Anyone give the nature vs nurture debate serious thought?

How do three adopted children raised in the same abusive enviroment turn out so differently?

<quoted text> My experience was not a physically abusive one until I was a teenager and then it was just face slapping because I was trying to fight back at the injustice the only way I could, by being mouthy. Another problem was that my brother's friends would come over and grab me in inappropriate places until I lost it one day and grabbed a butcher knife and threatened to cut the guts out of the worst offender. That put an end to that. My parents were unaware these things happened. I felt like I had to handle things myself. I do feel like these things made me a stronger and better person. Karma is taking care of my brother. As I said my children are wonderful people and we are very close.
Did they back down like cowards? My brother and his friends would do the same. They would come in late with the munchies. I used a hot skillet. They may have laughed at me,they also STFU. Priceless! LOL!

On a serious note. I find it amazing a group of men can torture and rape a woman for hours and deem themselves men. It appears their proud pathological egos disappear once the police start asking questions. They scatter like cowards...

I also find it interesting a group of men felt the NEED to drug one woman.

Somehow that goes beyond cowardice. Gee what could that mean? LOL

Leave it to me to find the humor in a destestable act in the dark side of humanity. LOLLOL

To all the sheep who watched.

The Lucifer Effect raises a fundamental question about the nature of human nature: How is it possible for ordinary, average, even good people to become perpetrators of evil? In trying to understand unusual, or aberrant behavior, we often err in focusing exclusively on the inner determinants of genes, personality, and character, as we also tend to ignore what may be the critical catalyst for behavior change in the external Situation or in the System that creates and maintains such situations. I challenge readers to reflect on how well they really know themselves, and how much confidence they have in what they would or would not ever do when put into new behavioral settings.

This book is unique in many ways. It provides for the first time a detailed chronology of the transformations in human character that took place during the experiment I created that randomly assigned healthy, normal intelligent college students to play the roles of prison or guard in a projected 2 week-long study. I was forced to terminate the study after only 6 days because it went out of control, pacifists were becoming sadistic guards, and normal kids were breaking down emotionally. By telling that story in a new way, as my personal, first-person observation in the present tense, it is presented almost as a screen play filled with ever more amazing twists and turns as the situational forces are pitted against individual will to resist and the collective will to rebel against oppressive authority. In a sense, this study and how I am reporting its narrative, is a forerunner of reality TV, as we see ordinary people up close and personal day in and night out, becoming transformed into something truly disturbing.

To the particular individual who stood there watching them torture me and said this is so wrong. Yes,you were and are right. Nothings changed. I remember you well. And so do "they." "They" remember you as the weakest link. Something I bet they've reminded you of all your life. I remember you tried to leave. They called you a coward after you left. They also dragged your ass back in there to force you to be a part of it. I know how helpless you were. By God you saw what they were doing to me.

In hind sight..I find humor in a group of sadistic cowardly males ignorant enough to call the only other descent human being in the room willing to stand up to cowards ...a coward! Truly priceless!!! LOL

Regardless, you were a part of that. Depending on perspective. It could be said..you're the biggest coward.

Unless of course....

Know this..I may have been the one raped and tortured to say SHIT my brother has done to me and others. You'll always be the one who enabled a rapist to rape.

I'd rather be me a.n.y.d.a.y.

Just about anyone that's from WF knows who you are from all the clues you have dropped on your threads. So Lisa just give it a rest, or take your info to the police. It is a bad thing for your case and reputation to be on here talking crazy. I'm sure your brother Bill is all freaked out from your public ranting, but it is really not doing you any good at all. Sure it sucks that you got rapped by your bro and his friends thirty plus years ago, but you need to think about yourself and just let that shit go, or go to the police.

I encourage you to explore the differences between rape victims and rape survivors. Speaking out is beneficial and empowering to both individual and society.

Any rape victim/surivor's reputation is never tarnished. Shame on you. The dignity of the rapist is the one who is damaged.

Interesting your need to name someone. Perhaps, you should explore the reason those particular names came to your mind! LOL!

Well how does ranting about it on the internet help anyone else, let alone yourself? Wouldn't a better course of action be to maybe go to your doctor or a therapist? You're letting your anger out on an internet forum that they're probably not going to read so I can't see that you're getting your revenge on them, you're just dwelling on it in a very nonconstructive way and are probably just making yourself feel worse about it.
I understand what you went through must have been horrific, but how are you helping yourself in any way?
Also, if you're using American English, pedophile, British English is paedophile. Not pedaphile.

Stockholm syndrome is key to understanding childhood abuse. I was deemed the scapegoat and crazy one in our family. Why? I didn't want to F my grandfather, brother and cousin. I kicked scratched, bit and can knee a man in under a second. Just ask my brother! I have no doubt how angry he was/is at me. He's a putz. I can kick his ass. And did many times. A woman dosent have to be bigger than a man. Just quicker.:) Well that and the use of household products.

Ammonia works the best...:D

This thread is about educating and reaching out to children who need help.

You should also u.n.d.e.r.s.t.a.n.d.

The only thing you, little willy and the brainwashed sheep "taught" me is the malevolence of men. AND how far the wretched will go to "cover" up their wretchedness. Blame shifters.

Are humans more benevolent or malevolent?

Postby Hedonic Treader Fri Aug 24, 2012 9:19 am

Can we quantify human benevolence vs. malevolence? Humans are biologically empathetic and compassionate (mirror neurons), but they are also self-deceiving hypocrites, egoists, out-group haters and sadists. They engage in altruistic punishment and instinctively aid others in distress, but they also torture with surprising ease (Milgram experiments, Stanford prison experiment) and sometimes just for fun (sexual or otherwise).

I know you can't really just subtract one from the other because they are context-sensitive, but if you had to commit to an answer, which is the stronger tendency in humanity, benevolence or malevolence?

Imagine humanity, in its current psychological and cultural conditions, suddenly becomes far more powerful than it is now. Would this create more pleasure than suffering, more suffering than pleasure, or would you think the expectation values are roughly equal?
