Do teens need a curfew at the mall?

There are 76 comments on the Roanoke Times story from Apr 6, 2007, titled Do teens need a curfew at the mall?. In it, Roanoke Times reports that:

“We basically have not had an issue with teens, so our policy is everybody is welcome”

Weekends spent cruising the mall may very well be considered the high school equivalent of a national pastime for teens just looking for kicks or a place to see and be seen. via Roanoke Times

This rule is completely unfair. The business the mall gets is mostly from teens anyways and its discriminantive for them to tell us when and at what time we can spend our money. I'm going to start a boycott in the mall. The first saturday of every month. Then they'll see how much we effect them and maybe they'll finally listen to us. No wonder teens resort to drinking and drugs, there's absolutely nothing else to do, and now they're going to limit us more? It doesn't make sense.

Even though I am 54 years old, I strongly oppose curfews at shopping centers. I hope kids boycot any shopping center that imposes curfews. I also encourge those approaching voting age to be sure to register to vote so they can vote out the old people who make these rules. America is suppose to be a free country.

The mall is private property; there is no right to hang out there. If the management decides that idiot teenagers who aren't going to spend any money anyway are bothering people who are going to shop, they have every right. I'm not sure what Robert means by "I can fight for my country but i can't shop in it?"; the curfew doesn't apply to people old enough to enlist.
unfortunatly, the rule in my town does. it applies for people up to 19. So kids now want to get fake ids just to shop.

If you guys only could understand how immature you sound when you try to present your arguments here. The best reason you can come up with is "so you can spend more time with your friends than at home"? In a couple of years, you're probably NEVER going to be home. Sheesh.

The rate things are going, you guys would have it so you could do what you want, when you want away from home the day you popped out of the womb.

I don't find it fair because I've just started to go to the mall and now we have a curfew for that? I can't even leave the house without an adult, which has to be a family member. Anytime I shop with them I feel as though I'm being rushed. I just started going out with my friend and it's the only entertaining place we can walk to(it's hard to rely on adults for a ride). Not all of us are hoodlums, you know. And no adult here can't say they don't cause trouble no matter where they are. A lot of stores also have mostly teen shoppers, so how will that work out?

Learn your spelling, to start with. Secondly, not all teens are influenced by "peer pressure" that easily. Parents and grown adults resort to drinking and drugs as well so don't fool yourself. You were a teenager once too so don't act like we're the worst people ever.

Go back to bed, America, your government has figured out how it all transpired, go back to bed America, your government is in control again. Here, here's American Gladiators, watch this, shut up, go back to bed America, here is American Gladiators, here is 56 channels of it, watch these pituitary retards bang their fucking skulls together and congratulate you on living in the land of freedom. Here you go America—you are free to do as we tell you! You are free to do as we tell you!

The malls will not care if you boycott them. Especially if you put a time restraint on it. They will assume that you will most likely go in the day before and/or after to get your fix. Speaking of business, how much business do you think you generate for the stores? As far as I know, teenagers who are concerned about this curfew usually don't have vast amounts of money to continuously splurge at the mall.

SO, kids wanting to go to the mall until 9pm translates into "having everything they want"? please... go back to the 1800's or whatever crazy era you are from where its a crime for kids to have fun.
Let's think about this logically... kids have school 5 days a week, followed by homework, sports, etc. and going to bed at a decent hour. A Friday night is one of the most convient times for them to go to the mall, but because of that ridiculous curfew they can't.
And I'm not underage, but I can understand these kids frustrations. Some teenagers are out of control and ruin it for everyone. To everyone who doesn't even live in Roanoke, posting negatively about kids behavior at the mall- how the hell do you know how the kids act here?? You don't. You're basing your assumptions off a few bad apples you've seen at some point or other.
