Consolidation ok, but no new building! Christopher grade school could be used as the high school. Zeigler two schools could be used, one as the grade school, the second as junior high. Yes Christopher grade school is big enough to handle the all the high school kids. We have to think out side of the box in these hard times! People can't afford more property taxes! Quinn is giving any extra tax money to SIU.

new building or not, no one realizes that consolidation is still going to cost in the MILLIONS to upgrade buildings, new desks, servers, cafeteria upgrades, bathroom upgrades, and so on, not to mention the cost of manpower to move a whole bunch of shit.

I am in full support of a new building and a much better learning environment for the kids. We also need to invest in much better teachers, and hold the ones that don't meet the standards accountable. The cost of doing nothing will be much greater.

So we build the best building money can buy. Hire the best teachers money can buy. Even hire Glenn Poshard to run the school lol. At what Walmart will our kids use all the education at when they are out job hunting? Our tax dollars should be invested in jobs first! I guess it's like what come first the chicken or the egg. The way I see it, Our chickens has no place to lay their eggs at.

First of all, its a zero sum gain when you use tax money to create jobs. Government never has and never will, add more jobs than it takes away. In regards to your point about the kids working at Wal-Mart. The opposite will happen, when you have a better educated population, higher skilled and higher paying jobs will come to our area. I suggest that you read the "Broken Windows Theory". This may be what you and so many others are suffering from.

I disagree, the education is there already. Its not the teachers or the school that is causing kids to not persue careers after high school. It is the kids themselves. I have seen very bright students, get pregnant and drop out of school and work at Subway or Walmart, whatever. I have also seen the exact opposite. If somebody wants a better life, they are going to have to sacrifice and work for it. This new school is going to cost lots of money and that is money the state doesnt have. Illinois is in so much debt already and are not paying their bills as it is. We are already going to be slammed with gas prices and loads of other taxes. It is getting ridiculous. You will be lucky to buy food before long or even put gas in your tank. As for all the people who use medical cards, good luck finding a Dr. to take you with the state not paying for DP pts unless it is charity work.

The new school will cost us millions, but it wont help because the same teachers will still be there. over half the teachers are related either by blood or marriage to the administration or the board. Come on RT do the right thing....Leave

He was slated to get that job from the minute he started at the grade school. Look how fast and who made it happen. You can only blame the school board and their friends. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! When the less than highest qualified is hired and promoted you get exactly what you got!

This soooo has to be Christopher people talking about the consolidation. Have you been in your schools? Ewwww...either a new school would have to be built or Zeigler schools would have to be used. From what I have been told it is Zeigler-Royalton helping Christopher out because your schools are in such bad shape. Zeigler has some great teachers and some that should have been long ago, but trust me GW isn't any better a super. At least RT comes to events and is seen at the school functions.

Maybe we should ask Queen Karla where the money went to maintain the boilers and kill the termites.

I really don't know who would be helping who if the schools consolidated. But it may not be a choice if Pat Quinn has his way.

igripealot, Yes I have been in Christopher schools many times. And they are not in that bad of shape. I bet the schools could buy a new boiler and fix a few problems for less than 20 million. Personally I'm against the consolidation. We can't afford higher property taxes. I know they say it won't raise our property taxes, but we all know it will

I dont agree with your post. I have been in both schools many times and neither has anything to brag about. Both schools have descent teachers and infact, teachers from both schools sub back and forth. We are talking about consolidating and taxes here, not comparing oranges and apples. Taxes will go up and who is going to be paying those taxes? The hard working middle class, the workhorse. If you break the workhorses back then everything goes down with it.

I AM a Christopher Resident and I AM NOT for the consolidation. Reason being, employee's will lose jobs, taxes will go up. Fix what needs to be fixed. You got your one percent tax increase which means thousands for the school districts. Now fix what needs fixing and get over this consolidation thing. VOTE NO in November. If these superintendents who want this want to be in a charge of bigger schools then move to the city and knock yourself out with that. We as the people of Christopher don't need to figure out how to pay anymore taxes. And yes I am employed full time but times are rough and getting rougher

Taxes would not immediately go up. Actually Christopher's taxes would drop to meet with Zeigler and Royalton tax area. It's not a matter of Superintendant's wanting to be in charge of bigger schools its about offering kids a better curriculum and more opportunities. I agree that times are tough and I dont want to pay more taxes but I would like my child to receive a higher quality of education and be more prepared for college. As far as teachers losing jobs, I think job loss would be minimal if any at all.
