because of the Manchin election. Manchin will be there calling for better compliance with regulations when there is a major accident. VOTE NO!!!!

everything said about the transit authority (city buses) is true - they are unsafe, unreliable, and uncoordinated - most agendas performed there are for the union workers and not in the best interest of the tax paying public

the manager was wrongly fired by an imcompetant board of directors (who are also on the city council and county commission)- they don't know what they're doing - why is it that the manager was fired?- the office supervisor quit - and 2 long tenured board members quit as well as a very well known and respected man who resigned all due to the other board members incompetancy - there needs to be an investigation performed on the transit board and the authority as a whole - investigate the union working with the board of directors too and you'll find alot of answers to all of these questions there!

alot of bad things going on there that need to be corrected by the tax paying public
