"Holland said there were grants available to fund a clock tower, adding that of the $500,000 spent for the Massachusetts clock tower, 80 percent of the project was funded by the federal government, and 20 percent was funded by the state."

Oh grant money will pay for 80% and we only have to pay for 20%. Really, do these idiots not realize where this money comes from? Its all tax money the 80% and the 20%. We are tired of paying for stupid crap like this. All those in favor of putting something there then let them donate their own money to the project and see how much they come up with, probably not even to buy a watch. Quit spending our tax dollars on bullcrap that people dont even care enough about to fund. Government , local , state and federal get out of our damn pockets!!!! Let people keep their hard earned money and support what they want with it.

That mentality is what has gotten us where we are. Its hard to expect the government to quit overtaxing and wasteful spending when we are sitting there with our hand out for stupid crap like this. How many people are on welfare with the same mentality saying "everyone else is getting it i may as well too".

It is trully for me to beleive how dumb some people can be. A $100,000 clock ? In this day an age we all have watches, cell phones, etc. And we need to build a clock tower, dumb does not even come close. Then to continue on, instead of someone saying " You dumb ass, shut up and sit down" No, they instruct someone to look into it. They are stupid or past stupid. Remember this is the same crowd that has nothing more to worry about than some well intended person putting fake/plastic flowers in their yard. The flowerslook nice and I beleive they did it with the money that they could spent. It looks nice, bu the mayor has to worry about it instead of working on real probems. I don't live in Chipley, but ya'll have some dumb asses elected that need to go. Worry about flowers in a yard and spending $100,000 o a clock. They should go straight to Washington DC they would blend in great.

And these same idiots are some of the same ones who complain about government spending but think if its for something they want its ok.I agree mayor needs to quit worrying about what people do with their property and worry about city employees and the waste we spend there.
I think they loved the clock idea because they are all a bunch of idiots and just dont realize that most people (at least working taxpayers) are sick and tired of them reaching into our pockets for our hard earned money just for it to go to some stupid shit that we dont need or to hand it to someone who is too damn sorry to even work, like these government cell phones.

What a lovely tribute it would be. The industrial park is nice, but we need something that stands out more and is more visible to remember him by and to honor the McDonald family. 100,000 is a drop in bucket for what they have brought to our city. I say spend it and be happy. Years from now it will stand as an historic clock tower for our children and grandchildren to be proud of.

Retards like you are the reason the country is in the shape it is. If 100K is a drop in the bucket why don't you dumbasses raise the money with donations to pay for it?
In a time when so many families are struggling you want to waste a 100K on a stupid ass clock. And then of course with Chipley mentality they will want to hire someone to be the clockkeeper for 50K a year to maintain it.No wonder Chipley has a hard time keeping businesses.

You are the retard and you have to accept the fact that money must be spent to maintain our traditions. You owe it to people like Tommy McDonald, who brought Wall Mart to Chipley, for everything this town has. 100,000 is a small amount of money, and yes hiring someone to keep up with the clock at 50,000 sounds reasonable when you think of the historic significance of such a structure. It would also increase tourism.

BUILD THE TOMMY MCDONALD MEMORIAL CLOCK TOWER NOW!

He has a industrial park named after him let it be. He done some things for Chipley and it should not be forgotten but my goodness if we had it your way we would rename Chipley and call it "McDonalds". Screw a clock tower, how about trying to pay off some of the 8 million dollar debt! Now there's an idea.

Yeh a clock tower is a tradition? Tourism? Who the hell will travel here to see a clock tower? Put your money with your mouth is and pay for it then.If I remember right Chipley's best econimical times were before Walmart came, there were a lot more businesses. I have nothing against Walmart just saying we don't owe Tommy McDonald for shit.

City officials are worried about everything but jobs. They are clueless about what is important to prosperity. The Mayor needs to go back and find a restaurant run down. Kevin needs to keep trying to be a clown in a show. Both need to leave before things get anymore screwed up by their lack of leadership. Flowers clocks...........
