If the working nation funds food stamps, why should we be paying for people to purchase junk food? What's next? Should we pay for their alcohol too?? All junk food does is raise healthcare prices in the long run and guess what -- we pay for that too!

I was at Walmart just last week. A cashier had a couple come through with their food stamp card as they went ahead of me and purchased thirty packs of the twenty four cans of Mountain Dew for over two hundred dollars. The cashier brought up how the assistance program would be doing away with junk food on it by the end of the year and the customers snapped on him asking how children would do without junk food.

At this point I was insulted as they started tearing into the cashier and spoke my mind telling them children didn't need that junk and if they could afford to sit at home all day and drink that Mountain Dew then they could provide a nutritious meal for their children. The woman rolled her eyes at me and told me she didn't feel she should have to cook at all when all these heat and serve meals were made for her convenience so she could sit around and watch TV all day and the like, or go over and spend time with her lady friends.

Two days ago the same couple came in. Apparently they received a notice for misuse of their food stamps and they were attacking the same cashier for it. He had reported them and they wanted to see his manager. The entire time they were tearing into him they were firing off how they needed that for a family gathering. I'm surprised he stayed as calm as he did when he reminded them he is a tax paying citizen and his duty as such, and in his field that he is to report fraud and misuse. He explained to them how them using a food stamp card that had the name of four people on it from the family did not constitute in them buying pop for fifty or more people.

After they left I encouraged him to report them again and when he wouldn't say a word about the whole situation to me I went home and called the next day reporting them again for their behavior and for admitting they were using their card to feed others and buy more junk food.

These kinds of people really make me sick, and I feel ashamed to be part of the same race.

I blame the misuse of foodstamps on past and current leaders! Why is it that pple think the govt owes them food, housing, and cell phones? Why does the govt continue to support these pple? It makes me so mad when i go to Walmart to buy groceries and I'm buying off- brand food, the woman with the EBT card is buying name brand food and steaks! This country is so backward! You don't work, you're rewarded! Pple who do work are screwed! Our leaders need to reform entitlement programs! I blame those that take advantage and those that enable!

The thing is flat out truthfully.. Capitalism has failed us. When the guy on welfare and food stamps gets less money than a working man the system has truly failed. The government needs to stop the handouts and get the system back on track where the working man is rewarded for what he does. I'm a single guy who doesn't make much but Uncle Sam sure is quick to take 250+ in taxes out of my paycheck every two weeks leaving me with 40 dollars a month for groceries after bills and this isn't right.

They need to make working worth it so that people barely make ends meet on their precious food stamps so that they actually aspire to get a job to have nice things instead of mooching off the system and doing better than the average American family who works.

So your telling me it's wrong for someone to buy drinks or junk food for a cook out they are having? Well guess there will be no cook outs of any type then.

When you go in and apply for food stamps they have you list all those in the household who will be benefiting from the stamps. The amount you get on that card is FOR ALL THOSE YOU LIST WITHIN YOUR HOUSEHOLD BASED ON INCOME. It is NOT meant for all those listed and fifteen to twenty people NOT listed on it. If you can't afford food for your family and go to get assistance, then you shouldn't be hosting big family BBQ's feeding twenty or more people who are NOT listed on that card.

That isn't how the system works, and if you think it's fine to take the tax dollars of people to feed others who can work or get their own assistance, then you are a fine example of a problem in the system.

They shouldn't be having a cookout in the first place, unless of course they are celebrating there new job. Then maybe they should consider they need to eat until that 1st paycheck comes......

Personally, I won't go to Walmart or any grocery store around the 1st of the month. It makes me sick seeing all the junk food, frozen food and pop that is being purchased with food stamps. In my opinion there should be a government food stamp store that carries only vegetables, fruits, dairy products, beans and rice. If you want anything else, work for it.

Actually you do if it is reported for misuse as they launch an investigation for the abuse of the program. You are more than welcome to go to your nearest service building and requesting a copy of the terms you agree to when you apply for food stamps where it clearly states they can reprimand your card and have you pay back anything you've spent when letting others use your card or committing fraud with said card.

I'm sorry you can't be bothered doing any research before you open your mouth and post.

I bet what they were doing is selling the cases of pop for money real cheap.. my sister in law works for a store and did the same thing to a couple buying a lot of pop they were selling it. I'm on the food stamp card I buy food that I need for me and my family a buy one case of pop....you can tell when someone like that is selling it!!!!

You are dumb. If someone is on foodstamps and want to have a cookout then fine. What's wrong with bringing a bag of chips or buns or whatever to a cookout? Last I checked there was nothing wrong with that. No one should starve just because they are on foodstamps if they need help. Not everyone on foodstamps are lazy or druggies. Some people actually need help at times. So don't go bashing everyone on foodstamps.
