ALERT: High-Tech Hookers Target Tri-State Suburbs

Janeatte Frazier arraigned Friday on charges of passing a bad check and grand theft.

MIDDLETOWN — The chairwoman of Monroe's Fourth of July committee was arrested Friday on charges she tried to scam a credit union out of $5,100 in February.
Janeatte Frazier, 32, was arraigned Friday, April 4, in Middletown Municipal Court on charges of passing a bad check and grand theft. Both charges are unrelated to her involvement with the committee.

An employee at Midfirst Credit Union called police Feb. 12 after Frazier allegedly deposited a $5,100 personal check from Stacy Meizinger into accounts at the credit union and then promptly withdrew it. The $5,100 check later was returned with a stop payment on it, according to the police report.
Meizinger told Winters she'd given Frazier the check and put the stop payment on it after Frazier told her she was worried her sister had stolen her identity. Meizinger said Frazier wanted the check to put in her account to see if her sister would try to steal it, according to the police report.
This isn't the first time Frazier's been charged with passing bad checks.
"She's even on probation for that," Winters said. "She won't get off probation until Nov. 13, 2008."
Bob Bretland, the treasurer of the Fourth of July committee, said he handled contributions to last year's event and doubted Frazier could have taken money.
"I paid most of the bills," he said. "I'm pretty sure everything's on the up-and-up."
Bretland said the committee ran an ad in the Journal thanking last year's contributors and no one contacted him to say they contributed but weren't included in the list.
He urged anyone with concerns about whether their contributions were received to contact the committee by writing to P.O. Box 42, Monroe, OH 45050.
Frazier is being held in Middletown City Jail on 10 percent of a $10,000 bond and is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, for a preliminary hearing.
Bretland said her involvement was key to the event's success in its inaugural year and he hoped her absence won't hamper the group's efforts this year.
"It's an unfortunate thing," he said. "She worked hard. She was on it every day last year."
