I work at this hospital as a nurse but, thankfully, I am not part of the union. Our patient to nurse ratio's are state mandated NOT union mandated! As a nurse, if I or any other nurse cannot care for a maximum of 5 patients (less for step down & specialty units) in a 12 hour period, we have a problem! I have worked here more than 15 yrs and I don't have a complaint. The union made all of these promises to the nurses just to get into the hospitals yet they knew that those promises could not be met. Now that the hospital is refusing to bend to such offers, the union blames the hospital. How about the union be responsible for the promises it made and let the money come out of their pocket? The hospital may have made $20 million in revenue but they have obligations & bills to pay & must keep a certain amount in the bank at all times as capitol on loans. The nurses that are complaining about 24hr lift teams are just plain lazy!! They can turn their patients with help from CNA's or other nurses but are too damn lazy & want someone else to do their 'grunt' work. It's an absolute shame that the union is in here & making the hospital sound so bad just for the almighty dollar. Nursing is about taking care of people. If you are here for the paycheck only then please GET OUT!! Unions don't belong in hospitals. If we strike, how can a nurse say she is a nurse for the right reasons and then walk out on his/her job just because they don't get a lift team or don't have employer matched contributions for a year??? Selfish, selfish, lazy people!! I'm so disgusted with the union & the way it makes the hospital look bad. I love where I work and I love being a nurse. It's about helping people, taking care of the sick and making a difference in someone's life in a positive way. Shame on the union for having to slander the hospital just to TRY and make themselves seem so strong.

I also work at this hospital and from veronica's point of view, it is very clear that she is for the management. I am not pro union at all, never liked the union....but I condone what the management is doing to everyone....asking for a lift team & the employer match retirement is not being selfish..it is called taking care of yourself because you cannot take care of others when you don't take care of yourself. We don't have a labor mandated 30 minutes break....you might say someone is covering you...yeah someone who has 5-6 patients of their own so that is a clear violation of the staffing ratio, right? Most of the time, while having lunch, you get up and clean someone's "poop" & go back to eat...management does not even realize that & don't appreciate us for that.

I just want to correct you that the RNs are not walking out & I believe they gave the 10 day notice. And also on that staffing ratio that it is state mandated...yes it is state mandated but CNA was the one who lobbied for it that Gov Arnold tried to repeal but CNA fough for it again.SO if you work in the hospital, you too benefit from what the union does.Athough I don't like unions, I do appreciate what they do.

Hmmmmmm ... I was at the hospital all day yesterday and certainly never saw 200 picketers. I counted maybe 30 - maybe 35. And strangely enough, most of them didn't even look like employees - they were strangers brought in by the union in a bus! What do THEY know about Citrus Valley Medical Center? What right do they have to carry around signs bashing us? They only know what the union thugs tell them. I believe if I was an RN I would be absolutely embarrassed to be represented by a union that says they're only interested in "patient care" and "patient safety." The sticking points on the contract HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH PATIENT CARE - they have to do with compensation, MONEY, for the nurses. Sure - we'd all like to be paid a little more. No - we're not happy about having our retirement matching on hold for a year. BUT WE HAVE A JOB! WE HAVE A RETIREMENT! WE (ALL EMPLOYEES) ARE PAID WELL AND IN KEEPING WITH THE COMMUNITY STANDARD FOR THE JOBS WE HOLD! I think the bigger question that should be asked is what does the union do with the union dues they collect? Do they ... make a retirement plan for the nurses?(NO). Do they .. have an educational fund for nurses?(NO) Do they ... offer to supplement the nurses income since they feel they are so inadequately compensated?(NO). Maybe, just maybe, they use the dues to pay their own union people AND to "buy" politicians (look at Congresswoman Judy Chu's campaign contributers - SO MANY UNIONS! NEVER KNEW THERE WERE SO MANY! She was supposed to be here and speak yesterday -don't know if she did but it's certainly clear that she is "owned" by the unions). They can then get legislation passed that allows for the creation of MORE UNIONS! Does this make sense to ANYBODY?

I thought nurses were professionals. As professionals, I surely would think that they could speak for themselves and work with their managers directly. I am embarrassed for those who feel like this is beyond their capabilities and therefore need a union thug to represent them.

Oh - and by the way - the CVMC RN who feels like they are abused because they sometimes get called when they are in lunch or on a break. Didn't anyone ever tell you that nursing is not a 9-5 job with a nice 1 hour lunch break at a fancy restaurant and water cooler breaks throughout the day? You are a HEALTH PROFESSIONAL in a HELPING PROFESSION. This sometimes means a shorter lunch or a call during a break. Buck up and be the professional that you signed on to be when you went to nursing school!

For those of you who feel we are not fighting for the right reasons aren't really on the floors. There are many of us who do direct patient care and when we are on our breaks or our co-workers are we are out of ratio! This puts our patients at risk and there have been situations where patients lives have been in danger because of this. Open you eyes and look around ... Can you care for 10 patients realistically in M/S while someone takes a break. This could be your family member who needs something for pain and meds are delayed because you are to busy. It's not all about money and these nurses aren't lazy.
As for the Rally there were over 100 nurses and they were CVHP employees. Just to qualify myself I've been an employee for over 20 years and we need to STAND UP FOR OUR PATIENTS!!

I love working at CVHP. I would never strike, and abandon my patients. I am here for the patients. The hospital is fair and I love it.
