Once upon a time the city used to be nice.

Then a $5 prostitute started selling arse down on State Street to guys coming out of the mill. She got knocked up and out came Raz.

The afterbirth is what polluted the air.

The end.

It's even simpler. The MonValley got raped by US Steel.
So now? Just fill in their shitholes, the bums will be gone.
After that everything will be alright.
IT'S GOTTA GET BETTER 'CAUSE IT CAN'T GET WORSE!!!!

Still in all you must admit the MonValley will be better off when those useless shitholes are filled in and those bums are gone for good. Even they will be happier when all they have to do is get drunk and stay drunk. Then they won't have to even pretend they have real jobs or worry about "job killers" or "conspiracies" any more.

The only real danger is that then the MonValley will become "some place nice" and the bums may want to start moving back. But with luck, this won't happen

It IS hopeless, if you want to keep those shitholes open for those bums. C'mon, they don't even live in the MonValley.

What are those bums to you anyhow?

Oh, I agree every one of the bums in those useless shitholes falls under that category. Really they need to just leave steel production to foreign firms who have the technology and the competence to do it right.
Remember, they do not have any "job killers" or "conspiracies" to hold them back -- or even any bums stupid enough to believe in such nonsense. Therefore they succeed; US Steel always fails.
Let them make the steel right; let these bums go get drunk. It's about the only thing they are actually go for

I used to go to Church in Clairton when I was a little girl. My grandparents lived there. It used to be such a nice town with movie theater ice cream palors. And as always the Blue Bird resteraunt. I was there in the late 90s and it made me so sad to see it. Scapics the local clothing store was boarded up. Things have greatly deterriated in The City of Prayer.

And as long as US Steel and the USW keep that old dump running, far in violation of Federal laws and industry standards 24/7, any new industry is effectively locked out and the economy is locked down.

Get plow the old dumps under and that will get rid of the bums in it. This will NOT assure the recovery of the MonValley, but it will give it a chance. Leave those old dumps and all you can hope for is more of the same.

But please don't expect anything more or even anything else from those bums with USS/USW. They will never offer the MonValley are more or anything better than this. They never have; they never will.

I was born & raised in clairton. In the 60s & mid 70s it was a great place 2 live. Multiple groceries, movie theaters, small & large businesses of every nature. When the Mills starting closing down -all over the mon valley, the entire area went downhill. Blacks, drugs, crime, more drugs...etc.. There is nothing left. Very unsafe place 2b. Disgusting, really.

The mills closed down because they chose to rely on obsolete technology and equipment and the steady progressive depreciation of assets through breakdown maintenance. This was necessary because the USW believed that any progress or improvements were "job killers" and a "conspiracy to break the union"

It is interesting that the very problems that wrecked the US steel are also responsible for its putrid record on health, safety, the environment and equipment reliability. Rejection of and opposition to progress in order to fantasize about "job killers" and "conspiracy theories" -- while doing the one thing they do best....getting drunk.

The problem is exactly same as that which was faced by the dinosaurs or the American Indian -- except in the case of the USW it is entirely self-inflicted --

THEY ARE PAYING THE PRICE FOR BEING BACKWARD!

Unfortunately, they also seem quite determined to take the entire MonValley down the tube with them. As long as their useless old shitholes are kept afloat by government life support, new industry remains locked out and the economy of the MonValley stays locked down.

The solution therefore is quite obvious. Fill in the shitholes, run the bums out for good and give the rest of the monValley another chance.

Maybe with FOREIGN steel producers!

Not everybody just those useless old shitholes. Once we fill those in that will finish off the bums and everything will be alright.

C'mon what have those bums ever done for the MonValley or for you? Poison gas, a bad reputation, the black lung and the occasional dead body. Why you could get a better deal from a foreign army of occupation than you will ever get from those bums in their shitholes.

Soooo....get rid of the shitholes and the bums in them and give the rest of the MonValley a chance. Even if it doesn't work, just getting rid of the bums and their shitholes will be a really big improvement. Cleaner air; better class of people

Surely even you will admit that the MonValley will be so much better off when without those worthless bums or any of their useless old shitholes. Let the Japanese make the steel; they know how to do it right. Those bums don't need their shitholes to go get drunk; once the the shitholes are gone they can STAY drunk -- and talk about "job killers" and "conspiracies."

There really isn't any problem. Just fill in those useless old shitholes. That will get rid of the bums in them for good. Once the bums and their shitholes are all gone, everything will be alright. Not just for Clairton, but the whole MonValley and the world in general.

Please disregard Ras. I agree with your gram, but Ras will not. He likes to talk and not do anything about it. Oh, and watch, because if you disagree with Ras, he will call you a bum who only likes to get drunk.

But I totally agree with your Gram, let's stand up and do something rather than just complain. I have been trying to get Ras to work with me in this effort but he says that nothing can be done.

Thirty years of history demonstrate the futility of trying work with US Steel or the USW. Nor is there any merit in trying to do so. The solution is simply to get rid of them.

Quit handing them permits for upgrades they have no intention of doing, let their operating license expire and cut off their government life support. Those useless old shitholes won't surive sixty days in open competition. Once they are consigned to dynamite and the wrecking ball then "forward movement" can be something more than a euphemism.

As long as the MonValley is willing to carry those useless old shitholes new industry is locked out and the economy is locked down. Fill in the shitholes and that will et rid of the bums in them too. Once they are gone, everything will be alright. They caused the problem in the first place; why should anyone else get stuck with their check?
