I just heard on the radio that the only girls in the whole baseball team that were nominated for All State were the coaches two daughters, one of whom is a freshman....really...I don't have any children but this seems strange and nervy at the same time, I did follow the games and there were several really excellent girls on that team. I would think that some of the senior girls that did play good games should have at least been nominated before a freshman, just my thoughts, what do you think.

I'd have to go back and compare individual stats to see if the choice was legit. That would be the only way to know.

typical of some fans. Let's not celebrate the positive (two girls chosen) let's instead find something to bitch about (the ones not chosen)
All State means the best players of all the teams in the state in that classification, not just teams in the final four.

as far as I know, all state nominations are not made public, only those players that are chosen to the all state team. maybe several WERE nominated, but those voting just didn't select them.

Both of the girls are very talented, but as far as the nominations and selections it is up to the coaches. The coach nominates the athlete and the other coaches vote. So yes if the coach happens to be a parent to a player it seems like when it comes to softball and volleyball the coaches kids have some great stats. I know that there are some coaches that are harder on their own kids and can coach for the good of the team. However, when stats get fixed and average players are recognized as a stand out it is very frustrating for the kids who are out there working just as hard and taking the errors and mistakes for the coaches kids. I'm just a spectator to both of these programs and it doesn't take much to see that a couple of coaches are all about themselves and their kids. Go ahead and try to argue this. Even with the success of the softball team ask some of the girls their thoughts. Then ask the volleyball team how great their experience was. They have some talent as well, but if your coach doesn't care or try then what do you do? Go ahead and argue this. It is what it is, sad but true.

Just a typical Stan Baldwin move! It's been that way since he came here and it won't end till his DUMB ASS is gone! In 3 years when the next "PRINCESS" leaves..........Stan will have no need to self service his daughters careers here any further and he will take his "Talents" on down the road to walk off into the sunset filled with all the Lady Hornets spirits and promises he broke along the way!!!!!!!! To this we say "F___ Stan Baldwin......GOOD RIDENCE!!!!!!!

Bobby Knight had a great response when an idiotic reporter made a completely ridiculous comment at a press conference. He said, "that just illuminates your lack of knowledge on the subject". That's exactly what is going on here. Those of you who think it was ridiculous for both Baldwin girls to receive all-state honors clearly "lack knowledge" as to how all-state selections are made and what constitutes and all-state athlete.

First of all, all-state nominations are made by various coaches around the state. Many times nominations for players come from coaches of other teams/regions. Regardless of how athletes get nominated, they still must receive votes from OTHER coaches to make the all-state 1st or 2nd team. Lots of athletes are nominated, but obviously only a few make the all-state teams. Stan Baldwin could have nominated 5 girls from that team, but if they didn't get the votes from other coaches they won't make the team.

Secondly, those two girls had unbelievable seasons/statistics. The senior girl threw multiple no-hitters, hit nearly 10 homeruns(a number that is almost unheard of in girls high school softball), drove in a ton of runs, and had many clutch performances when the game was on the line. Not to mention the fact that she was intentionally walked for most of the state playoffs because no one wanted to take a chance pitching to her. Oh ya, can't forget that she's got a scholarship to play division 1 softball next year. The freshman girl of his put up equally mind-boggling statistics this year. She played great defense, had the highest batting average on the team at nearly .450, broke the school record for homeruns in a season, led the team in runs batted in, and was always a threat to steal bases anytime she was on base. All this as a freshman! Are you kidding me?? These are no-brainer all-state selections no matter what grade they are in or what their last names are!!!

This isn't intended to take anything away from the other girls on the team either. There were some other very solid girls on the team (none with near the statistics as these two girls though) and they wouldn't have made it to the state championship game without every one of those other girls. There's just no way to justify making any other girl an all-state selection on that team without both Baldwin girls being selected. Most of the negatives about Stan/his daughters stem from pure jealousy. Lets face it, it would be easy to be jealous of the abilities of those two girls on the field.

