Obvious maybe, maybe not. He had tossed in a gas canister of some kind when he entered, he was wearing a gas mask.(Advantage 1). People were coughing, screaming, jumping out of the way once he started firing into the ceiling, and the audience. Here's the problem of taking that first shot. People will be pushing, stepping over you, on you your kids to get away. The shooter appeared to have on a bullet proof vest like swat members wear (advantage 1), if you can see at all you will have to get him in the head, arms or legs when you fire or risk drawing return fire if you miss.

With a .357 you have only 6 bullets before reloading, he has a shot gun, a rifle (mass murderers love automatics or semi autos) and auto handguns with extended magazines.(Killer advantage 3, 4, and 5) I respectfully suggest you upgrade your firearm to at least a .45 auto with extra magazines before shooting at someone armed with this many guns. You have to ask yourself does the killer have accomplices behind you or above on the second level in the theater who could return fire when you shoot. If you shoot at the killer are you prepared for return fire coming in toward you and any children that are near you?

For the rest of these racist, misogynist armchair cowboys who think they could have saved the day, I doubt you could win at playing paint ball without shooting yourself or your own team members. I really wonder what will be found in your basements and bunkers when the day comes. Maybe this is the kind of business Rogersville really needs, a training center for people to be taught when and how to safely and properly defend themselves with guns under any conditions and circumstances before they get a gun carry permit. Of course that sort of training is very helpful to mass murderers too.

OK Rambo you impressed all of us with your knowledge but I don't know why you singled me out to talk down to I never said anything about engaging the guy. I said my son carries a 357 and so do I, we have SP101s. I never said anything about saving the day! Actually I don't think anyone else did either but of course you jumped at the chance to let everyone know how trained you are, hope it puffed out your chest

The cops know they couldn't make it thru the first day trying to do this. They wouldn't have a home to go back to at the end of the day, and if they did, could they ever walk out that door again? Politicians can say anything they want, it won't happen. The thing to worry about is all the oxidizer in the bullets you buy. The powder goes bad after a certain amount of time,7-10 years. You can never collect all the guns, but they can make it so you don't have anything to shoot thru them. Thats where you need to focus the worry. With out ammo, all you have is an exspensive stick to throw.

FACTCHECK:
*A chain email that we debunked back in 2009 is making the rounds again. But nothing has changed in more than two years that would make the message any more true. Obama wouldn’t be able to “bypass” Congress, as the author of this email claims. All international treaties that the U.S. agrees to require the approval of two-thirds of the senators present before the treaties can be ratified. Those would surely be tough votes to get if the treaty banned all firearms. And even in the unlikely event that a treaty banning firearms managed to get through the Senate, it would almost certainly be struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled just four years ago that the District of Columbia’s own ban on handguns violated residents’ Second Amendment rights.
http://factcheck.org/2012/06/still-no-interna...
SNOPES:
* U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has not signed, nor has the U.S. Congress ratified, a United Nations small arms treaty. In fact, such a treaty hasn't even been drafted yet; it's merely a concept which is currently in the discussion phase.(An Arms Trade Treaty Conference is taking place at United Nations Headquarters in New York throughout the month of July 2012.)
* No such treaty could "bypass the normal legislative process in Congress," as all treaties to which the U.S. is a signatory must first be approved by a two-thirds vote of the U.S. Senate before they are considered to be ratified and binding.
* The putative United Nations arms treaty referenced in the Reuters article linked at the end of the example reproduced above has nothing to do with restricting the sale or ownership of guns within the United States. The aim of a potential U.N. arms treaty is to combat the illicit international trade of small arms by "tightening regulation of, and setting international standards for, the import, export and transfer of conventional weapons" in order to "close gaps in existing regional and national arms export control systems that allow weapons to pass onto the illicit market." Even if such a treaty came to pass, U.S. rights and laws regarding the sale and ownership of small arms would still apply within the United States.
* The President of the United States cannot enact a "complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations." The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States, and in the 1957 case Reid v. Covert, the U.S. Supreme Court established that the Constitution supersedes international treaties ratified by the U.S. Senate.
There is no "legal way around the 2nd Amendment" other than a further amendment to the Constitution that repeals or alters it, or a Supreme Court decision that radically reinterprets how the 2nd Amendment is to be applied.

