She was a very nice woman and will be missed by many. My thoughts are with her family and friends. What a terrible tragedy!

I guess "it" being the car, was in drive instead of reverse. I know someone who did the same thing, drove right through the garage door.

I find it interesting that "the car accelerated onto the sidewalk." I was always under the impression that drivers drove cars, not that cars were in control. I have never had my car accelerate by itself. It has always been my foot that makes it accelerate or decelerate.

It didn't say the car accelerated by itself. It said it accelerated. And that's what it did. Just like when an article says "the vehicle skidded to a stop", or "the smaller vehicle was struck by a truck", or "the vehicle rolled three times", they just assume that since you know someone was behind the wheel you understand that they were driving. It doesn't mean that the vehicle rolled over by itself three times like a dog doing a trick. Apparently this time they were wrong, and you didn't understand.

Uncle Ron, A very incredible person was tragically killed in an accident. A son is now without a mother, a father without a daughter and a community without a bright ray of sunshine to brighten their days. Her best friend is devastated...be a little more sensitive. She was a great friend to all and will be missed.

May have been an accident, but the circumstances are suspicious. No mention of an investigation by the Claremont P.D.?

I agree with Robert in that it is odd that the article does not mention anything about the police. I am sure an accident report was taken... usually an officer will make a statement as to what happened. but instead the article gives us statements from a coworker of the victim who tells us what witnesses told him. If it is under investigation then the article should have said that. The reporter basically sent out an invitation for the comments this article is receiving because of the way it is written.

Sounds to me that there is more to the story, on it's face it sounds like murder, she ran her freind over, case closed? Are you serious, things and people are not all that they appear. Sounds like she killed her freind out of jelousy, expect an arrest in the future once the Cops short this thing out.

For Hmmm and others, here's two paragraphs about the police investigation from my original story:

"Claremont police Lt. Dennis Smith said an investigation into the crash won't be complete for two or three weeks.

Smith said he doesn't know whether the department will forward its findings to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for possible criminal prosecution."

Yes, this type of accident does happen. I was involved in a similar thing recently but fortunately no one lost their life. My heart goes out to their family and friends.

I profoundly hope that there is a careful investigation of this accident.

I have nearly been hit by the woman who hit and killed her friend, once as a pedestrian and once as a driver. She is someone one encounters often enough in the Village in Claremont; it's easy enough to recognize her and her SUV.

My impression on these prior occasions was that she was not really in control of her vehicle, and that she used some really poor judgment or was inattentive because of distractions in her car. She did not see the pedestrians on the sidewalk behind her as she backed VERY quickly and inexpertly into a parking space. She did a three-point turn in the middle of the block (which is illegal) to get a parking space in front of her store (when it was on Yale) and thereby cut off the driver in front of her in the oncoming lane, and compelled the driver behind her to slam on her brakes.

Though her killing of her friend was of course an accident, I profoundly hope that there is a careful investigation and that IF in fact this is another instance of her driving recklessly or being unable to control her massive vehicle, that there is a prosecution for reckless driving/involuntary manslaughter.

So sad. There is more to this story. Wait until the complete investigation is done. The DB only puts out limited info since it's a free online news brief.

Not a thing wrong with that story. Chances are that it WOULD have been murder in Pomona, pure and simple. If people in Pomona don't like that perception then maybe THEY should change and behave in a more civilized manner.

It appears that this was a very tragic, freak accident. When I arrived at that block on my way to the movies at 1:00 p.m., Wed, I found it completely roped off, and had to reroute my automobile to the parking garage. The police were investigating when I went to the movies at 1:00 p.m. and they were still investigating, when I came out at 4:00 p.m. My heart goes out to the families of both the driver and the victim.

Can't argue history. What? You think just because we're "Claremont" that racial prejudices and biases don't exists in a supposed "high class" town? Give me a break, pull your head out of your culo. I wonder how sympathetic you people would be if the driver were Asian, we'd be seeing stereotypes galore.

As for Capt America, it's people like you and you're disgusting stereotypes that keep cities like Pomona the way they are. Stay classy buddy!
