It makes me sad for their employees that lost their jobs. Here's the story from the Gazette web site:

CHILLICOTHE — All three Shell gas stations in Chillicothe closed without any advance notice Monday.

A man at the North Bridge Street location, who identified himself from behind locked doors as the owner but did not provide his name, declined to comment, except to confirm the Shell stations he owns in Chillicothe, Waverly and Circleville were closing for economic reasons.

The doors were locked at the 228 N. Bridge St. location and plastic grocery bags covered the pump handles. A check of the other two Shell locations — 1007 E. Main St. and 2121 Western Ave.— yielded similar results.

Property records show Scioto Oil Co. owns the Shell stations on East Main Street and Western Avenue. The station on North Bridge Street is listed as being owned by Bridge and Riverside Ltd.

All told, Scioto Oil Co. owns and operates eight gas stations in southeast Ohio under the Shell, Sunoco and Marathon brands, according to the LinkedIn profile of company president Dean Reynolds.

A call to Shell’s corporate media representatives was not immediately returned late Monday afternoon. The phone number listed for Scioto Oil Co.’s offices on Eastern Avenue has been disconnected.

East Main would be a good location for another Valero but is probably too small.

The parent companies may be making record profits but most gas stations make as few a 5 cents a gallon, take out what fees they have for credit or debit card usage and narrows the profit even more. Keep in mind almost every name brand gas station has franchise fees they have to pay also.

The valero gas stations around town (Kingston, SE, bridge, etc) are owned by a divorced, cheating, alcoholic, ass - I know - I had to work with him and couldn't take his eyes on me all the time

gas stations do not make the profit u think they do and in no way are included in oil company profits there prides are regulated by the government and only make pennys on the gallon profit. Truth is gas stations make more money on the groceries than gas.

Lol! You people blame the govt for a so called business man not taking care of his business correctly?? The hell with Dean, none of you cared for the real people in this world which are the workers!! They lost their jobs!! I don't care how long you known them, it doesn't pay the bills nor does it put food on their tables or clothes on their backs!!! Since you know them so well tell him to get off his lazy ass and make sure his ex employees get their unemployment benefits and their W-2's! Now that would be doing something nice since he screwed up these people's life's! Just saying.

You are correct. Their real profits definitely comes from selling over priced items inside the store. They suck you in with their "rewards" cards but just about everything you can buy inside these "convience" stores can be purchased elsewhere for less. You pay for "convience".
