Why do the blacks have a holiday to celebrate pride in their race? If there were a white pride day the blacks would cry racism. I hate this doublestandard, its not right. Blacks preach they don't see color but on this day its all about THEIR color. Just looking for opinions from both sides.

Why do we celebrate Independence Day? We were treated like slaves over British rule and just like MLK Day, they too are celebrating their freedom. Granted, MLK did not give them their freedom, but he got the ball rolling. We celebrate these days because they rep freedom.

That's what my gripe is, the double standard of the situations.

Your absolutely right about that fucken double-standard. How you gonna beg and plea for equality, then when you get it, play your race card all the time! It infuriates me too. You'll never see a WET (White Entertainment Television) because the blacks would have an aneurism. The simple fact is that blacks or, let me retort, African Americans, started as slaves in this country. Slaves are, by definition, considered less-than those for whom they work. With that in mind, blacks will always be(even if only subconsciously) associated with that history. They're proud of it when they get a "front seat on the bus". But betch about it when they're stereotyped as chicken and watermelon lovin' ghetto dwellers.
So in the minds of most Americans, it's equality. But in theirs it's superiority because they deserve to be reimbursed for the horrors that their great granddaddys and grandmommas endured from the inception of this country, up until December of 1865 when a majority of the states ratified the Thirteenth Amendment effectively and officially abolishing slavery in the United States.
So in the eyes of most Americans they have been gradually and "completely" paid back from their torment for the last 148 years. In their eyes, I don't think they'll ever feel adequately repaid for their troubles. It's a crutch that millions of African Americans still use to this day. AND I DON'T MEAN ALL AFRICAN AMERICANS. I DON'T CONSIDER MYSELF RACIST! Regardless, for this issue I employ the valuable technique of "mind over matter". If I don't mind, it don't matter.....

We all have ancestors that sacrificed to be here, free. There's just happened to be at the white man's expense. We don't have beef with Britain or the indians, that was the white man's enemy at the beginning. Black people need to get over it, we're all equal, you're no more superior than me bc your ancestors were slaves. My relatives owned plantations, thank mine for bringing you here. You could be starving in the desert like real Africans.

Wow!! Today does not have much to do with race. Today is to celebrate the life of a great man who changed America. His dream was equality, regardless of race. Today is not about celebrating one's race, but celebrating that all men are created equal.

This thread right here, even talking about why we have MLK day or black history month is still why there is racism. Why should it matter to you, let people celebrate what they wish to and just be happy. You celebrate being white and not being judge every day.

We all see situations in our own way. I think its great they celebrate who they are. They celebrate their history witch brings them honour. It admirable. We celebrate our race in the same way with all of our holidays. To have a history month and holiday to celebrate you race I dont think would be a bad thing. However in the process we could recognize that we all hold the power to make the world a better place. Why be so judgemental.
