A resident purchased a corner lot on 65. They decided to put a privacy fence around it. And everything about this fence is against city code. Too close to the road, too close to property lines, too close to a man hole, not the same height all the way around, etc., etc., etc. I'm sure you've all seen it. You CAN'T miss it!

Well apparently this person knows someone because they've gotten variances for every one of those violations of city code. And THAT was AFTER their neighbors protested. And STILL no city code applies to this lot.

Let some average Joe try that and see how fast they are slapped with a fine. tisk tisk tisk It must pay to know the right people in this town.

Is there a fence there that doesn't meet city code?

I have no idea...all I know is that he is building a privacy fence and that was the only one I could think of. I haven't been out that way for some time. That is kinda why I am asking...? Are you not willing to say?

Probably not willing to say because its probably a bunch of BS from someone that just wants to bitch and moan about something. Who cares about some stupid fence? Get a life!

Hey, I recognise the residential property your talking about. That is the Thompson addition. It belongs to the veterinarian that had an office across the street north of the funeral home on 65 N. His office property adjoins Herschel Sensenich's trailer sales.

The house to the north of the residence and one lot west was Reid Dupy's, kinda think maybe Lyndell Robertson lives in that one now.

John, I though you must live around Chillicothe, surely you would of known by the description given by "are you kidding me?"

As to the ordinance for fences, can't remember when it was passed, but I do believe it calls for no more than 6 foot tall and the pretty side goes out and the owner get to look at the ugly side of his own fence.

Hint: if you want a fence, be sure to get a platted survey to stand up in court, I'm of the opinion that a drop peg survey will not do in court. Missouri's fence laws get revised from time to time also in addition to Chilli municipal ordinance. Basically I would not want a fence right on the line under no circumstances.

If you wanna talk about 'deals' give me a good explanation of the set back ordinance for the Washington Street Food and Drink at Washington and Bryan--that is the true definition of a schenagun. I ain't forgot watching that, and long before it was an issue I went to work predicted exactly how that would play out.

Now there is prescedent in Chilli for exempting professional people from mowing their yards. That started in the 50s when the neighbors mowed Dr. Conrads yard when it got to be a hay field. That even made the CT. Sorry, about that Bob, but you know I'm dead right on that one, ole buddy. So they fudge a little for Washington Street Food and Drink on the set back. And if you better watch cars sitting in the street too long, affects fire truck access, but the those damned balls can sit in the street 24/7. I sure hope that big long fire truck don't have to slow down too much to make the corner.

And now the city is after Shelton's drag sign--craps a might, give me a break! They just pick and choose!

I have not been on the north side of town for a couple weeks. If this thread was started about Dr. Young's house I have to ask....... Is he building a new fence? He has had a fence around his yard for several years.

Oh I live around here, I just don't give a s**t about some stupid fence.

"are you kidding me" doesn't care about the fence, hes just trying to start something, so that he can start a topic and look like a big man like all the others in here that start topics to b***h and moan about someone.

He does live in that house now. He may benefit from the additional privacy, but the rest of us still have to look at it every time we drive in the subdivision.

I just don't understand how they city officials can drive by there and think that it is okay for one neighbors desire for privacy to outweigh the entire look of a neighborhood for everyone else living there.

If anyone else on that block decided to put a privacy fence in their FRONT yard the city would stop them. This is no different.

I mean really? Does it bother you THAT much? You sound as if you lose sleep at night, knowing that that fence is there and that hes getting away with it. It sounds to me like you have some kind of ax to grind with whoever that is. You STILL havn't said exactly who it is or where its at.
Why don't you go to the next city councel meeting and bring this subject up? I believe the meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of EVERY month. You'd get alot more done than comeing on here whining and crying about it like a little bitch!
Why don't you watch your mouth? Every time you say idiotic things like that it just confirms your diminished IQ. I live in that subdivision so exactly HOW would I avoid driving in it? Moron.

I'm glad you live there and that this fence bothers you. Just shows what a dumbass you are! I hope everyone in that subdivision builds fences like that, just to drive you up the wall!

What exactly about it bugs you and what about it is against the city code? It looks perfectly fine to me but then again I don't live in Chilli and don't know the ordinaces either. I know that he already had a fence there and he is extending it, which I don't blame him so he will have a bigger back yard. I am not sure how it is an eye sore...and it isn't in his front yard. I am just trying to understand where you are coming from.

As I already stated on the other post, if the fence was on the state right of way along the hiway, the DOT would have made the owner move the fence long ago, you might think it's a front yard to the owner it's his back yard. Looks like a good place for a pool.

I don't believe I said it was on the State right of way. It is too close to the road on "Thompson", and I KNOW it is not 20 feet from the manhole cover on the side street, as indicated by city code.

The point is that fence sticks out like a sore thumb on the FRONT side of Thompson's block next to everyone else's "front" yards. It would be no different if their next door neighbors in back put up a privacy fence in THEIR front yard to run parallel with it. THAT is what I meant about "front yard". It was a comparison to show where it is on that block.

The entire point to this topic was that the city makes allowances for some people at the expense of others. And as far as which codes? Distance from street, distance from man hole cover, distance from property lines, fence is "wrong side out" on at least one side, etc. etc. etc.

My question to you is if you live in the country and don't have to look at it why do YOU care WHERE I'm coming from? It is the residence on this block that have to look at it.
