Absolutely Not ! Most gang-members are NOT gay. That being said, it is a well known fact that ALL gangs do have some gay gang-members. The percentage of gay members would be higher than the perecentage of gay men in general population. It is generally agreed that anywhere from 5 to 12 percent of the male population is bi or gay. A bit higher in the Philippines where for unknown reasons it ranges up to about 17 percent. But the male percentage would be a bit higher than the national average because of the nature of gang life itself attracts gays. The closeness of guys hanging around and pledging their loyalty to other guys. Hanging around with other guys and putting your girlfriends second. It all goes together with the gay life. A good bet would be that about 10 to 20 percent or more of a gang population is bi or gay. In almost all cases the gays in a gang are closeted and no one except other gay gang members know they are gay. They are not effiminate at all and give all outward indiacations of being macho guys. But they are gay underneat nevertheless.

When a uneducated soon-to-be gang-member isn't guided by his parents properly, they seek out for some kind of adventure and rush, which are gangs.
Boredome does lead a person to do anything just to get the person entertained.

Although I do not have enough data to make a definite conclusion. I have seen with my own eyes and hearsay about the gay & gangs being interrelated.

The one case I have seen with my own eyes was about 5-6 years ago. My neighbor's cousin was one of those one paragraph blurb murder victims. He was a gang member that I had met twice and he was straight up central casting. Well both my neighbor and I have pickup trucks so he asked me to help him move stuff out of his cousin's apartment. Well, I soon found out there is a thug love gay porn niche out there as he had about a dozen DVDs of this ilk. Also we found love letters written from some dude in that ig'nant gangsta gibberish. My neighbor always had suspicions that his cousin was gay and believed the whole gang thing was an overcompensation of macho for his gayness. I doubt if that would fly in a peer reviewed research article but it sounds somewhat logical to me.

The second instance occured about a year or so after the above. My stepsister was dating this dude who was a police officer assigned to the Gang Unit. One day the conservation of gays and gangs came up and he stated his conservative estimate was that at least 40% of gang members were gay or bisexual. And he continually stressed that that number was conservative and was most likely higher.

A third confirmation happened in just the past six months, this time on the radio. A minister that claimed he was a prison counselor was discussing the gay activity within gang culture was rampant. He did not put out any numbers but from tone is seemed like it was more normal than abnormal.

Personally, I believe gangs are down-low societies that use aggresiveness to mask their homosexuality. I doubt if you would get anyone to admit it, but to me it is fairly obvious.

OF COURSE, gang members are gay! They would just never admit it, EVER. They even make fun of other gays, all in an effort to be all "badass" and macho. They're afraid of their own identity, that's why they seek attention from gangs. Also, they have had absolutely no parents that ever taught them anything or showed them any love. Most gangs around here have initiation rituals where they all have sex with the new one, one after another, or make him go down on every one of the gang members, one right after the other.
It's a very large "gangbang" (hence the term) and the inductee usually enjoys it thoroughly, although he may act like he don't like it at the time, just so people won't think he was a "willing" participant in it. IF he refuses, they beat him severely. This is common practice, and the more seed he takes the more macho and manly he is considered to be. After this is done, one of the "higher ups" in the gang will then take him as a lover, and occasionally will lend him out to others as he sees fit.

I have to confirm the lildog's post. The minister I mentioned in my above post mentioned such in his radio interview. Again I have no way to prove this personally.

I believe part of the problem is that most of these guys are raised solely by mothers, grandmothers, and aunts. If any men are around they are either sorry or strictly authority figures i.e. police, teachers. They are often times molested by uncles, older cousins, and mama's boyfriends. Therefore they get turned out. However, in society gays are a group whereas it is still somewhat acceptable to harass. They know this, yet they are too weak to handle the ridicule of being gay. Therefore they band up with other gay men of the same ilk but overcompensate by having an outer personna of being "super hard" while being sweeter than sugar.

The good news is that I believe the fact that gang members are gay is slowly becoming the dominant belief of general society. Hopefully, when the day comes that being in a gang fully equates to being gay, gang members will embrace their homosexuality and become productive citizens.

I'd say most of the LGBT gang members would be Bisexual and some gay, but there "down low" I say someday when the ghetto accepts the LGBT community...well most are on the down low so i say alot are gay or Bisexual gang members.
