CLAREMONT, N.H.- The mayor wants to prevent Claremont residents from speaking about individual agent items unless a public hearing has been scheduled.
Some city councilors say the current practice that allows residents to comment on individual items as they are being considered by the elected officials leads to disruptions and meetings that can last for hours.

The proposal by Mayor Deborah Cutts is likely to surface at a city council meeting next month.

Assistant Mayor Andy Austin says the council isn't trying to hide anything, but people are talking at any time during meetings.

Resident Bernie Folta, a frequent voice at council meetings, says letting people talk counteracts mistrust of government.

This is outrageous Debora simply limit the time to speak to 3 minutes good God what are you thinking if at all?

Many towns in NH have open forums at meetings but in a more structured manner. They have a section called "citizens concerns". They also limit public input until the council or selectmen are done with their discussions. This practice seems to keep the meetings open to the public for discussion but also keeps some order in them to keep them moving along.......just food for though because it seems to satisfy both sides.....and we all want everyone happy