As far as Stan goes, I'm sure he isn't perfect. I'm sure he makes mistakes. I'm sure he rubs some people the wrong way. Nobody's perfect and we all make mistakes. I will say this though, as a close follower of hornet sports and particularly the softball team, I have seen and know of things that he's done that are pretty commendable. First of all he opens up his house at any time to any of those girls on that team. He cooks meals for the girls to eat before practice. He built his own batting cage which anyone on the team has access to whenever they want. They have multiple team get-togethers throughout the year like cookouts, hayrides, etc. I have also heard from several people that he isn't even getting paid to coach the softball team. He's doing it for free because he is semi-retired and isn't allowed by the state to get paid to coach. I understand that his own girls are on the team and that that probably plays a big role in him still coaching, but I've been a coach before and know that dealing with all the other junk that can accompany coaching (especially when 2 of your own kids are involved) would not be worth doing it for free.

continued from the post above........

Did any of you stop and consider why these two girls are so good? Do you honestly believe that, through some conspiracy, a baised scorekeeper made their statistics better? Come on. It's obviously pretty simple, the guy has spent countless hours instructing those girls, working with them, taking them to camps, taking them to practices in the city, traveling all over the United States to make sure that they play the kind of competition that will help them to maximize their potential. I would venture to say those two girls have played twice the softball (or at least played much stronger competition) that most the other girls on that team have played. Again, this isn't taking anything away from the other girls, this is what you would expect when they've devoted the amount of time and effort that they have. And finally, I think it is really admirable of Stan to put the kind of time and money he has into his children. I'm sure he's coached several girls over the years that would love to have a father that would invest in them half of what he has in his own kids.

Shame on you for ripping two kids and a coach/father who have made the sacrifices and put in the blood, sweat, and tears to excel. They deserve this honor.

This town is such a Peyton Place! Full of haters and gossipers. You idiots should be ashamed of yourselves , but you would have to have some intelligence and a decent upbringing for that to happen.

Have you considered looking at some of the past talent that has received an All State award and compare their stats versus these two girls?

Not Stan's biggest fan, but I try to be fair. I have followed the program for years and there has been some great talent on that field that have gone on to play college ball. I believe a few of the girls are coaching now themselves.

To the Baldwin girls just chalk it up to stupidity and jealousy. Don't let haters ruin your accomplishments. People like that just want to drag you down to their level.

I agree that it could be favortism as far as the nominations go. However didn't the younger Baldwin hit 11 homeruns this year which shattered our school record by 3? And her batting average was excellent also. I don't care what grade you are in. If you are good that means nothing.

Amen Guilty Bystander! Sam had a great year swinging the bat and also was a heck of a third baseman. I'm not sure how many HR's she hit but I do know she did break the school record. And as far as Sarah she is a damn good pitcher. Who is going on to play division 1 softball. Yes there are a couple other girls on the team who you could make a case for. But I feel they were not near as consistent all year compared to the 2 Baldwin girls. They not only did it in the field but at the plate as well. Congrats again to these 2 girls and also the Lady Hornets for a great year!!

Looks like the Turbyfil girl got a scholarship. Hmmm now who has egg on their face. Baldwin looks like a fool now! Well actually he always has. Let me put a question out there..Did the Baldwin girl get the scholarship on her own, or did daddy get her there?

Annie got a scholarship which is great!! Sarah is also going on to play division 1 softball at Evansville University in Indiana. As far as her dad helping her with her scholarship, I don't know. But I can tell you recruiting in softball is done primarily during summer traveling softball. So I think Stan helped, but I also think her summer coaches (which is not Stan), helped as much as anything. She deserves her scholarship and so does Annie. That makes 2 senior girls going to play college ball. And I heard the Stottlemeyer girl is probably going to go play somewhere too. There were some scouts checking her out in Sprigfield. Like I said a great year for the Lady Hornets!

So do any of you idiots play softball? No? Didn't think so. Before you run your mouth about out coach and his girls maybe you should know what you're talking about. Sarah and Sam deserve the award they got. Did you watch them play? Sam broke records her freshman year and Sarah is an amazing pitcher, best we've ever seen. There were other girls that got awards. As for coach Baldwin, unless you're there watching him coach at practice you have no clue. He's a great coach, he's apparently doing something right since we got second in state. He treats all of us girls like we are his own. He isn't harder on his girls, not during practice but I can bet you anything they practice harder than all of us do. Before you go running your mouth you need to know what's actually going on.
