well after sitting through another budget meeting...
I do believe that people of this county need to be at the PUBLIC HEARING... when it is posted...

Here we have a County that has NO MONEY for needed projects, can't afford raises... BUT... 3 out of 5 commissioners WANT/NEED that now $750.00 per month gas allowance...
This is on top of the salary they receive...

Here are the figures...
$750.00 times 5 equals...$3,750.00 per month.
$3,750.00 times 12 equals $45,000.00 per year.
at $45,000.00 per year that is a salary for an employee...

Ok.... how many of you get a driving allowance to drive to and from your job?

Thank you Mr. Howell and Mr. Pate for looking at this logically and trying to vote against it!!!

$45,000 a year could be two full time positions at $10.00 per hour! With $5,000 left over for the library funding in Ebro!

If I am correct and I do think I am, no it does NOT have to be reported! It is kinda like free money!

$750.00 dollars a month for gas? That is another income.... One of those hidden ones that nobody says anything till they are caught red handed. This county ought to be before the grand jury

There are enough county vehicles sitting around that no milage should be given to any staff employee. I would bet that the HR director is getting a gas allowance. RDH and EP have county vehicles and should not be claiming any mileage.

Ok...I have scoured the Florida Statutes..
Here they are...or the web site that is...
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm...

Section 14 deals with County Officials...
Now my question is.. I read that mileage is considered in many different ways...
Now if you look there are 3 types of travel mentioned... None of which offer a Per Diem for normal travel to and from the office..

If anyone can get something more from this.. Please chime in!!!

As far as I know.... RDH drives a County Vehicle.. So that would not be considered for mileage... Emory also drives a County Vehicle, so no mileage... I have less of a problem with these two people.. because they are "ON CALL" 24/7...
Heather Finch DOES NOT get mileage..

This mileage allowance is JUST for County Commissioners...

I believe they have to track the mileage and can get reimbursed at .505 per mile-but it would only be for worked mileage not to and from work. Maybe for a special trip or riding around the county but that is alot of miles.

PS .505 is the current rate from the IRS

At 44.5 cents a mile that is 1685 miles a month. 20,225/year seems like a large amount of miles.$750.00/month is $9000.00/year and would have to be reported to the IRS with mileage justification deducted, at least one would think. I would rather do mileage which is not reported to the IRS.

What is the per mile allowance that can be claimed on income tax? I think some where around 40-cents. If being paid 40-cents per mile, each commissioner would have to drive 1875 miles a month to be reimbursed $750. That's alot of trips around Washington Co. There's no way they drive that much.

Sorry, we were both having a light bulb moment. However, my comment was not as statistically correct as yours.

They use one month as a tentative amount... From what I have heard.. there is no forms filled out.. They just claim the check...Which was dropped today to $750.00 a month...
This amount of money is JUST given to the Commissioners... Sorry I think it is horribly wrong... When you take a job like this... You know the responsibilities... Just as my husband knew he was going to be driving 55 miles one way to his job..and NO he doesn't get mileage....

Sorry... When this County has no money... this is one area that can be cut... IMO

IRS rate 50 cent down from 55. State of Florida pays less. Does not apply if county or city accepts IRS rate

But, if they are getting this much money, what in the world are they, the CC, doing riding around with employees who are authorized to drive county vehicles? 750 dollars a month is entirely too much. Almost amounts to stealing.
