If you guys were to open your heart and just be thankful you do not need any of the "Free" stuff I am sure you will be a lot more happier instead of having to vent on the tribune website. One point is correct,I to get mad when I see anyone who is on welfare have and an expensive car, cell phone, and nails done. Those are the ones I get frustrated with, but not the kids...I feel bad because some of them don't have a chance. Cato, What you said was just plain ignorant. I could care less what color they are, if they are here illegally they need to leave. Taxpayers can barely afford to take care of their own families, footing the bill for someone else who does not belong here is more than should be expected. Not to mention that many of the fathers of these illegal families is getting paid cash, NOT PAYING TAXES and still taking money from the system. If you don't understand that, there is something seriously wrong with you or you are in some way benefiting from this situation.

Who said that all the kids gaining from this are Illegal or from parents who are not workin? Were you there? Did you see all the kids smiling when they knew they didn't have to go to school with nothing? Something seriously wrong with me? you have no idea who I am, just like you have no idea who these kids are. So if you want to talk about something is wrong with someone, it would be someone who has no clue what they are talking about...like you for example.

Mexicans are famous for their academic achievement and work ethic, right? All those free notebooks and pencils will end up in the trash while they buy more hot cheetoes and pepsis at their local 7 11. Haven't you heard? Mexicans are the new Negro! Those supplies should go to Asian children; at least they would make good use of them.

No kids in California need back to school supplies. Our public elementary schools (and many middle and high schools) do not require kids to come with ANYTHING. We provide the pencil boxes, crayons, glue, scissors, rulers, pencils... everything!!! The teachers are even expected to give the kids paper and a pencil to do the homework on, if not the parents just tell the teacher, "Oh little Javier couldn't do his homework because he didn't have any paper or a pencil"
I'm all about helping parents out that have fallen on hard times and don't normally require handouts. How long do we let them rely on handouts before we hand out at b-ch slap and tell them to get their crap together? I agree they need to be given birth control instead.
A lot of times these events are filled with mouchers that can afford to buy their own crap but love a good handout instead. Everyday now I reconsider my choice of being a democrat.

They are all on free lunch so they can just throw it away and eat this crap after school when they walk to 7-11 with 7 bucks. And I agree, a majority of them lose all this stuff before the use it. There are usually a select few that really appreciate and take advantage of their free supplies.

HV...You really need to pay attention when you read, "if they are here illegally" does NOT mean the same thing as "all the kids gaining from this are Illegal", and when I wrote "you", that means anyone reading my post. My you sure are defensive, you sure like to manipulate someone's words! Typical response when anyone comments on how our laws should be followed regarding this subject. I am not claiming I know anything about these kids, I am talking about facts regarding the SGV on this subject. I would say you didn't know if these kids were illegal or if their father's worked, unless you had them filling out questionnaires including these topics, which I highly doubt.

There are usually a select few that really appreciate and take advantage of their free supplies. I worked at CVUSD years ago at a few of the elementary schools. I saw first hand how the kids getting the school provided lunches threw mostly the healthy foods (fruits and veggies) in the trash before they would sit down to eat. Many of these kids were on the free lunch program. AGAIN, don't know if they were illegal, but parents certainly were claiming they had very little income. The neighborhoods were not in poor areas either.

I think they should charge these items a couple of dollars so that the kids realized that these school supplies cost money. Instead they think everything is free and would not value it.
