Someone needs to question how Rich Lattanzi managed to get back taxes waived for his dad. His dad owned several properties all with delinquent taxes.

Lattanzi had the city, school, county and Keystone eliminate the back taxes for pennies on the dollar.

The best part is that Lattanzi had George Gobel do all the paperwork at the tax payers expense.

Don't believe me? Just ask some people on council.

Little Richie pulled a fast one.

The following is public information from the ocuntry court records.

Case Docket is GD-10-000086, PETITION TO COMPROMISE, EXONERATE, STRIKE AND SATISFY REAL ESTATE TAXLIENS AND MUNICIPAL LIENS

Filed January 05, 2010.

What this essentially amounted was a property on Miller Avenue whose property owners owed taxes they did not pay to the county, city, or school district, since 1983-2008 for the most part. I say that because the city was owed from 1983 to 2008 the school 1983-2007 the county 1998-2008. Imagine. TWENTY FIVE YEARS! And these jerks let it go on without doiong anyting about it. This should have been taken care of in 1988.

And Yes Gobel was the counsel and the solicitor for Clairton.

The city was the plaintiff/petitioner and the defendants/respondants were the city, school district, county and, individually the property owners Lattanzis and Kuklers.

I like this type of suit. Being the plaintiff and the defendant. How 'bout that!

The petition in effect said that the property was only worth $600 now and that to go after the taxes (after 25 years) that was owed $26,004.60 would be essentially cost prohibitive on the parts of all parties and actually getting payment would not be likley. Daaah seems logical to me.

So they agreed in effect that the city would get $467.68 out of over $9,000 they were owed, the school district would get #3,477.68 out of over $16,200 they were owed, and the county would get $304.64 out of $450+ they were owed. In addition for consideration of $1 in a quit-claim the city would get the property. All forgiven to the property owners.

There can be many more of these folks. Losing thousands and thousands of dollars and possibly millions because these jerks are not watching the store. Or are they?

Let us see what Gobel is going to settle with the owners whose properties were demolished on St Clare that the city paid for over $70,000. Let's see how much of our money they are going to get back. Why the hell is council even letting Gobel handle this. Gabriel is capable. You can switch attorneys anytime. Hell one of our council members did this when he dumped and attorney on a case and Gobel took over. Does it pass your sniff test?

How can properties be on the books for years with thousands of dollars and even tens of thousands owed by people some of who are our officials with nothing being done.

I want to not only do something about this outrage but more. If you want to keep paying your taxes and allow these folks to get away without paying theirs, exonerating others that have not paid taxes for years et.al, then I sure don't want to hear your bellyaching at any council meeting.

You peolpe are disgusting. I love people who hide behind usernames and make accusations without all the facts. Mayor Lattanzi is the least of the problems in the city. Why don't you people pitch in and help the city out a little rather than complain about things all the time.
Rich works very hard for the community and deserves a little help. He cares about the city. Give him some time and He will turn that city around. He needs help! He can't do it himself.

This is the same sort of propaganda we have been hearing for thirty years -- and may well go on hearing for another thirty years. The unhappy truth is that the local governments in the MonValley have no real power and therefore cannot do much of anything. The REAL power rests with US Steel and the USW -- the REAL government is there.

Since it was not elected or otherwise empowered by the people, it really does not owe them anything. As long as the residence of the MonValley continue to overlook this reality, the region will remain the fiefdom of USS/USW and its people will continue as their serfs -- little better than slaves.

Here in America and elsewhere, we fought revolutions to abolish this....yes, I think I remember reading about that somewhere once. Perhaps you should consider the possibility that what has worked so many other places just might work in the MonValley too.

You are right, the mayor can't do it by himself so an independant community group is a good thing it means people want to start getting involved. The same people have been on council for years and Clairton is not improving so ideas need to come from other places. If the accusations that have been brought forward are not accurate then that will be the end of it as far as I'm concerned but if they are true something needs to be done. And by the way "spittman003" Mr. Beckovitch did use his real name.

Why should we give the mayor a chance? So he can waive the BACK TAXES for other family member? He got his dad's BACK TAXES waived and that's all I need to know.

Why was he even elected? Because he's related to the fire chief? That's a big waste of money there too. Two midgets we can do without.

I wouldnt lift a finger for the mayor. He got elected and did nothing but help himself and waive his dad's BACK TAXES.

I can work with the mayor. I can work with the council. I am willing to give the mayor the benefit of the doubt even though some of what I am finding that is public record was during his time on council. My question is this. Is the mayor willing to work with the citizens? And my biggest question is are those on council willing to work with the citizens. Some I doubt it from information I have obtained under the right to know. You can get this same information. Go ask for records. See what they have been doing and what they have not been doing. This shit is all politics and maybe just maybe a hell of a lot worse.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Chicken shit hiding behind a screen name. I doubt very much his uncle got him elected.
Mike, I was not replying to you but the other people that never attend meetings or bother to get there facts straight.I agree that there is a lot of politics in the city but I realy believe that He will work with you on your concerns. I think He gets a bad rap for things out of his control. Thats my opinion.

