Is it weird for a parent to refer to his kid as the boy rather than by his name?

For 41 years my father referred to all of us as "kid". Never once called us by name and we never thought much about it. I guess he could have called us worse :)

yeah, I guess. My hubs grandmother used to call my kids "that boy or that girl" it used to piss me off when she did call the others by name. It didn't take them long to figure out that calling her "the old grandma" pissed her off.:)
