Noticed that someone is pulling out insulation and ceiling tiles & loading the stuff up in a dumpster on the far north side. Who owns the property & what are their plans for it?

I believe the property is in a trust and one of the people who administrates the trust is guess who? Part-time acting City Attorney Robert Coward.

Don't know who owns it or what is going on with the old WalMart building. But I guess you know that the senior center, RSVP & joy toys moved into the old Aldi's building? Wasn't that building that you saw they were on was it?

Nah--It isn't the old Aldi's building. That's finished. The insulation/tiles are being hauled out through the back of Wal-mart's old lawn and garden area, next to where the automotive area was on the north side of the building. There is a large construction container set-up which was completely full this am with more stacked in the fenced in area.

It looks like a giant wet, moldy mess.

A Guy named Vanstavern owns the old Wal. MART building has for yrs. Might have spelled his last name wrong but he has wanted to sell it for yrs but always wanted to much that is why Wal Mart didn't buy it yrs ago.

Somehow it will be either the fault of our "city fathers", or Dr Smith, or both!

The property was donated to a local foundation (tax write-off by the former owner). The foundation may be cleaning it up--don't have a clue what their plans are for it.

Bring in the wrecking ball!

Maybe they can use the same one they are going to use on the Leeper Motel?

The foundation who received the building in exchange for the tax write-off cannot sell or dispose of it for a certain period of time (I believe 2 years).

This will likely be another costly albatross around the neck of the taxpayers.

Home of Sliced Bread Museum/City Convention Center perhaps??? LOL

I drove by the building this afternoon, and yes a hauling service was there taking away a semi-truckload of the moldy stuff.

Also, the City's economic developer was there checking on the removal...

Who was seen at the Old Walmart putting up the tape around the place? Mayor Haney & Terry Rumery were mentioned. Robert Cowherd is the attorney for the trust. Must be some money to be made if these three are involved.

I heard that Bill Mast bought that building along with Robert Cowherd as the city is still thinking of trying to get a new hospital and they are now rethinking the old sale barn but knew with the plans that had been shown about how large the hospital they proposed was going to be bought the old Wal Mart building when Bill Mast bought the Aldi's building. I know from someone who sits in on the zoning and planning board that the issue of the hospital is still an on going "talk"

The site bid submitted by the owner of the livestock market was $2.5 million for 15 acres (about $168,000 per acre). This was the most expensive ground submitted. Also, the 15 acres didn't meet the desired new site requirement for relocating the hospital (20 acres).

Doesn't make sense that you would expend money to remove the moldy insulation now, if your intention is to sell it, or donate it, for teardown purposes at a later date.

Most likely, someone intends to "fix-it-up" for some other purpose. Good luck...it will be an expensive undertaking.

Is anyone surprised there is still talk of building a new hospital? The powers that be don't like to get defeated. Terry Rumery has been seen at the site for several months. Don't you just love this town?

If anyone thought the hospital issue was dead, they were fooling themselves.

They will keep pushing for it until they get it.

Thats right because we all know that any problems in this town are the fault of either Dr. Smith or our "city fathers"!

Just ask Don Simkins and he'll explain it all to you! LOL
