Recreational Director/

[HAPPY CAMPER AND PARENTS]

I hear the deadline for recreational director is April 21, 2008. I wonder who is running for the City of Vernon. Also I see the girls that run the concession stand are volunteers working for for the past month in a half cleaning up and restoring inside to be able to stay open for practices and softball games.I think the city should retro or at least pay them girls something because they do a great job serving great food at reasonable prices. The Park has looked good lately at the Vernon Sportplex and Shady Grove too KUDOS!!!!TO ALL THE HARD WORKERS BEHIND ALL THIS TO MAKE OUR COMMUNITY HAPPY FOR OUR KIDS TO PLAY AND ENJOY!!!

My condolences to the poor souls having to clean up after the NEW temporary Rec. Director, he was seen taking trash and spreading it all around at one of the Vernon ballparks today, yes I said taking it and spreading it around, not picking it up, in an attempt to stage vandolism. How pathetic.

you are totally right he was two weeks ago outside in the hot sun around 1 or 2 p.m. with his two young kids riding a tractor to cut the grass or do the fields for the ball games and his momma thinks he is going to be permanent she got another thing coming,,she tries to run that concession stand with her step daughter or who ever that person is in there...i dont think that money is going back into the city, it has never did when baxley was in office so why now they are all connected all theieves probably...next time you have your kid playing ball or whatever ask why they are volunteer in their right minds would want to volunteer with all the bullshit behind the mess...heck no they dont need to get paid...bring back the other crew that use to run the stands there where the community knew them...the city is suppose to paid the officials of the game and workers at the park not his mother who runs the concession stands at both parks...it will soon be over believe me...from someone who knows who is going to be the new rec director for a week now..

Some of your info is incorrect, Baxley did his job and all money was turned in, check records at City Hall, they'd like for everyone to think Baxley was doing something wrong but the investigation will prove differently. Also, Baxley isn't a thief and is not connected with the new interim director. And if you've only known who the new one was gonna be for a week, you're kinda behind the times.
New interim director's mom taught him to be the way he is, she even told that DOT people do it all the time, in reference to his paying for personal gas with the City Card. How ridiculous they both are, one lies and the other covers it up.

I agree, one woman decided to extend her services for the kids and stay witht he concession and now the new rec dir wife moved on in running things she was outside making statements about just wait now and three weeks everything is going to change. We even saw her that night working the window and her husband the rec director reggie i think his name carrying his son around taking turns. there were two other young girls in there two, one of the girls was trying to make change for me at the window and the rec wife try to intervene and not let the real manager of the concession take care of it...whats up with that...that nice woman that been there since day one was really upset that night closed the window at 730 and left at 8 p.m.
anyways i hope the rest of the teams staying playing the three weeks out.....so many changes and attitudes, ms. olene and jason were there that night also....

i heard they could not pay two people at the same time that is why jason is not there, why is that how can one person do it all...oh yeah that is why that got that million dollar golf course landscapers to get the job done. golf balls and tees are totally different from softballs and bats.

OMG! I can hardly believe what I'm reading here! First,nice woman or not,there is no "Concession Manager" Council that told her that apparently haven't read the contract they approved. Rec Director is the only "manager" of anything. Council overstepped their boundaries on that one, and if Rec Director wants to call em on it, they've already breached his contract.
Second, jason and olene were volunteers with an agenda. Jason was promised the position before the bids ever came in, if he hadn't got caught staging vandalism at one of the parks right before his interview he'd probably had it in the bag.(good ole boy politics)
Not being able to pay two people was never an issue, only a yarn told to save face, there is no need to pay two people, one rec director is sufficient, and Worthington was the most qualified applicant of those who submitted a bid. He's done nothing wrong and shouldn't be ridiculed on here just because he got the job.

I never ever ever make a comment on these forums. I normally just check them out to see how little people have to do. When all you have to do is sit around and think of something to create more strife and "Confusion",(get it Confused?) you need to get a life! With attitudes like this, no wonder Vernon is in such a mess. The Bible says, "A house divided can not stand." You said you wanted a change, so they got rid of Buddy. Olean and Jason stepped in immediately to see that the children could play ball this year. They get my honors for that. The bids were opened for the Rec Director position. The council decided to hire Mr. Worthington. So we got a change. Mr. Worthington, is what I understand a golf course Manager by day but I also can remember when I use to come to the ball fields and watch my son play ball and Reggie then was also on the field. Much of the time, he was on the mound pitching or playing 3rd base. And during basketball season he was on the court ringing 3's to take the school record for NW Florida. My point? Mr. Worthington is qualified to do the job! I am sure. He was a super athelete in school and loves sports and from everything I have ever seen, he is a very honest person, very polite and obviously a hard worker. And why should anyone have a problem with that? He has done NOTHING to anyone. For once now, can't Vernon work together and try to get things working in one direction? And as far as Reggie and his wife passing their child back and forth. That's great! That's family! Tell me what's wrong with that. We need more of that in Vernon.

Gator's right about Reggie, he'll probably do a wonderful job, and shouldn't be crucified just because he got the job someone else wanted.
Sadly, change wasn't the issue when they decided to get rid of Baxley, good ole boy politics was.
Hopefully, they'll leave Reggie alone and let him do his job in peace.

you are right there are too many people trying to run the place. If they picked him then he is the most qualified I wish him well, but with the way politics and the way the city handles things is something else...Hope for the best for vernon..

Well for once I would say a Nole must agree with a Gator! Are they ever really happy? They complained about Mr. Baxley then Jason and Ms. Olene. I am sure they will find something wrong with Reggie before it is over! I to saw Reggie play several different sports. I think most of these people have forgotten that at the council meeting Jason and Ms. Olene were asked to do the work they did. I think they did a great job as I also think Reggie will do a great job if these people will leave him alone and put their focus on what really matters here THEIR CHILDREN!!!!!!!!
