The Unity Group of Clairton has started an "Adopt-A-City Street Program" to keep the streets of Clairton free of litter.

This is a volunteer program to help the city government keep the streets clean.

Doing these projects helps bring the community together while giving yourself a great sense of accomplishment. Get out and meet your neighbors who care.

We are setting an example; help us spread the word!

Please see the information in the link below on how YOU can participate.

What street are the Pit Bull fights on? I'll adopt that one. Want to get a taste of the action. Score a few points on each of the Pit Bull throw downs.

And she must be master degree lady. Look, darling, master degree lady. The smartiest pants since Stephen Hawkins, they say. What do you think, darling? Should I hate her?

Evidently Ms. Smartypants is an educated woman. Now I really hate her.

It is Steven Hawking, Einstein!
Apparently all of you idiots enjoy living in filth, but that is what pigs do. Thank God that somebody cares about cleaning up this town. I for one am tired of cleaning up your used needles and condoms in front of my house.

Well then, quit turning tricks in front of your house and put your needle in the waste basket after you inject. Problem solved and the streets are now cleaner.

Chalk another problem solved to Heloise, beyotch.

I find it fascinating that there are many people on this site who go out of their way to make so many negative comments about Clairton. Why? Do you feel like more of a man/woman by doing so. Sure there are problems in this town, but they're not as bad as you are making them to be. I think that most of you have been brainwashed all of your life about towns like Clairton, Duquesne, McKeesport etc., that you don't have a brain left in your head to think on your own. Quit being a follower and start being a leader. And while your at it, just leave your negativity for something else, because quite honestly you're accomplishing nothing but making yourself look like a fool.

Well said Electra Woman, It's good to see someone who cares making intelligent comments.

Code Efforcement Officer: He should be qualified person, how did he get his job without certification? It SHOWS!

The streets and road ways are a disgrace to all people, I wonder if the Mayor or Council Members ride around their town and notice this? I have my doubts!

Some people maintain their property, some never did, its a SLAP in the face, for those people who own their homes, the RENT SLUM LORDS should be held accountable.

I never like the approach of (My way or the highway), but in this case, it should apply.

1. I am not your attorney, physician or hat blocker. This is just a summery of my experiences. I have volunteered to clean the streets where I lived for many years. I did the same when I lived in Wilson-Clairton years ago. I use a broom and bucket and also a a rubber gripper claw on a handle. I recycle and pay to get rid of the trash. I never ask or accept any money or gifts for doing it.

Call the city where you live and ask if you are allowed to clean the sidewalks, edge of street, right of way, etc. Get something in writing that says you can or that you are allowed to do it without getting permission. Many times local or county or state code/ laws say anyone can clean up trash in public rights of way like sidewalks, but can't ask for money or many not be insured by governments. The police, government etc need to know you are doing this so you are less likely to be arrested.

2. Have some kind of home owner and /or personal insurance in case you are sued. You may be required to be bonded by government. Talk with your insurance people.

Wear official/ approved Safety vest or gear so you can be seen and it may be required by Insurance and government. While cleaning donít carry any money or jewelry or valuables or too many Identity cards/ credit cards in case you are robbed or lose things or attacked by angry beggars. Give speeding trucks and cars the right of way. They are bigger than you and can hurt when they hit you!

Ask the local government what times you can clean or make cleaning noise with broom, walking, chewing gum. Usually itís from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

3. Please, try not to use powered leaf blowers, powered grass trimmers, powered edgers or anything using power unless you HAVE INSURANCE and PERMISSION. There are cranky, tired and angry people out there that will complain about noise and pebbles damaging their cars and homes and themselves even if it is not true. Manual cleaners are best and less noisy and usually don't kick up too much stuff.

While cleaning donít argue with people, donít get angry, don't talk with too many people, keep your conversations short, NEVER say you are an official or staffer or Block Watch member or police unless you really are! Don't give away too much personal information. If anyone has a problem with neighbors or uses you as a sounding board for their problems then apologize and go back to cleaning. Youíre just a private resident getting some exercise while cleaning up area.

Some will not want their area of the sidewalk clean and will call the police, fire dept, relatives, your apartment manager, your relatives, and your school to stop you or just ruin your day. Some folks believe if their street gets cleaned up then they will have to pay higher property taxes or they will have to clean up their messy yards or you could get hurt on their property and sue them.

You are not the default or official Trash Collectors, garbage men, recycling station, trash haulers, city officials, politicians, etc. You are a concerned unpaid resident doing a simple task and getting exercise in process. If you need time off for any reason then do it! If you are getting to angry or upset about your cleaning then take off time or stop! Be safe and thank you for helping out.

5. Most of the folks that I know who volunteer to clean, like myself, donít own much if anything and are on government income that canít be taken away by lawsuit. We have time on our hands to clean. The more property, especially uninsured property you have, the more dangerous it is to clean up your neighborhood. Again, I am NOT your attorney, lawyer, physician, veterinarian, or yoga instructor! Be safe!

6. Again, Iím not your lawyer, plumber or rug cleaner. When volunteering to clean up the neighborhood, some people will want to put their trash in your bucket or bag. Many donít pay their trash collecting bill. The amount got too large in some cases and I stopped allowing it. They then dumped their trash in the street or once even threw it at me. They may try to force you to pick it up or even dump it on your property. You may be forced to clean it up or call the police to stop the behavior. You will need proof (((sort through trash for envelopes etc with addresses))) who it belongs to and don't dump it back on their property or they may get you arrested or fined. Some threatened to sue me, an unpaid volunter, and made up nasty false stories, and even called the police when I refused to pick up their trash.

7. Please think hard before cleaning up lots, empty or abandoned, or property with residents Ďtoo sick or old to clean it themselvesí. Get written permission and good lawyers and witnesses who will show up in court to side with you. People can claim you destroyed their prized dandelion patch or removed their rare and expensive pet moss off of their sidewalks and sue you. If you take any money, gifts, cookies, gift cards, pets, slightly used trash, or anything other than compliments then people may try to extort you to keep cleaning up their trash or lawns for free forever. If you clean up a place or street then people will grow to rely upon you and expect even demand you continue to clean. A volunteer not under contract is can be a nice thing when it comes to controlling your time, money and energy.
