Both have their draw-backs. Menards employee's are typically nice to their customers however treat their employee's like SHIT. Lowes is kinda messed up but at least they ATTEMPT to be fair.

Menards is a HORRIBLE place. Try asking anyone you know that works there.

I work at menards, been there for quite a while.. I've never been treated badly.. I also have a lot of friends that worked there even before me.. They never have said they were treated badly. I've heard of other menards treating their employees wrong, but not here in Chillicothe.

Now, when it comes to choosing menards or lowes - it's about 50/50. Depending on what you are looking to buy. I hear menards has more variety, especially when it comes to prices for quality. As for lowes, from what I have heard from customers, they are a bit higher.

I've also heard people complain of lowes not having anyone around to assist customers, which is why they usually end up at menards.

I'm just going by what I hear from customers. I do not do home improvement projects, etc .. But I like some of the grocery deals menards has.

I built almost my entire house from materials from Menards. The weekend sales are very good, and their normal prices are usually low as well. Not to mention, they strive to sell mostly made in America products, which is a major plus to me! I give them 5 stars! I do however go to Lowe's to buy Kobalt tools. I've never had a bad experience there, just prefer Menards.

The only complaint I have with menards is they make it look like excellent deals in their ads, but you go there and the only reason why its a good deal is bc of mail in debates....I just want the deal with no mail one involved. Lowes is ok....but kinda high...either way your getting ripped....

For me it's kind of a toss up but all in all I prefer Menards.
As an example, a few weeks ago on my quest for some different plumbing items my first stop was Lowe's since it's closer. I would not be surprised if one guy didn't have to turn in a claim to OSHA from falling over the crap they leave in the middle of the aisle in his attempt to keep away from the "potential customer with a question" I swear some people work more at avoiding work than if they just sucked it up and actually did what they are being paid for! I put all the stuff back and headed for Menard's.

At Menard's the young lady that tried to assist me was pleasant and tried to help, she just didn't have a clue ;-) I bought the stuff I could because she had attempted to help me. However by the time I leave Menard's I feel like a zombie from their never ending advertising loop "You save more money when you shop Menard's"

Oh, and I'm NOT at all happy that Menard's allow Direct TV salesmen to accost customers. That detail has been discussed with their management.

I worked at menards from set up and on for 2 years. The managers were mostly great except one, who was always bitter and tried to take me off the schedule for 2 weeks after I did my job. I reported something and tried to get facts straight. I was calm and polite as ever. He took his personal demon out on a few of us. Then there was 2 dept managers who were terrible, got fired thankfully. It's not usually the people running chillicothe's location. It's the company it's self. MANY MANY MANY employees including myself were shorted hundreds of dollars each in the beginning. There was an error or errors with the computer systems and even though badges were swiped properly, the hours weren't recorded. Then there were a few who had issues with the "PRD" system over charging. Generally the people who ran the store were great. However, it's very hard to move up the ladder if you start out as a front end team member. I quit because of that. It was literally too painful to stand on concrete in a small area all day, several days a week. I had a pinched nerve in my hip so moving was best. After my last year fighting to move up I left. It was bullshit to see brand new people starting in departments when others were knew the deptartment well already and wanted to move. Having your back open to customers when you have a drawer right there in front of your knees was nerve racking, too. I have told people not to apply or take a job as a cashier unless they knew self defense (LOL!) Lancaster treated employees like poo unless you became friends with superiors and wowed them somehow. Jerks. At all Menards it is a big deal to be fantastic to guests. You are told to not point in a direction, but to actually take and show the customer where to go for something and to stop what you are doing to help in a timely, polite manner. It's something they take pride in.

Lowe's is Where I normally go for supplies, except for paint. The manager, Mickey, was EXTREMELY rude when they OBVIOUSLY mixed two cans of paint wrong (they were supposed to be the same color). They have gotten a little better with customer service to keep up with Menards. Otherwise it's a good place to shop.

Well,

That d*mned jingle gets me everytime d*mmit. My wife can smell it before I get in the house. Says she's gonna send me to some uppity court ordered anti-bation classes.

It's not me, it's that d*mned jingle. I swear to...Well, it's the d*amned jingle. It makes me feel like marrying a man.

The "Jingle" is that BAD. I know where I'm shopping, no binkie in my mouth.

Menards, not Retards. Plese respect your customers, local programming would be better. Cheaper, just run the scanners and stay open 24hrs.

Uh, oh...excuse me...busy.

Lowes is definately better on customer service, I asked where an item was in menards and the girl turned around and pointed to an employee on the phone and told me to wait and ask them.

Really depends on what you're looking for, Menards typically is a bit cheaper, but the product is typically cheaper made too. There is always someone there eager to help at Menards, unfortunately most of them don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. At Lowe's when you do get someone, typically they know most anything there is to know in that area and if not they'll find out for you. I prefer Lowe's most of the time.

Modern Builders Supply across from Time Warner. They don't advertise since they are wholesale. Be your own contractor and they will help you out. Staff is busy but great.

You are correct, WHEN you get someone they seem to know more about their products. Don't bother going into the store between 8 and 10 am. That's when management is beating on their employees because sales are down. Maybe sales are down because customers cannot obtain service from the employees for two hours EVERYDAY. I am also getting tired of being asked about their STUPID customer card that they want to use to track my purchases EVERY time I make a purchase. I have even started shopping elsewhere to avoid the harassement.

Just never think of them. Did go in there once to look at cabinets. The ONE person who worked with cabinets was off that day. Left my number and never did get a call from them. VERY poor Customer service.
