CIRCLEVILLE - A local nursing home facility is battling a parasite problem in its local facility, but health officials believe the facility is taking the proper steps to eliminate the problem.

Circleville Care and Rehabilitation Center, located at 1155 Atwater Ave., immediately reported a bedbug infestation to the Pickaway County Health Department when it was discovered last week, according to Dr. Vernon Bolender, health commissioner.

However, since bedbugs do not carry disease like other bugs or parasites, it is not considered a reportable health issue monitored by the health department, he said.

"They contacted the health department early last week and talked to Becky Levernier, our interim director of environmental health," Bolender said. "They contacted an exterminator, which Becky verified as a reputable firm that was qualified to deal with the problem, and we believe they are dealing with the situation as best they can."

Though Bolender said there is no sure way of knowing where the bedbugs came from, it is believed they were unknowingly carried in by a visiting family member of one of the facility's residents.

"They don't cause disease, but they do bite," Bolender said. "Because of that, they can cause a rash or minor infection due to scratching, and of course they tend to cause a panic among employees and family members."

Well if they think that, what about the same bug after sucking blood on one patient then going next door feasting on another person the vext night? It seems its possible to tranfer pathogens over easily since it the bugs saliva that numbs you while you sleep so u cant feel its bite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_bugs

Middle Easterners, too.

Our federal government keeps ignoring the problem.
Maybe they think the masses shouldn't complain about a silly little bed bug. The state and federal government has already declared it a "non-reportable health issue" meaning they are not going to track it.
