Reasons for it:
1). We would own it
2) minerals would be ours
3). We would be far ahead on the next expansion to mars, Venus,...
4). Rehab for peripeligics
5). Scientific research
6). We won't have to take advantage of, or abuse others, like we did to the Indians
7). We can store nuclear weapons and nuclear waste there

I used to think Gingrich was a nut, but maybe he has a great idea.

The money spent would be a waste on a unheard of scale. Better spend the money on finding solutions to problems here on earth. Not creating the same problems on the moon

Yeah, let's not even consider it. The world still has those types who once said, "the world is flat". Let's all listen carefully to them, and don't consider crazy ideas.

According to some researchers, the US already has bases not only on our moon, but also on Mars. Maybe so; maybe not. But since some humans have done such a great job of screwing up Earth, they (or we) should screw up other planets by exploiting their resources and oppressing their possible inhabitants. We need to "save" those beings by forcing our religion on them too.

We're broke as a nation and we still have fools thinking up new ways to dig our hole deeper. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Columbus made a silly trip too. What he found wasn't worth much. Sorry, we should now down to the small minded.

Entertaining if nothing else.

Hopefully / you're aware that the sites / sources you provided in your response above / have very little / if any credibility. I'll rephrase my earlier question: Non-fringy / non tin foil hat / even moderately reliable site / Source for this information please?

For those of you who actually think mankind has actually been to the moon....why haven't we been back? Did we learn all there is to know about the moon? We had the technology in the 60s but not now? Or was it a cover up to get people off the Vietnam War?

Pssst...

The United States's Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon on 20 July 1969.[4] There have been six manned landings (between 1969 and 1972) and numerous unmanned landings.

The only reason we stopped at the moon and didn't go any further is because when we go there, there wern't any Klingons there.

I think we should cease NASA and all space technology advancement. After all, we can hitch rides with our friends, the Soviets and Chinese. We can save all that money and technology advancement and poke it down the rat hole of contraception, abortion, and social entitlements. The US is destined to die anyway and we can just hasten the process as we withdraw and curl up and die from internal decay. There is no longer a need for US world leadership. The Muslims are poised to take over and take care of us. I'm sure they would offer instruction on how to fxck camels and save on contraception.

Noooo we didn't go to the moon, it was all filmed on a Hollywood sound stage... just like 9/11 was an inside job, Hitler is having sex with Bigfoot in Brazil and Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe are living on a secret island with Jimmy Hoffa.

Artificial moon. Yeah, Right!! Interplanetary wars, "War in Heaven". Little green men. Tiamat collided with earth. A big chunk became our moon, the rest of the debris became the asteroid belt. Whatever! Deathstar
If it was on History Channel, it must be true.(Just being sarcastic)
