Obama had an Economic Plan, formed by the best Economists we have, to get this Country back on it's feet. But, because of the Teapublican-controlled Congress opposing EVERYTHING he's tried to do, he's had to change almost all of it , just to get SOME of it passed by Congress!

You say it doesn't work...I say it does, and more so since we have become a consumer driven economy. It is hard to "consume" something when you are broke. Place money in the hands of those with none and they will spend it. That spending stimulates the economy, creating more demand and more jobs..pull money out of the economy and....well, it is awfully hard to spend what you do not have.
In my opinion, that stimulis SHOULD have been about three times larger with NO tax cuts involved. Instead there should have been direct hiring of the unemployed by the government...a WPA style jobs program that put people to work immediately. Twenty dollars for a whole chicken...twelve dollars for two split chicken breasts....and I GUARANTEE you these folks are not getting rich....but how many regular working folks could afford those prices ? This is THE issue with grass fed meat. The farmer can not get the gain in pounds needed to compete with conventional farming methods so the price is prohibitive. There are very few consumers that could afford to eat this way.

Recent exploration of rare volcanic rocks in the rugged, dangerous desert of southern Afghanistan has identified world-class concentrations of rare earth elements, the prized group of raw materials that are essential in the manufacture of many modern technologies, from electric cars to solar panels. So far, geologists say, they have mapped one million metric tons of these critical elements, which include lanthanum, cerium and neodymium.

That's enough to supply the world's rare earth needs for 10 years based on current consumption, points out Robert Tucker, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientist who is the lead author on a report released on September 14. And from clues his team gathered during three high-security reconnaissance missions to the site, he suspects the deposit is actually much larger.

"I fully expect that our estimates are conservative," Tucker told Scientific American. "With more time, and with more people doing proper exploration, it could become a major, major discovery."

The USGS's exploration time has been strictly limited due to the deposit's location in the most dangerous part of the country, near the southern border with Pakistan. The geologists were delivered to the site in Black Hawk helicopters, and armed soldiers watched over them as they scoured the ground for clues.

Your new smartphone or laptop may not jump in price just yet, but the manufacturers have seen soaring prices for the rare earth minerals used in such gadgets.

Rising demand for the minerals has outpaced supply and led to a doubling in price over the past four months, according to the New York Times. The dominant supplier, China, has also begun cutting back on rare earth exports to the rest of the world and raising export taxes as it focuses on feeding its own industry demands.

Such price increases probably won't hit consumers, because gadgets such as iPhones or computers use tiny amounts of rare earth minerals. But experts have warned that the high prices and short supply could slow the pace of innovation in developing new technologies that use such minerals.

One consumer product that may also see related price increases is Toyota's Prius hybrid electric car, which uses 2.2 pounds of the magnetic material known as neodymium. But consumer demand, economic conditions and production issues in the wake of Japan's earthquake and tsunami have played the big roles in recent Prius price hikes, the New York Times reports.

The doubling in rare earth prices over the past four months comes on top of a fourfold price increase in 2010 – and the pressure won't lift anytime soon. Rare earth mining companies in the U.S. and elsewhere have begun reopening old mines and investigating new deposits, but many new mines around the world won't start up until 2014.

Recycling the minerals in old gadgets may help meet some of the demand, but the process remains both complicated and expensive. Huge corporations such as General Electric and Toyota have also begun looking for substitutes that could replace rare earth minerals.

For now, China controls 97 percent of current rare earth production because it alone has the expensive facilities needed to process the minerals. The country used that position as political leverage by halting rare earth mineral shipments to Japan during a territorial dispute last fall, the New York Times said.
