Im so disgusted with the TLC Party running the village of Lyons, IL. The developers are getting richer while the village residents are suffering with higher taxes, village streets with terrible pot holes, and alleys that need to be paved. This administration has financially ruined the village by squandering the reserves from $3.6 million less than two years ago to a projected reserve by end of the year of $400K. Theyve started projects without thinking thing through and now the village is financially strapped. Ive spoken to residents and they are terrified by the strong arm tactics that they use against the residents. They threaten residents into voting for their party if they resist they have the building code enforcers to their home writing up bogus code violations. So, I hope to God that on April 17th the residents go out and vote those want to be gangsters out of office. We need to renew the faiths and hearts of the residents with a new administration of honest and community giving trustees.

How dumb can you be? If you remember the TLC Party took the village out of debt and has attacked more bussines than ever before. The TLC Party has started more street programs and repaired more alleys than the last 4 mayors prior to Visk. If allowing the code enforcers to to do their job is strong arming, then you should be in a body cast. Thank God for for a professional administration that we know have thanks to Mayor Visk and the only gangster we have is Ken Getty and he is still licking his wounds. So get your head out of your butt and move, you'll be doing the town a favor.

IN KNEE DEEP was right on target with what has happened in Lyons. I see that Steve Mazur, one of the TLC party hand maidens was quick to come to their defense. Steve has no credibility in Lyons. Each election he runs for office against the TLC to help split up the opposition vote telling people that he is against the TLC. After the election he writes things supporting them and telling people that the TLC is the best thing since sliced bread.
Lyons does need to rid the town of the TLC. Can anyone imagine a village administration voting for a 5th TIF District while the other four are open and unsuccessful. Our grandchildren will still be paying off the debt. Four years ago the TLC induced the residents to vote for a seven million dollar referendum for a new Police Department. They received the money but have not built the building where they said they would and they have spent part of the money on other things.
Their latest deal is to take our only large park and sell it to one of their developer friends to build 49 townhouses on. They won this past April 17th election with 30 some percent of the vote as there were two opposing parties and Steve Mazur running against the TLC. It is obvious that the TLC cannot hold on any longer. There will be a two year dash to get as much more out of this town as possible and then you will see most of them grab their hat and move out of town. I commend IN KNEE DEEP for having the guts to tell the truth.

I have lived in Lyons for more than 20 years. In that time my taxes have gone from less than 1% of my homes value to closely approaching 2%. For this increased tax percentage my family receives less garbage service for increased fees, the highest water rates for a thousand mile radius, due in part to a surcharge attached for a previous defaults on a village debt, a library where the only change has been a new carpet, a "new" middle scholl that gears its curriculum to the high school with the lower standards of the two high schools it feeds, streets and alleys that are in bad need of repair and are only serviced with minor stripping repairs along the curbs that get torn apart when the snowplows come through in the winter, new businesses owned mostly by outsiders and townhomes destined to be occupied by renters in the future that replaced businesses of local ownership and create little "added" tax revenue if any at all, a quarry being filled with materials that are not lab-tested or have samplings retained in the event of contaminated material being dumped in close proximity of the water table and a river that runs throughout northeastern Illinois (a practice that should be sending up red flags throughout the state), multiple failed TIF districts that our grandchildren will be struggling to pay for in many many years, and most recently, another eminent domain takeover of the only decently sized park in order to build a new municipal facility that will not be supported by the grounds of the quarry landfill(no kidding - who is the Einstein that thought that was going to work). With no park to play their games, the kids who play in the Little League and use the tennis, basketball, volleyball and other facilities of Smith Park will be left with nothing to do partly because the Recreation program and facility are totally lacking in equiptment and programs. I could go on and on, but my point has been made. If Lyons is allowed to go forward unabated on this course, it will eventually, and soon I might add, become a look-alike for the economically depressed towns of the Deep South of the U.S.A.
I apologize if this is a repost, because my last post did not appear on the blog and was lengthier than this one

my last comment did not appear on my forum. I have lived in Lyons for 38 years and raised two kids ,in this town. I just hope, that thier will be base/softball fields ,for the kids of lyons. Also, a park for the other kids,of Lyons.Who do not play ball. It keeps them off the streets. This is the only thing these kids have.

