I have a lot of Oakes MFG equipment. The green glass piece I believe you are talking about is a chicken water unit. It should have a raised section in the middle that a mason jar of water sat on, allow water to flow out as the level dropped below the rim of the jar. An earlier version had a metal ring with 3 leg that sat on top of a plain plate and functioned much the same way. The earlier version was also made in pink glass. The Scale talked about was made in several versions looking much the same except for where the name was stamped and if it was painted. Other items made were metal baskets for collecting eggs, incubators, etc. I have one of their catalogs used for ordering also. Hope this all helps.

I have an egg scale that could have belonged to my grandparents (I am 64)and was wondering how old it is. It is red with measurements marked by red, blue, yellow, and green colors. I really like it and will keep it but just want more information. Thanks for whatever you can give me.

We just build a new coop and I'm so happy that I have my grandparents Large, galvanized Oakes feeder. The bottom pan where the chickens peck has rusted out in spots... and I know, don't gasp, but we affixed a circle board to the bottom and have painted the whole thing red! Mainly to stop the rust. It means so much to me to have my grandpops feeder. My uncle (who was born in 1946) says he just always remembers it being in the coop! It's big,, it will hold 50+ pounds of feed

I, too have one of the Depression Green "watering bases" as described previously. It is 5 1/2" across and 1 1/4" deep with the raised section in the center. Once again, the question...does anyone have an idea of value OR is there someone currently interested in purchasing these items? Please write back and let me (and the others know). Thanks for your time.

<quoted text>The dish was probaly made in Greencastle, Ind,. Might try and goggling it and see what comes up. Lived in the tipton area from 1958 to 1977, and can't really remember where or what it was. Might contact the Tipton BBB or Chamber or Commerece. Good luck, my grandmother had a bunch of this glass, and it was beautiful.
I have one of those dishes too. I did find a little about it on the net years ago. It was a free dish that was given to all the customers when they came in for business. It was for the purpose of advertizing their company. My mom was born in Tipton, IN and she said she got it there as a customer. I found a price for this dish a few years ago on the net and it was going for $25.00. My aunt is 93 and she said she remembers the company but can't remember what they made.

Over the weekend, at an estate sale in northern Kentucky, I purchased a green depression glass advertising dish from the Oakes Mfg. Co. Inc., in Tipton, Ind. I have searched it online and have found nothing about it. Does anyone know anything about this company? What did it produce? Is it still in business? I would appreciate any history regarding the company.

I have one also. Graphics are Model 162, Made in USA, with RED OAKES centered in bottom ash door. Can't find any info. Tipton Historical is no help. They advise Google name. Have you had any luck?
