Thought I would pass on some information for those of you that want to start your own Modoc Tribe. Drive East about 1600 miles and you will find one in Miami Oklahoma. All you will need is a sandwich and a road map. Good Luck.

Just wondering that those who want to start their own modoc tribe after they withdraw from the Klamaths, are they going to return the monies that they received either as withdrawn or remaining members way back when termination happened? Also remembering when another one of Miller Anderson wanta be indns son tried to become adopted and it was a referendem vote that BOOTED him. Name was Buck Ness, remember?

And if those Modocs are successful and don't receive any government funds because we already receive the government funds due to the Treaty of 1864, and the Modoc Tribe of Miami, Oklahoma, and they want back in, do we have the right to vote them back into the Tribes they disbanded from? I think we hold that right to keep them voted out, because of their greed for government monies they are sour about!

It's funny that all your talking about is the money? This has always been the case. The haves and the have nots. The hang around the fort ndns and the ndns that live free! Try living outside on your own, in the real world!
What has changed? The Klamaths stealing from the Modocs. What started the Modoc War? What's changed? I would like to know more about this group who wants to separate? All I can say, it's about time! And about remaining or withdrawn, divide and conquer. Talk about greed! What about our children? Pretty soon there will only be a few of you remainings left, then you'll have it all to yourself! Isn't that whats this all about?

Its rather comical when the hounds get closer to the scent, the convicts try covering up the tracks by bashing Modoc people, deceased Tribal members, and people who haven't been around for over a decade.
Truth is Buck Anderson, came home a wounded Vietnam war veteran, was a champion Indian Bull dogging champion, and what most people like about him the funniest person in the room. He was not removed by referendum but by the way they normally do business in Chi town a quorum vote. Tribes loss!!

One of the Referendums that needs to be revisited which they are trying to throw the hounds off the track is the Blood descendant, which passed, and was overturned by a quorum vote! The people have spoken? Bull! Look up who were the people that voted to overturn that referendum! Was that legal, when the people spoke! I predict that the little quorum of voters will lose their power to make major change and Referendums will be revisited as to how they are forced on the people!

That is the truth about the voted in blood degree being over turned; the klamath tribes operates the way it wants to without regard to standard policies and procedures; and at times changes them to suit their wants and or needs as required. As for the modocs, it will always be what the "klamaths" want in chiloquin for chiloquin, not what the modocs or the yahooskins have to say about anything. The klamaths always worry about their 54 roll and who's going to get more money; forgetting that the majority of them because of their greedy parents elected to withdraw instead of remain. Why doesn't the tribe have representatives from from each of the three tribes on the council? Most reservations that have more than one tribe require a representative from each district to sit on the council; why doesn't the this tribe? It should be straight across the board if the tribe wants to call itself " The Klamath Tribes". If everything revovles around chiloquin and its' community then maybe a renaming should take place. Maybe it would be good for those who have modoc blood to seperate in order to be treated fairly. Its the same old thing of how one group treated another poorly out of greed except its now 130 years later.

Some of the things you talk about are true. But you don't know what withdrawing an remaining actually means and you must be a descendant if your talking about greedy 54 members. Generalizing is not talking truth! Maybe it would be good for those who have modoc blood to separate in order to be treated fairly? Greedy Klamaths? Wow you have scattered thinking! That will solve the problems of the Tribe how they do business! I think not! Your deceptive!

Scattered, I have to acknowledge you to a point, but that's how it is down here. Unless you have a certain name or are sleeping with the right person, or are from chiloquin; you can't get housing, tribal employment, or the littlest of favors. My parents are both 54 members and even they are tired of all the bickering about litigation monies, 54 banking accounts etc. How can the tribe ever do honest business when they won't follow their own rules and keep hiding information that the tribal members should have a right to know about? Why won't the tribe issue an annual report showing how much of the tribes monies were spent on staff trainings, department budgets, and donations to local events? Everything has to be a secret at administration, GRC, and the casino. Money has destroyed and decimated the tribe; and it continues to do so for the past 56 years. Sooner or later the tribe will have to lower its blood degree just like all the rest, its happening everywhere and people just can't keep changing their family blood degrees to get children on the roles; its sickening because the tribe allows it all of the time. Don't you think that the tribes should start acting like the "tribes" instead of the "tribe"? The truth is that money, favoritism, and greed continue to out weigh anything and everything that the tribe tries to accomplish. Everything and everyone is against each other because it wasn't their idea, nobody ever works together to accomplish a common good for the tribe in anyway.
Lets get it right

The 54's was remaining members (473) and the withdrawn members (1660).

Pursuant to the Klamath Termination Act, a final roll of all adult members of the tribe was prepared and published in 1956. 25 U.S.C. 564b. Under the Act, each person whose name appeared on this tribal roll had to elect whether to withdraw from the tribe and receive the money value of his interest in tribal property or to remain in the tribe and participate in a nongovernmental tribal management plan. The Act provides that 'members of the tribe who receive the money value of their interests in tribal property shall thereupon cease to be members of the tribe ....' 25 U.S.C. 564e(c).

13
On the final tribal roll were 2,133 persons. Of these, 1,660 elected to withdraw from the tribe and take their interests in cash. The remaining 473 elected to retain their interests in land and to participate in the land management plan. A part of tribal land proportionate to the number of remaining members was transferred to a private trustee to administer under the statutory management plan. The remainder was sold to pay the withdrawn members, and the majority of this portion is now United States national forest land.

So the ones who got or took the money were Klamath, Modoc and yahooskin so was the withdawn's greedy?

You have some correct figures, but forgot one main point. Unlike today's government votes where you must be 18 years of age; the government allowed parents to vote for their minor children. If you do the math and throw out all the minors votes that the government counted you would see a different side of the story. The good old US was founded on honor and truth wasn't it?

Regardless of withdrawn or remaining, both sides were terminated! How can you know what was in the hearts of these members who had no choice of being terminated.

Sounds like you know nothing of The Modoc Nation and what it stands for. It's funny you stated exactly what a Klamath person stated at our meeting. This person lied and said he was Modoc and he was the one stating this. We found out that he and some others were not Modoc and removed, also his friend Perry Chesnut. It is not about the money, it is not about a casino. Look how well the Klamoya is doing. It's about what is right and what should have always been. We are not Klamath's, I know some of you just can't except that. It's o.k. we still can be friends. The Modocs of Oklahoma are just that. It was not their fault they were shipped there. I don't blame them for some of them wanting to stay when they were offered to come to live with the Klamath's. After all, they were shipped to OK. because they didn't want to live with the Klamath's. "I know it's really hard to believe that anyone would not want to live with the Klamath's". We are here and not going anywhere, we are going to continue to grow and we will not allow anyone to change that. The U.N. Declaration of Rights ensures that you or anyone can't make us go away!

“In a room packed with hostile Indians, with only one door for an exit, the efforts toward reconciliation began.“

I am currently reading “Captain Jack, Modoc Renegade” written by Doris Palmer Payne.

The book was published in 1938. 66 years after the Modoc War of 1872.

After a Solitary mountain bike ride to Fort Klamath in 2008, it all feels strangely relevant in 2012.
