I don't think either side is to "blame" for the closing, it's just a sad sign of the times. Good luck Shelley and Lori.

Once again, the residents lose out. I am sure the City Council could have done more to keep this restaurant if they wanted. It will be sad to see them go.

The art of negotiation for small businesses is what this lousy city council members refuses to do.
Remember this come election time.

If as City Manager Parrish says "We're perfectly fine with the current arrangement, and we're not trying to raise their rent or anything like that," , then why are they? Mayor Delach states that the owners got a renovated building at a discounted rate! That is not quite accurate. This building was an eye sore for more years than I can remember. Many doubted Shelley Doonan's vision for the building. The renovations were done with many hours of sweat equity by family and friends. Everthing inside this building is a result of Shelley's vision. Any money from CDBG funds paid off in the employment of local people and sales tax revenue. The city has a track record of NOT working with business in Covina. Look no further than the empty lots at San Bernardino Road and Citrus Avenue. The city is losing a gem, shame on them.

Way to go Covina. Drive the business out during these hard times. Now there will be another empty building for the taggers to hit and the homeless to invade when it starts raining and getting cold.Maybe The Well on San Bernadino Rd can move in and you can give them a permitt to gamble.Better yet how about a strip club, that would rake in the dough for Covina. Then the Covina cops and city officials would not have to go far after work to relax.

My sentiments exactly - there has to be a way for us to get control of our cities, state, & country government - these politician that work for us are just not doing their jobs. It's all about greed and corruption.

This is just another example of how out of control redevelopment has gotten. These cities own way too much property. They take no risks because you and I as taxpayers get to bail them out when they fail. It is the old saw "those who can do, those who can't teach" but in this case those who can't do work for government.

Agreed, they finally have someone in there who makes a go of it and the City of Covina shoots them down. Shame one them. Hope they are able to move to another location, close by (not in Covina) so we can still enjoy them.

They are doing the right thing by closing. The taxpayers do not need to subsidize any business.
Now if we could get all the car dealers to pay back their taxpayer loans and other redevelopment perks the state might not be in as bad of financial shape as they are. Most redevelopment agencies are a complete failure that mishandle the taxpayers money.

Way to go City of Covina! Off Citrus was the only sophisticated restaurant around for miles. You won't appreciate what you have until you realize that you have to go either to Pasadena or Claremont to find anything similar.
sad to see them go

Well I am sorry to hear this. If the Delach in Covina is any relation to the one in Azusa then I can see why this happened. Money talks with them.

Way to go Covina! Losing another great business!! I agree with Disgusted in San Bernardino. Let's open up another bar/strip club, give them a liquor license and then the Covna cops can have a new hang out! Sorry to see you go, Off Citrus, but you will be better off out of Covina unfortunately. Reestablish somewhere where you will be appreciated!
