Does anyone know if the Redbird baseball and softball teams are going to make up their rainouts, or are the just going to mark them off for the year?

They might as well just cancel the softball season. They have had so many good players quit because of the head coach. Maybe the AD needs to reconsider his choice.

I knew the team had some players leave the team, but I didn't know the reason why.. So they are going to finish the season? What about all the rainout games?

Redbird Baseball is home on Saturday. That is their last home game.

Redbird Softball is home next Monday and Wednesday.

I believe only 1 (non-starting) player has quit the softball team. They are 3-1 in their last 4 games.

Pray for no more rain.

Softball lost 2 starting players, a varsity and a jr varsity, and more are just finishing the season and not playing next year if things don't change. Thats why several didn't try out.

Calvert needs to go for sure! He's only there because he has a daughter coming up soon! He could care less about these players he has now. As a matter of fact, everyone involved in the softball program, J.V. and Varsity coaching wise. They only have their own kids interest. As for the A.D. needing to fire him, I feel the A.D. either needs fired or should just step down! He does nothing but bring kids down! This isn't a parent of a player either. I'm just somebody that played for Glodich and knows exactly how he works!

can anyone tell me why Piersol gets paid for helping coach? Hes only doing it to ensure his daughter plays varsity. why cant wf ever seem to hire coaches that dont have kids on the team?
My point exactly! The people coaching now are only there because of their kids! They could care less about anyone elses. As long as theirs gets to play, that's all they worry about.

Did. Thank you very much. His handling of the girls league the past 2 years at the park was enough for me and my kids. His win at all costs bend the rules to fit his style of play was too much. We've moved to another town with more teams that actually teach the fundamentals of the game not that winning is everything.

Why were there so many girls picked to field a junior varsity team and then they only took part in 4 mini games? I understand the rainout of their tournament and some towns not fielding jv teams but most did and ours were just told they would not be played. If that is the case then why have it at all? Was keeping so many players then not playing them a decision by the head coach, the athletic director, or both? Lot of girls to just sit and get little more than a letter out of it.

That is because the head coach and assistant coach dosent want to stay any longer than the 8 innings of varsty. They can't wait to get the first game over so they can leave and the head coach can go coach his jr high daughters travel team. His priority is with his daughter. God help the redbirds when that group gets in high school

Why do jv players HAVE to be there early for varsty games and watch and cheer varsity players during their games yet varsity players dont have to stay for jv home games? I think varsity should stay and support jv team, out of respect, afterall their all on the same team!!

No point in staying around when they don't play! The jv players that are there for varsity games are there because they were told they might be needed in the game. Herrin was ready to play a junior varsity game, it was even in the paper on the schedule, but Calvert told them they wouldn't play then when they got to Herrin acted like he didn't know they were supposed to. Herrin even had a second field with umpires ready to go for them. Not to mention all the other teams that were ready to play but our girls were denied the chance to cause Calvert wouldn't do it. Most of the varsity girls have stuck around for the few games the junior varsity played.

I wondered if Calvert is still the coach when his kid gets to high school if he will cancel junior varsity games and carry as many players like he has. Then I figured it won't matter cause he'll have her on varsity as soon as she gets there anyway. But he'll have to play nice with all her friends then. Looks like there is gonna be a bunch of freshman on varsity in a year or two.

I hear Calvert has a lot of parents really really mad. I understand that some of them are going on a mission to try to get him out. They have all summer to do it. They have also dug up alot of dirt on him that is public record. I wouldn't let him drive my kids around with his driving conviction in all the surrounding counties. I guess he better hope the skeletons don't start coming out of the closets.

im have sit and read all of these posts and the one thing that i kept thinking is if you feel so strongly about this subject with the softball coach and program, then why wouldnt you just put who you are. if you are passionate about how you feel and brave enough to bash someone continuously then state your name so this person or persons can respond to it. obviously you know him and the coaching staff, and you should have had numerous opportunities to say exactly what you think and havent, so you have resorted to typing anonymously. just curious about that.

I came on here to ask a simple quesion about games and it turns into something else.. But that's alright, everyone has the priviledge to be able to do that, be it under their real name or just a login name.

Just wanted to speak my piece. Calvert was a coach when I had a kid in school and did a great job. He was always encouraging, and did a great job. Sounds to me like you guys can't face the fact that maybe your kid just doesn't cut it. Maybe they should try a little harder in practice, keep their smart mouths shut and respect their coaches and then they may earn a starting position. Give me a break... how many softball games have most of you even played. It gripes me to no end to have people mouth other people about sports when they were bench warmers themselves. Face it people the apple usually doesn't fall far from the tree.
