I love the City Of Clarksburg. Dan Thompson, Martin Shaffer and Margaret Bailey are up for reelection. They have done an exemplary job and should be thanked for thier work. However the time has come for new faces and fresh ideas. True or not the seed has been planted in the mind's of the people that Councilman Thompson has used his influence to prevent his son Bryan from being properly reprimanded for his poor decisions. Councilman Shaffer seems to be more interested in quarreling with the City Manager than improving the city. This situation has become stagnate. I say bring on some new faces and fresh ideas and help this great town rise again.

I am not saying that we don't need a change, but for all you who want a change, what would you do if you were on city council?

@ Zig zag. First get a new city manager. If he didn't get rid of the economic development person, Jim Moreno, then get another city manager. If you want to live in a deteriorating, run down city put our decision makers in a thriving beautiful city and wait.

I do not claim to have all the answers. I would ask questions about things that I found peculiar. I have noticed city public work trucks with more than five passengers driving around the city after hours on many occasions. Does this mean the city is paying all these men over time rates and if so is all that man power really necessary? I have heard from folks who work in the municipal building that take home vehicles are given to non emergency personnel. I would ask why does a code enforcement employee need a take home vehicle and city paid gas? I would try to cut down on unnecessary spending. I have buddies who work for the street department and I know that if five men are working on a project at least three are simply holding up the shovel.I believe the city is over staffed as a result of former council members pushing to get friends and family employed. Trim the fat, cut costs, start small and go from there.

I agree that C-burg needs a change. But where to start in a matter of opinoin, such as, I think to be able fix the city we must first at a place we all have heard about recently CPD.If you can't uphold the law without using brutal force the public as a whole won't trust or can't trust the people we expect to protect us.thus we need to investigate the people who are in charge of the CPD...that being our Chief of Police Marshall Goff...and I'm not trying to slam this guy, just his ability as a chief of police.

I recently posted my feelings on law enforcement. The public has a rose colored view of the world because the public does not encounter the day to day offenders. We only encounter the ugly side of people every now and again. Police deal with it EVERY day. They are the ones who deal with OUR problems and face the things that we are afraid of. Occasionally you will see acts of unnecessary force, however I believe that the public needs to realize that the police officers need to assume control over whatever situation they come upon. We need to defend the officers that work everyday to protect us and keep our streets safe more than we protect the offenders. Too often you hear stories of undeserved police brutality. But ask yourself, "What did that person do to be treated that way?"
When a police officer gives a person a lawful order, and the accused party disobeys that order then that person has obstructed and would face charges. What happens is, folks who are normally lawabiding, encounter police when they are intoxicated and fighting with their spouse and are pissed off when police arrive. Trust me these men and women do their very best and are hardly the biggest problem in this city.

I must agree that Margeret Bailey has done a wonderful job. She may have her quirks but don't we all. I was very impressed that she chose to honor the student athletes at a recent council meeting, where she introduced each athlete and presented them with certificate. I was however, appalled by the lack of enthusiasm of some of the other members of council and their constant eye rolling as Ms. Bailey was speaking. I mean first of all there were parents present in the audience and second of all there were cameras present. Did she really think her actions would not be noticed?? Second of all, I do think some investigation needs done into the CPD as well as the Magistrates office (which I know is a state function). The CPD seems unwilling/incapable of enforcing restraining orders that were ordered by a judge. If a person is told that they are not to be within so many feet of someone, why is it ok for them to be within 20 feet of that person with the cop standing there saying he doesn't know what he can do about it??? One he can walk over to the person and tell them to leave/move and two he can also file a report that states that he witnessed this. But that's too much paperwork. The drug issues is another problem. If our CPD is not going to start cracking down on EVERYONE and getting these people off the streets and away from our kids then lets get rid of them all and hire new ones who won't be afraid of who these people know. I want Clarksburg to be the way it was when I was growing up and it was safe to let your kids up the block to play with their friends. At this point I don't like my kids playing in our own backyard. I want my city back!!

I believe Chief Goff is a good man and a very competent chief. If the city manager would allow him to BE the chief. Anytime your job is based on keeping politicians happy its a bad mix for the public. Also if you think the drug problem is bad explain this. How can they continue to reduce the drug task force in manpower. We need these men to keep these dealers from out of town at bay. I attended a town meeting once and was told by an officer that in 1990 the drug force had twice the members than it has now. I remember 1990 and the drug problem wasn't even a problem compared to today. Let's not be quick to point fingers at the police or the chief. I agree that we should hold council members in accountable for the state of affairs here. We need to vote more people that are concerned about the community and the betterment of the whole city and not the local business owners that only want to improve their income or fix up their properties for personal gain.

Martin Shaffer was investigated for ethics violations for misconduct as a council member. Does anyone know if this investigation has been completed? I believe has tried to sabatoge the city manager from the beginning because he applied for that job. Our city manager is a young man with young children growing up here in our city. I have had the pleasure of knowing him as we went to the same school. He is a man of integrity and he realizes that the work he does for this city now will impact his children's future and that is why he does such a great job.

I remember reading that his sister was arrested by the drug task force for selling drugs in glen elk. Which I thought was ironic because on at least 2 occasions I recall him complaining openly in council meetings about the drug activity near his properties in glen elk and how he complained to Chief Goff to "get it taken care of". Anybody know if she was found guilty or if it just went away?

Prosecutor's office does not prosecute violations of restraing orders.Domestic restraining orders can be enforced.

IN other words if it is not domestic violence related the restraining order is useless in this county. You would be have to serve as your own prosecutor.

From a positive standpoint.(In lieu of the obviously sour one from the councilman)Ezekial, whoever, we need help. How long can we listen to politicians pretend that downtown Clarksburg is thriving and that the best way to bring business and spend city money is on art.I am personally not a politician but I am a business man. I assure everyone if I was surveying a prospective area that art would not be a key factor. Is it not possible to have the Mission moved further away from downtown? Prostituting, drug dealing and panhandling are not a good look for potential business locations.

I agree the idea of painting a mural in downtown C-Burg doesn't sound good at this time. First take care of the fundamental issues. As long as the mission is right down town folks will not feel safe. Most may not realize that area police departments bring their undesirables to the C-Burg mission and drop them off. Until this issue is faced head on, painting murals is the same idea as polishing a turd.
