I THINK ITS WRONG FOR THE POLICE AND THE PRESS TO PUBLISH THE MENS NAMES BEFOR THEY EVEN GO TO COURT TO FIND OUT IF THEY ARE INCENT OR GUILTY.
MORE OR LESS SPEND TAX PAYERS MONEY TO PAY AN UNDERCOVER OFFICER TO CATCH THEY MEN IN A CRIME THAT THE JOHNSON CITY POLICE HAD TO INVENT.ITHINK THEY SHOULD WORK ON SOVEING SOME REAL CRIME LIKE THE DRUG DEALERS AROUND THE PUBLIC LIBEARY WHERE OUR KIDS GO . THEY SAY THAY CAN,T FIND THEMTHE DRUG DEALERS .ALL THEY GOT TO DO IS WALK THROUGH THE PARKING LOT THE
THE DRUG DEALERS WILL FIND THEM.
THE LAST TIME ME AND MY SON WENT THER WE WERE OFFERED TO BUY DRUGS 3 TIMES BEFORE WE COULD GET TO THE CAR .I THINK THE POLICE IN JOHNSON CITY NEED TO WORK ON REAL CRIME INSTED OF INVENTING SOME

Chuckey's a long way from Elizabethton. Not that we don't have our own problems, but Johnson City was named the nation's largest nest of homosexuals for a reason. There've been numerous stings for this kind of thing in J.C. over the past few years & I doubt that this one will be the last.

I thought San Francisco was the area with the most gays. I live between Johnson City, and Bristol, and golly gosh, haven't met a gay person in 5 years. Besides I thought this was about prostitutes. I think they should put the Johns and the whores on the front page of the Johnson City Paper, Bristol Paper, Elizabethton Paper. If you want to play you will have to pay. Martin where were you that you were offered drugs 3 times. In the parking lot at the Johnson City Public Library. I certainly hope when you got home you called the police to report it. I think the money spent to get Johns or whores is money well spent. Prostitution isn't a victum-less (spelled wrong, or looks wrong) crime. Think about the innocent wife at home. It isn't right, pure and simple. Oh well, I have never hired a male whore, I have been lucky to have just enjoyed normal relaltionships in my life. I just can't imagine a man wanting a strangers mouth anywhere on them, it gives me the creeps.

My bad--I assumed this was the same type of sting that they had at Winged Deer Park a year or so ago.
There've always been streetwalkers downtown J.C. & they've never tried to do anything about it.
I'm with you about publishing pics & names. As far as 'martin c' having a problem with that, how does he explain the Police Beats? All arrests are published before court.

They were arrested weren't thay? is good enough to get there names Published!
I have enough confidence in our police who wrist their lives to keep us safe, to know they know an act of prostitution when they see it going down. and that is real CRIME!

You are sooooooo full of crap! I have been to that library dozens of times and I have never once been approached by anyone wanting to sell me drugs nor have I ever seen anyone engaged in any type of activity that appeared to be a drug deal. From the number of grammatical errors in your post I would find it very surprising if you have ever opened a book much less graced the doors of any library!

Let's not get nasty with the new year approaching--'martin c' said that he was taking his son to the library which I find commendable. There are better ways of getting your point across that don't include name-calling & abuse.
I was taking my computer to get it fixed a year or so ago, & a woman tried to engage me in convo in the parking lot. I thought at first that I knew her, then I realized that she was panhandling. The computer shop is just across the street from the library. Downtown J.C. is a hotbed of lowlifes & homeless. I think the police have always turned a blind eye to it just as they do in Elizabethton. Something will probably be done when someone gets hurt.

So, what is your solution? Have our officers arrest all the panhandlers, vagrants, and trespassers forcing them to have to clog our already overtaxed jail system and force the homeless to have to pay fines for which they have no money to pay?

Is it the police departments fault that the Salvation Army, the Haven of Mercy, the Melting Pot, and the medical clinic for the homeless are all in close proximity to the downtown area? Are these fine organizations placed so as to be convenient to the homeless or do their locations cause the large number of homeless people to influx the downtown area? Are the areas properly zoned by our city leaders so as to protect the people who frequent our downtown and who run businesses in the downtown area?

As I hope you can see, it is easy to blame the police for all of our ills, but often times these views are because of a simplistic approach (or a lack of any approach) to problem-solving. We are so engrained with having to place blame that our law enforcement agencies are often the easy targets. I hope in the future that you will look beyond the easy target and truly delve into the root of the true problem.

You obviously aren't familiar with any of my postings for the past year--I have never dissed our police force or sheriff's department as they have come to my aid several times as has 9-1-1. I can't speak for Johnson City as I haven't lived there in 30+ years, but I have the utmost respect for Elizabethton's finest.
I also don't pretend to have any solutions. I was simply making a comment.

Sorry, sometimes I get carried away defending our boys in blue. It's a lonely stance, so I am glad to see that others exist.

I was expecting more sarcasm, but you've surprised me. I'll settle down now too--yes, downtown areas are more populated with homeless, etc. because that's where the shelters & soup kitchens are. The overhead tends to be lower there than in outlying areas, there's more people out & about & could you imagine the uproar if anyone tried to put one in the suburbs? It's the "not in my backyard" mentality.
Every town has it's homeless, druggies & mental case population. The police may very well be doing all they can to control it but I'll bet it's much like spraying a nest of spiders with bug poison: they scatter for a little while, then come back.

I'll be the first to admit when I am wrong. Fortunately, I don't have to do that too often:)

I agree I have used the Library many times and have never seen or been approached by anyone either. But on the subject it is called freedom of the press. they go to the police station and ask for all arrest records they are the ones that publish them. They just say arrested for not

I don't believe you were offered any drugs @ JC Library, thats just crazy for you to make a statement like that.IF that were to happen, ANY real parent would've automatically called 911 if a person offered them drugs in front of their child the 1st time, let alone 3 times!!
Everyone knows any time someone is arrested it is in the news beats, freedom of the press. If people don't want their name in the paper, don't break the law, plain & simple.

I have noticed several times that the police officer who is often on duty at the JC library will chase away gangs of boys who hang out in the parking lot. I heard him tell one to "get on your bike and leave, NOW."

The Melting Pot is not popular with Munsey members. I know because I go to Munsey. Several times, the pastor has been approached by church members who want the Melting Pot closed down or moved far away. The fine folks at Munsey also wish the John Sevier residents would go away. They don't want "those people" coming to the Wednesday night fellowship meal. As a further way of making them welcome, a police officer is now on duty Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
