I used to be a Chiloquin kid with dreams or wishes of what we could have here. But I'm not a kid anymore, and more of the kids' voices should be heard. What do you kids wish you could see as a function, event, or facility in this town of ours?

Well when I lived in chi (2004) and I heard alot of kids talk about what they wanted for Chi-town. They used to come by my house and eat and hang out and talk about there dreams of the future. The majority of them wanted a sports center ran by native kids with b-ball courts, swimming pools and a playground for the little guys. They wanted to see a McDonalds and a Papa Murphy's pizza (with native's working in these places)and a skateboard park. Now when I see these same kids. It's sad to know that selling dub sacks and parting at the park is what they do now. I just wanted to share what they said back in the day since they don't have computers or internet access. The chi-town kids will open up ta ya if you don't judge them and just LISTEN to what they have to say. It seems that after we get older we forget what it's like to be a chi-town kid! Chi-town will always be a rez to me!

I was hoping for their responses, but got other knuckleheads just wanting to take jabs at my name and not my question. Thank You Na8iveChic for your honesty and Integrity. I've heard of the want for McDonald's and a skateboard park. But we've continually asked the kids to stop by our offices in the past to help us design what they want. And nobody would come on by. So Close, yet so far away! It's like he kids have been engrained by our school's that the adults know more about what they want, and the kids' thoughts are tossed to the wayside, so they have no choice to believe in anyone wanting to bring something for their betterment here, since most people tell them their best bet is to "get out of Chiloqun," or you'll end up just like the rest of all those who are still here! Nobody has anything to show all the Chiloquin kids who achieved personal success no matter where they chose to live on as an adult...it was the Chiloquin education that got them to where they are successful and Happy. All those in control use the baddest examples of those who live in Chiloquin and can't get ahead in their lives because of jealousy and others' attempts to make one's life miserable just because they chose to remain in Chiloquin as their perfect example to leave town. Our kids should only want to leave town to see the rest of the world, and then want to and bring something back from the outside world back to Chiloquin, that will help all future generations to want to help make Chiloquin better, and a place to want to come back to. But there are the political individuals that don't want that to happen, because it threatens their political seat in being one of the highest paid "unqualified" persons in their lines of work! Rich jobs outweighs the want to make our town better, because we all want to make our town better! Kids need to dream BIG and make it happen, because they can make it happen! Us old stogies can be put on the wayside, but it's only the youth that will make that happen! Go Out and Bring something You Want to bring back to Chiloquin! I'm behind all of them!

Hide behind your issues with the Tribes! I'm trying to reach out to the unheard tribal voices that adults keep trying to speek out for, without actualy asking for their opinion(s). What are the actual youty voices you've succeeded in silencing because they will make the difference in the community you've kept down for years!

Hey heres a idea, all you stupid drunks and tweekers ,stop setting these fine examples for the kids of Chiloquin, What now you tribal members seem to think the children need to be heard what a joke, if any of you gave a dam about your little tribal kids you would stop making it unsafe for them to be out and about, are you shocked? you fuc$en idiots have made Chiloquin a slum hole for decades, now all of a sudden ( what do the kids have to say)humm maybe a course on how to avoid being shot or stabbed, or shoved off a cliff by a relative, you can build a office, but that does not make you a executive !!

When there's NOTHING for ANY of the kids to do then yeah things get destroyed , that doesn't make it a race thing . I've seen both white and natives destroying this town!!!! And if u don't think this place is beautiful than open ur eyes people....

everytime we get something new. people cant take care of it. so why bother getting a pool or new park equiptment. them sorry ass kids will probably tag it up or brake something and the drunks will have a new place to go get drunk at.

With that attitude nothing will get done and this town will never prosper . We need to stop blaming all kids for the stupid actions of a few.!!!
We need to help our kids people not watch them die because there is nothing for them to do but drink and do drugs and klll each other!!!

Prevention starts at home if not then it's a lost cause simple as that. I'm sure alot of kid's would like to see alot more care from their families maybe some groceries in the cupboards and fridge, instead of old Dad and Mom trading their food cards for drugs or whatever. I bet they would also like to be warm and maybe have a stable home enviroment.

This is not true. Examples of new sites in Chiloquin: Both the Tribal Administration Building and the Tribal Health Building, The congregate Building, and The Community Center. All of these facilities are being taken care of and are not being vandalized or demolished. A youth facility would just need the proper care and management to keep up the maintenance and the presence of these fine structures is proof that we can take care of it.

The "Indians" in this town possess at least three of the most modern, up to date, beautiful structures in Chiloquin and all three of those structures are being well managed and taken care of. Maybe it was your or your families kids who did the spray painting.

If you followed up with things you wrote about before, like having the treasurer of the Tribe audited, it would lead to the money trail and corruption that would allow us to empower the Tribe to do good things for the Tribe as you wish and fulfill realistic and positive dreams!!

That is only partly true, many troubled and neglected youths are strongly influenced by anyone who really cares and puts forth a helping hand whether it be a teacher, counselor, social worker, relative, etc..
Buy land in the city near the school for maximum child access and build this youth center, buy a security system with floodlights, hire tribal night security to patrol all tribal properties, Have an area with tutors & computers for thier school work, get Title V and JOM grants help pay for it, Supply USDA meals free like the boys and girls clubs do (funding for this is federal). Charge non-tribal membership fees that just go directly into the maintenence and running of the center. Keep it strictly non-profit for tax write off. Sponser weekly or monthly drug and alcohol free events like movie night, boogie night, tournaments, comedy, game show nights with small prizes. Sponsor fund raisers to pay for those things. Hold ala-teen meetings with your alcohol and drug counselors present and supply, cocoa, coffee, punch and cookies at those. If you really care you can make a difference whether thier parents are paying attention or not.

Wow I think that last remark was RIGHT on the mark everything u said we here in chiloquin should have I have just one small problem why is it that u should charge a fee for non tribal members?? If u could please explain why u think that way because as far as I see it I feel somehow that's just wrong why should one group over another get specail treatment or priceing? I've lived in this town for many years , have raised three kids and now have grandkids growing up here I couldn't consider this beautiful town more apart of us than if we have had lived here for generations like some of our beautiful native families.
Anyways just because I'm not from this tribe I would have to pay differantly..i think that might be a little wrong that's all I'm saying. I think all kids native or white should be allowed the freedom to enjoy all those
wonderful things nativepride spoke of
maybe as parents and grandparents and just people that live here in chiloquin should hold any fundraisers for those fees for the kids plus we should get held-wen and the tribe to pay for new playgroung equipment... Whatever it takes for the kids!!!! Nativepride u have some great ideas hopefully the person that started this thread will LISTEN to you....
I wish you all a happy and loving new year
