I'm voting for Lavender. I'm concerned that the Ron Nichols clone (Gillette) will return to the old ways. Had someone new came out of the woodwork I would have taken a serious look at that person. But to recycle someone from the past makes no sense to me. Lavender has not been a media graber the way Nichols was and I'm glad of it. Nichols even had his own media relations specialist. Nichols had many people working in "special" positions throught the Department that had nothing to do with Law Enforcement. Gillette was one of those people. I never want to return to those days. What if Gillette decided to bring Nichols and "Donnie" back on the Department? How many people would want to see that happen?

Instead of giving his buddies do nothing 'special' positions, he did worse, he put them in important positions (that now do nothing). Randy Bliss, Bob Stanhope and Keener off the top of my head. And who did lavender make jail supervisor as soon as he got in office? TJ Hollis! A guy who previously only had under 6 months of jail experience and no education in the field of corrections. Mean while you had people who knew there stuff and had years and years of experience, like (now former) Major Holman, who was demoted first thing.

I say the candidate pool is sad because you are going to get the same thing with either candidate. As always, the elected sheriff's buddies will be given jobs, regardless that there are others who are more qualified and better for the job.

This is part of why I hate politics and stay away from them, it's so rare you find someone who doesn't have a personal agenda and will do what's best for the taxpayers.
I agree

IMHO I believe that Sheriff Lavender has accomplished more in one term than Mr. Nichols has in his entire career.

To some extent I have to agree. The candidate pool is pretty weak and I would have seriously looked at someone new who was running. The Dumocrats failed to impress me with their choice who has questionable qualifications at best. With Bliss over Investigations, Stanhope over Road Patrol, Hollis over Jail, Keener over nothing, I can honestly say that none of them would have been my first choices either but at least they have not made some of the same mistakes that Nichols' crew did.

He just made it look that way because he was always chasing the media.

Nichols was a better sheriff? I'd love to hear you defend that statement.
