The past couple of years the Teachers of Kate Smith has shared the FCAT bonus money with the lunchroom workers saying that they were part of the team. This year the greedy Teachers have decided not to share.Because of the Teachers decision to exclude the lunchroom workers from sharing the bonus money, they have indicated that the lunchroom workers are not part of the team.

We are third from the bottom in area County rankings and the teachers get a FCAT bonus....unreal. Wish I could get a bonus for subpar performance.
BTW....I don't think the cafeteria staff has alot of input on what the child is learning.

Hard Decision

I would look at it in multiple ways. The teachers and administrators will get all of the blame if the school grade drops from the A that it is. There will be no blame if this happens at the feet of the Lunchroom workers. Also, the Lunchroom workers must not be considered members of the team by the county office as they have been privatized.
On the other side they do play a roll in the students day and can make a good or bad impact on the students.
All I can say is it can't be an easy decision, and someone would not have been happy which ever way it went.

What about substitutes, home bound teachers, speech specialists, etc.????? Lunchroom workers, you just make sure those kids don't do so well on the FCAT this year so those teachers don't get that money. And if you want the money maybe you should be included in the merit evaluation process too--bet you would cry we are not a part of the team, don't evaluate us! How many sleepless nights do you have over Little Johnnie because he just cannot grasp the concept of fractions or Little Susie just cannot write a flowing paragraph? Did you go on to college, working your way through, or working a fulltime job, raising a family and going to school at the same time? You best be thankful you have a job in these days.

Bottom line: all staff at Kate Smith gets a bonus for the school being an "A" as long as they worked at Kate Smith last year. This includes speech, office staff, paraprofessionals, librarians, coaches and teachers. As far as I know, only 2 lunch ladies at Kms are employees of the WCSB, the rest are contracted.

The teachers voted and thought about who's ass was on the line come FCAT time and the last people who are at risk of losing their jobs over bad scores are the nurses, bus drivers, and lunchroom staff, and none got the bonus money.

Teachers are not the only people who work a fulltime job and raise a family.I get tired of hearing Teachers cry about they went to college to become a Teacher and others aren't equal to them because they have a job that didn't reqire a college degree. So many Teachers constantly complain about being underpaid and overworked yet they knew before they went to college to become a Teacher what the pay was.And here we go again about the Teachers having sleepless nights over little Johnnie and little Susie,as If Teachers are the only people in the world that worries about the students.People like you need to realize that you are not the chosen one and although you believe it,you are not above or better than anyone who isn't a Teacher.

my belief is.... the ones responsible for the childrens grades and teaching them as far as fcat goes, the teachers only.... no principles, no lunch room, bus drivers.. etc should get it. i dont see it as greedy at all. the teachers are the ones preparing the students for this very imp test........ employees of the school are treated VERY fair as far as benefits, bonuses, etc....... i agree the pay could be more, because its our children their making an impact on.... its the teachers spend ing many night, weekends, getting this ready and praying that they score good, because its there shoulders that these scores fall on... not the lunch staff or anyone else.. bus drivers get paid for what thhey, as well as any other employee at kms... if u and larry and tom and harry were shoveling shit out of a ditch and knew ur job depended on, but yet bob, jerry, and bill also got paid even thoughthey were not doing. the work ... would that be fsir.... no... so point is as stated above everyone should be thankful they got a job these days... teachers have to have degrees to teach, its hard to replace them for a good teacher, but lunchroom staffs can easily be replaced.. no degree there..... i also know it is against policy to be talking about the school on internet if ur an employee.. topix is for opinions but not above tracking who is posting if need be, and i hope this was not an employee that posted this topic.... school has right to get this info since it is bashing them, and its against company policy

my belief is after these postings the ones griping will have alot more to gripe about, and had wishedthey wouldve kept there greedy opinions to themselves if they are affiliated with kms by employment. some things dhould be thought about.. everyone i know gripes about pay anywherethey work. this society is never happy about pay.. cant make everyone happy, but teachers are excellent, they are ur childs future, and for the comment above about them being betterthan others... ur right there not, but i do treat them with a great bit of respect, because they are wiyh my children... if u dont like it and think less of them u should teach ur child. there r allways better paying jobs for anyone, but like a nurse, a soldier, and teachers it has to be in ur heart to enjoy it and be good at it. so until u walk the mile, u should shut ur mouth.. im not a teacher, but i know what they deal with and i know thanks to them my hild can read write spell
Majority rules

To set the record straight, please don't lump everyone into the same pile. The majority vote was to give the bonus to the teaching staff, but some of us believed that it should be shared with everyone including bus drivers, nurses and lunchroom staff. They may not teach but they certainly facilitate in getting our kids to school on time, making sure they are fed and tending to them when they are sick. The bonus certainly will not make anyone rich because it will only amount to a one time bonus of a few hundred dollars. Sharing with the other employees would probably have only decreased the amount by $50-$75. I would have preferred different results, but the majority rules and there are more teachers than other staff.

Yeah i agree. Just let em have the bonus to themselves. I would be pissed and outspoken too if i went to college for 4 years just to make as much as a garbage truck driver.

Aint that the damn truth. Ever notice how when you talk with an educator they always feel the need to dominate the conversation?

bubba you must be a garbage man. if you factor in the time off that a teacher gets, they make over $25.00 an hour. Do you make that much bubba? Let them keep there bonus!!