I am not the one paranoid and screaming am I? I'm not angry with them even though idiots keep electing idiots who fight for more gun rights than they fight to keep jobs in the US. I don't want to go to war with my government. It's broken and needs to be fixed not disposed of. More guns won't solve our violence problems.
If this law abiding lunatic could purchase 6000 rounds of ammunition and several hundred round clips and 3 or 4 guns in less than two months, what else has your gun lobby legally allowed into the hands of killers or terrorists? We can't buy over so many grams of Sudafed a month. We can't doctor shop for pills or even buy too much fertilizer without being red flagged on some data base somewhere but in the US, thanks to the gun lobby, anyone can buy as many weapons or as much ammunition as they want from individuals, gun shops and stores. You do realize lunatic anti government militias, gangs and sleeper cells are manipulating our weaknesses every second of every day. Be thankful for government agencies that stop most of those armed lunatics before they can shoot up a shopping mall or start their personal war.
All you can think about is yourselves. My guns! I want! My rights! What about other peoples rights to be able to sit in public and watch a movie with their friends without it being their last hour on earth? No one gives a flying hot fart about your hunting guns and side arms but do you have to keep fighting for the lunatics rights to easily obtain military weapons and bucket after bucket of ammunition?

Only trained law enforcement professionals have the expertise to safely carry guns.Com mon people are not as intelligent as government employees therefore these citizens must be protected from their own stupidity. I am just thankful that our government continues to increase it's control of our lives in order to allow us to refrain from the labor of providing or thinking for ourselves.

me a lot more than that lunatic. There's a lot more people like you than there are of them. Do you tree huggers support knife control or big stick control or maybe rock control? All of these can be used to kill someone. The very ones that support gun control promote the murder of the unborn yet the protest the death penalty for a pedophile. You will probably have a sickness that will not end. Television today; Hellmans Mayonnaise is made with cage free eggs... several fast food restaurants are going begin to only use pork raised in a group setting....politicians calling to ban guns....news reports trying to determine who is at fault for the mass killing(apparently it wasn't the shooters fault).

Well here in Hawkins county, if you purchase 4000 rounds of ammo over the internet . There are 3 black suburbans full of ATF agents who will be right at your door when its delivered. They will be polite, but they will also want to know what its for. Been there. So , I have no idea how that guy got away with 6000 rounds. As far as fertilizer goes, its got oxidizer in it now . It won't exsplode. You have to know how to seperate the 34-0-0 from the oxidizer to do anything with it. So you can buy as much as you want of that stuff. Bullets now have a shelf life. They also mix a time release oxidizer in it. Bullets will lose power and go "bad". Takes anywhere from 6 to 10 years. Most all fertilizers, black powders, bullet lots and just about everything else you can shoot, exsplode or use to make drugs ,has a chemical marker in it. This marker can be used to trace it from manufacturer to end user. If you purchase it with a credit card, or are on a camera when checking out, they can follow the purchase.

Painting with the big brush again? I know you're scared or you wouldn't cling so tightly to the idea more weapons can save you from a world you can't control or understand.
Fearful people will use any mass gun shooting to scare you, to sell you more guns and more ammunition, at a higher price. They will scare you to vote for their candidate. I want everyone to count the number of times they've had to shoot an attacker or intruder they weren't related to or didn't know. Now count the times you had to open fire on bank robbers, rapists, mass murderers in this area.
They will give the impression large armed mobs are roaming the streets to make you believe you're not safe without more guns but the fact is a the larger majority of gun owners here don't face big city, drive by, day to day gun violence. Gun violence, when it happens, occurs during domestic arguments, when people are under the influence. Around here people tend toward shooting and or killing people they know, not total strangers.
Since you mentioned abortion I assume you are a typically gun loving, conservative Christian.(Do you seriously think I will assume you see all life as sacred when we're talking about tools that terminate life?) So tell me what would Jesus be packing if he came back? Glock, Colt, Beretta? Would Jesus flip the switch on a pedophile? I would but I'm the gun owning, pro death penalty liberal you refuse to understand. That scares you so you'll probably go buy another gun so you can sleep at night.
