Ok I have been dealing with this long enough...I think it's time for the Health Dept.to step in and get a handle on the lice issues..the parents of the decent kids, are spending way to much out of pocket expense on products to control the matter...

Good luck to you on that. I had the same problem at Unioto elementary about 7 years ago it got so bad I went on the bus one morning with a hot rag and a spray bottle full of bleach to wipe down the bus seat, because the girl she sat by was infested with it. I told the bus driver to move the child, because I was done having my daughter sit in front of me every night for 4 hours. She is allergic to rid and even the all natural products. My poor baby had hair almost down to her butt and it thick she would sit and cry because her head was so sore from me picking through it for hours every night. I called the school, health department, and CPS, because the poor child that sat next to her you literally could see them crawling all through her head! Nobody would help me it was not until they moved my daughter to another seat did she stop getting it, but hell by that time I had to throw away all her stuffed animals and the pillow my mother made for her when I was pregnant. She cried and cried over that pillow I don't think I have ever been that pissed in my life. The money and your time are bad enough, but to have your child cry every night for 10 days because their head and neck are so sore and you having to throw things away they love is heartbreaking. I wish you the best and hope you get rid of them soon. Oh one more thing they have a comb out to Sally's beauty store that helps kill the nits and pull them out easier its called a nit comb. It takes a battery's and it shocks them burning them up. It won't hurt the scalp or the hair that comb was a lifesavor for me.

I have battled all year with my daughter and the nurse blames it on me not removing all the nits. The health department will not do anything I've tried. Tiffin is a joke. So I've resorted to cutting her hair very short. She gets made fun of for it but she isn't miserable everyday with lice.

Mine never lice one time. They say really blonde haired girls don't attract the lice because they prefer dark areas. Ive also heard it was because of our shampoo. I wish I could remember the name. That is just disgusting that a parent would allow their children to be embarrassed in such a way and also hurt your children. Damn swamp yaks don't deserve children! I would have been furious. That treatment isn't cheap. I used to buy it for some of my home health clients because the poor kids would be the ones suffering. I feel bad for you ladies. Hell most kids can't even stand their hair combed let alone with that treatment. Them mothers need a damn mudhole stomped in them.

This is a problem in all the schools. My kids are in their 20's now but when they went to Huntington it was awful. Every week I would get a call to pick my kids up, I finally got mad the last time and I refused to leave until every child in their classes were checked cause I knew more than my kids had to have had it for mine to keep getting it even tho the school assured me mine were the only ones, well guess what 50 other students were sent home that day as well so don't take the schools word for it when they say they check everyone cause they don't. It said that when you buy school supplies the medicine for treatment has to be on that list. Good luck parents.

Sorry to hear about your "lousy" dilemma. I have read that olive oil acts as a smothering agent against lice and is a good remedy for less money. Its probably a lot less irritating for the childs scalp. I have also heard of mayonaise or baby oil as a treatment as well. After the lice are gone someone told me coconut scented shampoo or tea tree oil shampoos work as a lice deterrent. Hope your child is itch free soon!

The problem isn't the getting rid of the lice part. I treat i tear my house apart i wash everything i replace all the brushes combs hair accessories etc. Then send them back to school and within a week they have it again. It's expensive and takes a ton of time. I work full time so it's hard to find enough time. Also my daughter missed so much school over head lice that i had to face juvenile court!!!!! When I told the judge he said to just send my child anyways. So that's when and why i decided to cut their hair. It was a hard choice and she has been made fun of but she is happy that she no longer itches. The nurse has said she can't do a school wide check because it's to costly but why can't we parents help her? Have a group of people help the nurse do class head checks....... Just a thought.

My daughter goes to tiffin also and I'm constantly dealing with it! It's not anyone's fault a kid gets lice but it is the parents fault for not treating it! It's sad. She is also at that age if I cut her hair real short her ego would be crushed! Lose lose situation! Did your child also tell you that tiffin has roaches! It's down right unacceptable and someone should do something.

You can bag up your child's stuffed animals and other items like that for 2 weeks. That's what we did when I was a kid and me and my sister got lice. It was traumatic for us not having our stuff but was better than having it thrown away. I believe my mom had to put them in a trash bag and close it.

Lice bugs are mostly attracted to clean hair. Use coconut or peperment shampoo and keep some hairspray in their hair to be safe. Also i heard that a treatment called "fairytails" works wonders! It is sad the schools dont do anything about the children who are the carriers. But sadly theres really not much they can do. Its obvious that the parents of the child/children are not cleaning their house while treating their kids. Pretty disgusting!

You can get "fairytails" at Amy's Simple Devine right beside Christy's and Wesbanco. Thar is where my daughter and I get our hair done. I have seen it in there, but I don't know if it actually works. Its been 7 years since I had to deal with it, but any kind of product such as hair spray does help to keep them at bay. The do love clean heads.
