Have we forgotten that parents are the number 1 teachers in their childs life? I think they should get statistics on how many students go home to an empty house, how many hours they spend in front of tv's or video games and how many hours they spend reading or doing homework.

And if the school scores poorly and yet your child is doing well...what's that say?

Now that we know the school is doing poorly, what are we (or you) going to do about it?

MissPatti :

Statistics on students performance HAVE been documented for many years. The teachers are now PAID more than they ever have. The teachers, if they want to keep their lucrative counter creative union supported jobs, better find a way !

Poor performing teachers will soon be a thing of the past. Their family or friends connections will make no difference. They all will be tested and their pay will be based on the kids performance. Happening right now at ISBE. The states will begin to lose federal money if they do not comply.

both my boys are honor students. Parents need to be more involved. I know they are tired from work, but your kids are the most important investment you will ever make, besides your 401k and house.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the main reason why Christopher's scores are so low is that they dont discredit the Special Education/Learning Disorder/Behavior Disorder students scores. Every student at Christopher takes the same test where other schools wont allow it. Christopher is being fair and not discriminating and letting every student participate and counting their scores.

Maybe "Amazed" should check into the facts before criticizing the school and the teachers.

They are actually doing better. If you check the interactive report card you will see an improvement. The answer will be from the recent graduates performance at their colleges. I've heard mixed reports. Teaching these techno-junkie kids is a hard task any way you look at it !!

I know Christopher schools is the best around! The teachers at Christopher treats our children, not just as students, but as family! And that means more to me than any state report card.

WRONG! All students take the same standard state tests whether they are in special education or not. A handful of kids arent going to bring the scores down out of 600 students. If you check around, you will see all schools have a special/behavior or learning disorder classroom, actually several of them.

The only difference is, some schools will cheat. They will have the aid in the classroom help/give the kids their answers on the tests. It is required by law that all students tests scores count, not just Christophers. Ever read, No Child Left Behind Law in the state of Illinois student handbook?

No Child left behind has nothing to do with counting Special Education students test scores. You obviously havent read the handbook. Actually, the aides do not give them the answers. The kids sit in the normal classroom and take the test. There are more than a few that fall into the Special Education, Behavior Disorder, and Learning Disorder category. Christopher High School has only 245 students, not 600, so those scores will hurt the overall average. Its obvious that you are just trying to bring down Christopher High School and Grade School and your probably not even from Christopher or went to school there. You are WRONG!

Chritopher lies and says that their population of special ed students are high so the kids dont take the same tests as everyone else....which in turn makes ces scores look better. ever heard of IAA? look at the percentage of students at ces who take that compared to other local schools. christopher needs busted on this. richtard can only cover this up for so long.

What BS! Most teachers are great. It is true that some are not and I could tell you a few but I won't. Yes parents should spend time with their children as we do, but it is NOT the parents' responsibility to "teach" our children academics. That is why teachers are called teachers and payed as teachers. We should teach them about right and wrong and life. Way to much home work is being sent home with our children today. Not enough time for family time and play time. No wonder kids are not doing well on tests, they are sick and tired of school work. They get mad at the parents for making them do home work and all we are doing is picking up the damn slack. As for governor quinn, he has got to be the worst! I agree that teachers should be paid on how well their students do but I do not agree with taking away of the union. And yes this will lead to it so don't wine to me that that is not the case in this "New Law". Teachers has lost their bargaining ship and now that is gone, well just look at California. BTW I have one boy in high honor roll that gets the highest grades in his class for six years straight and another boy who needs help. So I AM on both sides of the fence. One more thing, did you notice I am the only one who is in the district and with children in school at CES?
