I was wondering, but does anyone know where the bums go? I know they stand on bridge street, but they seem to relocate when it gets cold. They was camped out on the river by Wal Mart (including the camoflauge bum with beard) and they also camp on paint creek by the Mead.

Fast fact: there was a "shanty town" along the scioto, located along the stretch where the floodwall ends going east and the main street bridge going toward charleston pike. It was a bunch of tents and a huge tarp *building*.

If I was a bum, i'd be freezing my buttcheeks off by now. Hope they can take care of themselves.

Maybe for some of them it is the truth. But we DO have a legitimate homeless population in Chillicothe. And it's really pretty insensitive for you to lump those truly in need in with those who take advantage.

But the way I see it, if someone is willing to cast aside their own self-respect and stand on the corner begging for change they need the money more than I do, homeless or not.

For every one person that you see standing on the side of the road, there are likely a dozen more who are too proud to ask for help. Even if it means they won't eat tonight or that they can't buy that new sleeping pad to keep the ground from being so cold.

I agree it a damn shame we give other countries millions, but we won't even help our own.

well, it is kinda hard to help our own when the ones that really need the help aren't the ones that are out there "bumming"!
Fuehrer is absolutely right!
I may live here in chillicothe, but I was raised in a place far worse than this and have seen what REAL homelessness is like, and what we all see here is mostly a scam. i get so tired of their petty little signs saying things like "will work for food" and "anything helps". have any of you ever once sat back and thought, "dang! that guy has been out here WORKING that stop sign in front of walmart for 12 hours everday! now if he at least gets $1 every five minutes, how much does that average per hour??!! and tax-free at that.

just a little something for a lot of people to chew on while you are at your 9 to 5 so you can support your families and keep a roof over your head the legit way, while these "BUMS" are living it up.

where i grew up, these fake bums would've got robbed a long time ago, and the real homeless people would actually be out looking for a job or some kind of help and not standing around waiting on people with good hearts and no common sense to come along and give them all of their money. but, here in good ol' chillicothe, if one of these "BUMS" were to get robbed, there would be another post on topix about how bad everyone feels for the fake bums and then they would just get more freebies from the same people.

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!!

Didn't mean no disrespect by "bums", it's just a catch-all term.

I know some of em make more than enough on handouts only to waste it. But what iwas alkin about were the one's using the tents on the rivers, and I feel bad for them if they cant keep warm. Where do they go? They're gonna freaking freeze to death! And there is that shantytown, it's there. You can probably see it from the hw.

Are tehy homeless because they have no choice or are they homeless by choice? From my experience only those that do not wish to follow the normal standards of society are homeless for long periods. That applies even more to veterans who can go to any VA and recieve more help than the average "homeless" person could ever find. There are enough social service agencies out there to provide housing for everyone who is willing to comply with the same rules that the rest of us do. I don't donate to or feel sorry for any of them.

I burrow down 3 ft and fill it with pine needles and a supply of nuts and berries to feed off of till spring comes around. I usually sleep for the most part, but since we had a drought the nut crop wasnt good. Every now and than I stand on the road towards Wal-mart and krogers and ask for peanuts or whatever I can get till warmer weather, thanks

What do you say we ask people on here to do the right thing. We could collect food , water, blankets or whatever we could get and form a group to go help these people. We can't judge, nor presume to be better than them. Self esteem is important and this could help get these people on their way to a better way, a better life. Sometimes a spark is all it takes.*****Hatchetman*****

Scroll to exactly 55 minutes in, and that is where all the bums go.

That is the truth with alot of them.

When I drove a Taxi I picked one up that was famous for standing in front of Lazarus in Down Town Columbus and buming money.

When we got to his house he pulled out a wad of 20 dollar bills and said, "How Many 20's Would It Cost Me To Take A Taxi To Delaware"

I thought it was kind of funny the way he asked how many 20's it would cost him.
I dont know if he didnt know how to count or what but that was the first and last time I ever heard anyone ask how much something was by going by 20 dollar bills.

Anyway this one had a fairly nice little house to be bumming money.

Saw a new one today. Male late 20s/30s holding a sign that said "stranded, need money to get back home". He was standing at the South Bound ramp from Main Street to 23/35/50.

I'm down. We could coordinate with the County Continuum of Care. They do homeless counts yearly and might be able to direct us as to where to find some of these folks.