What is yoir goal asked, what is my goal? to get the citizens of this community involved and let them decide what they want done with and in the community.
I personally want to see something done about delinquent taxpayers. Take their property after the third year. Pa law allows that. That will be a new ordinance if council wants to work with the citizens or on the ballot if they don't.
I personally want to see people who haven't paid their taxes in due course or make an effort to do so thru say payments have their wages garnished. That to will be a new ordinance but this has to be done thru the courts. Pa law allows for garnishing of wages for local taxes.
I want to see more transparency not like council does in acting quickly on some matters without at times even understanding it themselves. And I want to be able to discuss it when it comes up for vote if the agenda does not sufficiently explain the matter. And this garbage about speaking for three minutes needs changed. Controlled but changed.
I want something done about these properties people are not taking care of and making this city a disaster zone.
I want people to be aware of private corp. acting as community groups for the benefit of the people when they and their businesses are not paying taxes and act all high and mighty. Can I have an amen!
And more.
Did you read the article about Bell, Calif. on the front page of the Post-Gazette on Saturday. I see similarities to Clairton! Hell they are looking to recall their officials and throw their entire city government the hell out of office! Read the article

I give you credit, but it's a fools chore.

It's the citizens fault in the first place. The reason things are so bad is because nobody really cared.

It's been going on too long, for too many years. It's become a way of life in Clairton.

I've contacted state and federal authorities in this matter. This is fraud, based on the given facts, and a violation of PA and federal laws. Have fun yelling at each other on this blog and getting nowhere.

Any of you could have contacted the authorities including the PA atty. gen. office in this matter. Such a shame the corruption goes on in this region so openly without people being frogwalked out of federal court.

Well, pass this onto the council and mayor. Your going to need legal council not associated with the mob or club owners.

In response to "Dumb Little Richie"and your comment about two little midgets is very rude and ignorant.
Mayor Rich Lattanzi won the Mayor's race on his own merits and hard work. The Mayor is very hard working, honest, enthusiastic and will do the right thing. He has stepped into his new position with alot on his plate. The economy is bad, worst winter in years, hot and humid summer with the heat index hitting 100-102 and a large tear in the Clairton pool and an unbalanced budget.
So,please give him a chance ;he deserves that.
Clairton is a nice community made up caring and kind citizens. It is one of the few places where you can live and know your neighbors, your neighbors know you and you kinda watch out for each other and your kids.I really miss that! I barely know any of my neighbors and nobody says hello and my taxes are triple that of Clairton.
Rich is a really nice guy and a good person with good intentions! You should be proud and honored to have him as your mayor!

Yes, there is alot of cronyism on council. If there has been any illegal activities going on remains to be seen. I am more interested in having some city ordinances looked into, the issue of deadbeat taxpayers has been a thorn in the side of the city for a long time, derelict properties is another concern. I have made many complaints to the city and the mayor himself about a particular property and it fell on deaf ears. I think those of you that are so "upset" that a citizens group is forming very puzzling. Are you afraid of the fact that people are beginning to involve themselves, or that they may have access to damaging information?

If you miss it so much, then move back. It's to the point now where there is no "nice part" of town. The garbage took over in 90% of areas. Wilson is bad these days. The only "nice" part is in the circle. The rest is pretty much shot.

You're paying triple taxes so you don't have to put up with the crap that's in Clairton. Nobody is moving to Clairton due to low taxes except slum lords.

It's a shame but the quality of life in the town is bad. There's NOTHING. It's an island. No stores, no schools, no safety. Just low taxes and neighbors that say hello? I'll take the high taxes any day of the week over having junk for neighbors.

The problem is the fact that people in Clairton DO KNOW their neighbors and that's why the old people are shut ins. If you live there, you're surrounded by dysfunction. People know their neighbors, and that's why the old people are scared to go outside. That's why the town closes at 5PM. Most neighbors are on drugs or they are saying hello to panhandle or to case your house.

Rich is probably the nicest guy in the world. I wish him all the luck. Personally though, I can't see what difference it will make. Things have been let go for too long.

I give citizens groups credit. The biggest problem they will face is actually finding people that give a hoot. Most people don't.

Most people are just waiting for the next shoe to drop. The next "riot," the next shooting, the next home invasion, the next explosion. I think some people are just waiting for the city to dissolve all together. That's where it's heading. There won't be a city left in a few years.