I have lived in this town for 12 years. In this time, things have gone from bad to worse. At all times, David Visk has had his hand in the destruction as either trustee or Mayor. How cold, indifferent and low can the trustees and Visk be to even contemplate the removal of our park/baseball field in favor of completely unneeded town homes? Shame on all responsible.

I recently heard about the removal of Smith Park and I cannot explain how truly saddened I am. How can our "Village Trustees" feel that taking this away from our kids is a good thing. These kids have NOTHING on this part of town other than that park. McCook park is another alternative but that park is geared towards younger and a much smaller crowd I might add. So, just where are these kids supposed to go? Riding their bikes down streets where cars travel way to fast? There's a field across from Costello School that has little or no use. Why isn't that field used to build a new park for the kids? How can this village take Little League away from these kids? Do you have NO heart at all? The TLC is a load of crap in my opinion. When Vachata was in office, they did NOTHING but go against every good thing she tried to do. I believe in my opinion that the "take over" of property, such as the restaurant across from Snowflake, was done on Vachata's term to make her look bad. Since the village board now is made up of mostly TLC members, you don't see that happening now do you? This town needs to wake up and stop voting for these people. And one more question while I'm on a roll. How did Eddie Metz NOT get into office? Supposedly by one vote??? Please! My mother in law didn't vote.. maybe I should insist HER vote be counted!
Our kids need something.. someplace to go. Why on earth would you want to tear down something that isn't broken! What happened to aquiring the property next to Waterworks and using that for your new town hall? Do we really need to spend 11 million dollars on it? I voted NO, everyone I talked to voted no, yet somehow, there were enough votes to pass it. Sounds fishy to me.....

I don't recall seeing "anywhere" where the Village is "taking away" anything like this from the kids in town. The Village is going to "replace" the fields across the street and from what I understand it's going to be top knotch, new fields built to official little league specs. Little League wants everyone to think that they own that property at Smith Park. They don't. The Village has owned that property, they maintain it, they cover the cost of water, electric and so on. I don't understand what everyone is getting all crazy about.

The TLC is not the problem, nor is David Visk. As long as you have people like Getty and Vachata in that community, you will have trouble. Vachata stopped the state from providing a one million dollar grant to go to her own village because the TLC would get the credit. Getty is an ex-con who was convicted for scamming his village and who ran a campaign for village board from his prison cell. I keep reading above about failed TIFS, but the fact is that each one has paid for itself. You have beautiful condos and a river walk, also a new mall, as evidence of their success. Wasn't it Vachata and her cronies, also, that stopped a one million dollar sale of the obsoltete, small stretch of Plainfield road behind the new mall? The mall could have been larger and the Village a million dollars richer but for that bonehead move.

How are they going to build a park on a site that is already contaminated? How safe is it (for our kids) to build next to a giant hole in the ground that will not be filled for years? Why wasn't this brought out before the April elections? Funny, how the Mayor's son just finished his last year in little league and won't be affected. The developers say they are targeting the new buildings for young professionals.....yeah right.

I am going to work very hard to make Lyons a better place. That means that I will do everything in my power to bring a new political party to power here in Lyons. I will be backing the United Citizens Party. They are young, professional and have run very serious and logical campaigns in the past. It is time for the majority of the Lyons residents to support them.

I can not believe that there are so many unaware and uneducated people in our Village. First of all kudos to MexicanMike who asked where are all these irrate citizens every third Tuesday of the month?
Maybe if tax payers would make it their responsibility to become informed through actually investigating and researching the truth about the state of the Village, they might be taken serious when they speak out. Who will take you seriously if you don't know what you are talking about?
Like the genious who talks about the reserves dwindling and in the same sentence talks about how infrastructure needs to be addressed. How else can things get repaired if reserve funds are not utilized?
And if you are going to talk about a tax increase of 1% over twenty years, then educate yourself on your tax bill before you run your mouth about how your taxes have gone up.
Baseball fields, contamination- please! No state or federal agency will allow a public park to be built and openned without it being brought to standard. Look around you-do you really think anyone living in the near suburbs is NOT living with contamination everyday? Just like the green movement, we have do it in baby steps in order for it to be sucessful. After that park is complete it will benefit Lyons more than any politictian ever has or ever will.
For a Village of a little over 10,000 people, there is more drama here than on "The Young and the Restless"! Come on people, lets get together to do good not spread evil.
So please, spare us your personal vendetas and mud slinging and maybe make a suggestion, and please make it an intelligent one.
